Loop Pedal

i use my ehx memory man (with hazrinkydoodledoo) on bass and i've not noticed any bass cut.
  2. you actually know how a compressor works... and have a favourite attack time.
  3.
Oh so true! when at rehearsal you get shocked looks at suggesting maybe, perhaps, in just one song at some point as a special favour, we all play in time together.
heheh. plus the one. if i may adapt the words of verbal kint... "the greatest trick the bass player ever pulled was convincing the band he didn't wasn't running the show"
  4. the turbo tuner certainly seems to track quickly i like the idea of a tuner shoot out...maybe something any BCers with different types of tuners could try (i've only got a boss tu-2 and a behringer clone, so no real contest there)
  5. and what does he mean by '...pressed into service, perhaps most famously, by Rick Danko of The Band" pressed into service ? it's a bass isn't it ? unless danko also used his as a washing-line prop or something as well.
  6.
I was once told that i stand like a bassist. Still not sure what he meant by that.
there's a joke in there about sticking to the roots
  7.
When someone finally calls you a musician. Garry
liiike it
  8. afaik metal shielding offers almost no protection against magnetic fields of the frequency that will be produced by a bass cab, unless you're using a special material like permalloy... just a bit of physics for a saturday morning
  9. what does £80 more in tune than the pitchblack sound like ?
  10.
...but probably the reality of buying an inexpensive instrument made in the far-east these days.
and not far from buying anything made inexpensively in the far-east as well i'd imagine.
  11.
I'd say that decent hardware is important but it is a law of diminishing returns.
exactly the phrase that sprung to my mind too.
  12.
Carol for me, but that's only with a gun to my head! We're comparing a very good apple with a very good orange here. It's my opinion, and worth exactly what you paid for it.
plus the one. but i go for carol kaye. better dress sense and she played on pet sounds.
  13.
Here's a good example. Listen to the tracks SDC1 and SDC2 here: http://www.myspace.com/circledemos. Each of them is a high end small diaphragm condensers recording exactly the same performance. Both pointing over the players shoulder directly across the picking hand toward the thigh. Both sound very different. As it happens both work pretty well in this clip but imagine it was a voice being captured. One might work very well. Another might not. Make sense? Sorry, not intending to labour the point. Just trying to open people's eyes/ears to a whole new way of thinking about recording.
you know an awful lot more about this than me.
  14.
Horses for courses. Depends entirely on how the singer sounds and what the song needs. Sometimes one mic is better, sometimes another.
that's why i'm suggesting trying to get hold of a condensor mic, so the choice is there.
  15. sure you can't get your hands on a condensor mic for the vocals ? each to their own of course, but i've always got much better results using a condensor than a dynamic mic for voice.
  16.
It's a Baritone guitar through and through.
ahem...it's a bass... actually, forget it...i've been down this road too many times
  17. i recorded a tune a while back using just my fender vi, if anyone's interested what one (or several) sounds like
  18.
Actually reminds me of early Fuzzbox (the good stuff, Rules and Regulations etc) Bostin Steve Austin was a fantastic album - those were the days, when Indie was just that, and you could make a video on super8 for a tenner and get it on national tv on the Chart Show...... I quite like this
plus the one (spesh on the fuzzbox front !)
  19.
I think we are all really saying the same thing in our own way and not quite meeting in the middle. I respect all your feelings on the matter. Great inventive player, just doesn't float your boat and that's OK.
nicely put
  20.
I'm not going to listen to music I don't like because the bass player's good.
this is what it comes down to for me really - sure i can say 'yes, that's very skillful bassplaying', but it's the whole package for me - if the music doesn't engage me then that's about it. as an analogy - i find representational painting leaves me cold. i can appreciate the skill of the artist, but i certainly won't go to a gallery to look at an exhibition of it, whereas i'd be in like flynn if it were, say kandinsky.
  21.
I have real trouble with' bassplayers bassplayers', so to speak. The notion of the bass as a truly solo instrument doesn't work for me. Although some players have to really push the envelope so new techniques etc are discovered but apart from that. Mebbe I'm just an old fashioned bump, bump, debump, bump bump guy BB
plus the one. it leaves me cold too. it's technically very good, but just does nothing for me. each to their own of course.
  22.
Ah, but they did a few years back, for one year only.
they were reissued in the mid-90's too, which is when mine was made. they're an unusual instrument, but an awful lot of fun.
