1. i wonder why it isn't handled another way - in noisy industrial environment, workers have to wear ear defenders. why don't the venues issue their staff with hearing protection, like the in-ear buds a lot of us wear anyway. just a random thought.
2. there's something about a bloke playing a tea chest bass with a ramones t-shirt on. genius.
3.
Is it just me that thinks that this is actually a really good price?
nope - sounds like a good'un to me too. shame it doesn't include a sherpa or two !
4. i've only ever used one when recording...and then i used one of my socks. unwashed, mind...for an extra bit of 'mojo'
5. why do i get the feeling his sister's going to ask 'what happened to my bass' when she gets back from hols ?
6. thought i'd stick this on the basschat merry-go-round, as we did with guy pratt's book. prolly best described as a 'warts and all' tale of the ex-PiL bassist's upbringing, life during the punk years and after, it's very much his outlook on life as much as an account of what happened. PM me with your address and i'll bung it into the post for you - and if you fancy putting some funds into the basschat coffers, all the better. when you're done with it...pass it on.
7.
I've had crap both, can't say there is any correlation between gender and sound engineer goodness.
plus the one.
8.
That may possibly be true, but its still loud. I've run it through the Peavey 4x10 with my band and its cut through quite well. It all depends on the size of the venue, how you set the eq up etc. I've played decent sized pubs with it and its been fine.
plus the one to this - the peavey used to belong to me, and it certainly cuts through well. it was my only cab for years and i never had an problems being heard (using it with the trace elliot 150)
9. hmmm five controls, only one easily-accessible. a triumph of design over convenience methinks ?
10. the first band i ever saw were a funk band called zoot and the roots...at the astoria in leeds i think - about 1986 ?
11. i'd always assumed it was the hofner, but i'm ready to be corrected.
12. i'm sure jah wobble would agree !
13. i think my first gig was at school, so i was maybe 16 ? i think it was someone's birthday party. i have no recollection how it went !!!
14.
I really like the Phil Spector album with Christmas (Baby Please COme Home). We did Rocking around the Xmas Tree last year which was good fun. It's just a bit of fun after all
plus the one on phil spector.
15. aaah, soz mano...i see deffo make a good job of it - don't rely on a jury-rigged connection. sod's law says it'll fail mid-gig
16. i read the title at "lengthening your wife" look, i know she's only 5 foot tall, but i like her just the way she is ! ahem i'd not splice new cable - just get a new one. there's a lot of vibration knocking around with a bass cab...splicing might be cheaper, but the last thing you want is your amp head shorting across its output mid-gig.
17. my undergraduate degree was astronomy and astrophysics in the 3 years i was studying we learned many things - stellar atmospheres, celestial dynamics, magnetohydrodynamics... but the one thing that was drummed into us again and again was never...never buy a gibbo without a telescope.

Chorus Pedal

my fave chorus is the old boss CE-2B - there's a few knocking round on ebay at the moment. solid as a rock and doesn't suck the low end too much unless you use extreme settings.
19. they're lovely heads, so if you could get an amp tech to look at it, it may be worth it. it's had an overhaul recently...maybe some of the work done wasn't up to spec ? but stingrayfan has a point...it's about diminishing returns.
20. "Reason for sale: play Fodera Basses and not used as outlined" /scratches head/ is this ad in for next year's turner prize ?

2 cabs, 1 amp?

this isn't about some kind of weird amp-scat video then ?
22.
Oh, I just realised....I had a Marshall Bluesbreaker combo that not only caught fire, but then set fire to the curtains in the pub we were playing in. Weird thing was, whilst it was on fire, there was still sound coming out of it!
tell me you were played a burst of 'smoke on the water' whilst it was burning ! please !!
23. i had a sh**y marlin bass combo fall over and go bye bye at a gig, years ago. halfway through a song the bass amp crackled, a small burst of smoke appeared and the sound when very distorted. we played on, but we played heavier to fit in with the fuzzy bass sound.
24. i've got a mm w/hazarai and i love it. apart from the looping, the delays and echoes themselves are great. what i liked when using it for the bass is that your can tweak the tone of the delayed signal, so you can lose a little bass on the repeats so that your original note still sings through. ymmv on that of course
25. aaargh ! if i hadn't just agreed to buy project c's warwick i'd have been all over this like a rash. /shakes fist at sky/
