1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpCJuBC7DLk Its really just my bands music video, but i do play in it too. The bass is mixed a little low for my tastes, so it isn't as prominent as it should be. Gear was a Squier Jazz Deluxe V, Mids on full, bass and treble flat, Ernie Ball Slinkies, fingerstyle. Through a either an RME Fireface or Focusrite OctoPre (Not sure which) and IK Multimedia Ampeg SVX. Liam
2. I tend to take 2 for a tonal variaton (5 string Jazz and a 4 string P/J is the usual) so i always have a backup technically, as although my main bass is a 5, i can easily do a 2 hour set with my main band on a 4. I have had experiences where i have needed 2 in the past, string breakages, batteries dying, jack sockets breaking etc.... Liam
3. The Live in Kansas acoustic section of Shinedown's "Somewhere In The Stratosphere" DVD. Quite possibly the best live performance ever caught on film (IMO) and they managed to take one of, if not THE biggest Foo Fighters Hit "Times Like These" and play it better than the Foo Fighters ever could (Again, IMO, and i love the Foos) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faX0V-FVcyE&feature=related 3 of what i think are the best male vocalists in rock nowadays, all in one band. Liam
4.
Pardon my ignorance, but can anyone recommend an Octave which offers both clean octave up and down? Does one exist? I am that clueless! (Not necessarily at the same time but that would be a bonus!)
First one that springs to mind is in the Line 6 M5/M9/M13 but i'm sure there's more around. Liam
5. Thanks for that Mike, thats the kind of thing i was hoping to hear, and Fonzoooroo i'll take that into consideration, thanks. Liam
6. Welcome to the forums Jim. Sorry to hear about your unfortunate bass related circumstances, but just think, there could be something better just around the corner, you never know. Liam
7. Same as icastle here, my squier goes through about 2 a year when its being played most days. My Ibanez GSR200 used to go through 1 a year somehow, its now being converted to passive because the EQ in it did f*ck all. Once you start learning more you'll start to use the EQ to find your sound, thats what happened to me. Also, batteries in basses dying isnt an instant thing, you'll start to notice lack of output and maybe a bit of hissing, so you'll know it needs changing. Liam
8. I'm looking at a few multi guitar stands (The case type ones) and came across these 2 from Stagg. Anyone know of the quality/durability/etc.... of these, 'cause i could use a stand like this for my bedroom and on stage and obviously don't want a piece of crap that'll fall apart on me when i move it. The 2 stands in question: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/stagg-gdc-6-guitar-stand-case/6594 http://www.gak.co.uk/en/stagg-gdc-8-guitar-stand-case/6583 Both the same really, just one holds 2 more electrics, or 3 more acoustics than the other. Liam (Sorry for seeming very uhm... enthusiastic? I'm a little bored at work, although i am actually interested in these)
9. If the 2x10 is still here after christmas (And i get paid) i'll take it. Liam
10. I'll see if i can get to this, if i get back from college in time. The in house engineers at Academy seem to always do a top notch job when i'm there, so you aren't wrong about that. Hopefully see you there. Liam
11.
Poncing like a tit at a gig I fell flat on my face and broke the jack off in the socket. And split my pants. Borrowed a bass from the support for the next song; the roady had taken the pickguard off my bass, removed the broken bits of plug, bolted it all together and tuned it before the end of the song. My pants remained unmended. heh heh, I said 'jack off'
Okay, thats a pretty effecient roadie. Playing Stacy's Mom at the biggest gig we'd ever done, and my strap snapped mid song. I was stood holding my bass up (10lb) by the B string with my ring finger and plucking with the other 2. That was really entertaining. I got a new strap after that gig (Which is a monster of a strap btw, if there ever could be such a thing). Liam
12. 1994 Squier Affinity Jazz Bass (Given to me in 2007, this thing was older than me, sold the body, neck and pups to Monckyman on here) 2007 Ibanez GSR200 2007 Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass V (Bought in 2009, shop floor model, which broke) 2010 Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass V (Replaced the broken 2007 model, main gigging bass now) Bit of a measly total compared to some peoples, but not too bad anyway. Liam
13. Seymour Duncan Basslines, or any Wizards, is what i would choose personally. Which model of each depending on the sound i wanted obviously. Liam
14.
There is a wireless system where u can get the output from your bass and input from the pa for vocals i.e monitor output, was about £170 if i recall sounds like exactly what you are looking for
Wireless IEM System, many on offer ranging from about 200 quid to well over a grand, but you also need good earbuds which can be costly. I used to use Hearos Rock n Roll series earplugs, but now i use some mould your own customs which are a hell of a lot better. I don't sing, unless you count shouting a few things into a mic, so i don't really know how they are with vocals. Liam
15. Brian J. Robinson (A Wilhelm Scream): Showed me that you can play more than just root/5th in pop/punk/alternative (Take a look at The Horse) Johnny Christ (Avenged Sevenfold): Spawned my love of Stingrays, and he has amazing tone Chris Wolstenholme (Muse): An ABSOLUTE MONSTER. Need i say more.... Phenomenal player and tone, made me push myself with my playing. Kasim Sulton (Ex. Neverland Express/Meatloaf): I don't know, every time i saw him play i wanted to pick up my bass and play. Matt Green (A Little Bit Outlaw Lead Guitarist): When he asked me to replace him as bassist so he could take on lead, my playing progressed so much when i joined this band, as it took me totally out of my comfort zone in terms of genre, tunings, and just general band related things. Liam
16. Bought my first bass and amp from Gear4Music. Was delivered on time, without any problems whatsoever, and their pricing is good. I would definately buy from them again. Liam
17.
This is Michelle. Fender Am Std, w/ added SD Quarter Pounders & Badass III bridge (Sorry if the pic is too big, I couldnt resize it!)
Pretty much my dream precision right there. Just fit it with a Hipshot D-tuner and it'l be spot on. Liam
18.
You learn and develop by doing and I've always found that being in a band is a great way to learn and develop.
Just to add to my previous post, i have to agree with this BigRedX, i joined a band after about a month (Yes, we were sh*te) of playing. I joined the band i'm in now after a year, and progressed pretty quickly as soon as i did. Liam
19. I do remember feeling that i'm a bit crap and will never improve to the level that i wanted. Now, 4 years later, i have reached and surpassed the level i wanted to be at. It doesn't show in my main band (As thats more of a root/5th/octave kinda thing) but in my newly formed band it will do. I'm now playing stuff i couldn't even dream of when i started. Liam
20. No idea on the price but, I WANT!!!!!!!!! Liam
21. Dougie Poynter of McFly. I haven't watched I'm A Celeb (It is crap) but i am a fan of McFly. He's a decent player, he does what he needs to, and i want his basses. Metalflake Musicman Sterling 4's with Matching fret LED's... Yes please.... Liam Not to mention the frontman (Danny) is a Local lad from Bolton, which makes them a little bit better in my eyes.
22. I would go for a Squier or an Ibanez personally. Best budget basses going in my opinion. Liam
23. Heard A LOT about you guys in the past, and i honestly have to say that i love your name, one of the best tribute band names around tbh. Simple yet entertaining and a good description. Liam
24. Aerodyne or a P Deluxe sounds like just the treat to me. P/J Pickups. Liam
25. I use EB Slinkies on my 5 string, and i got a set of Picato flats for a 4 string off Dave.C which i absolutely love. Liam
