1.
Interesting that the J version has a P width nut. Gaskit attack!
Same neck maybe. Shame - that would put me off.
2. Very nice. Do they only make Aerodynes with P pickups ? I don't recall coming across one with just jazz pickups.
3.
Pretty much exactly as the OP describes it! Youtube is not usually my first port of call, but if I am struggling to pick out a part then I often find it helpful. There are some bloody awful videos out there mind...
Agreed - they're useful if you're stuck, but I feel that it's best to do it by ear as it improves your.....'ear' !
4. It's Barbie's bass !
5. I'd certainly not want to play anything to impress anyone in the shop but 'Celebrate' by The Fields of the Nephilim (it's a picky chordal bassline) and 'Calm Down, Come Down' by Throwing Muses would be two as I know what they sound and feel like on my own basses, and then maybe something I'd learned recently as it would be fresh in my mind. Other than that, some scales and chromatic runs to get a feel for how the bass plays Mind you, I'd be in there on a wet Tuesday afternoon to minimise the number of spectators !
6. Ooooh, nice clutch of basses there (two Marks Hoppus ?) The Mark Hoppus model has a Jazz neck, is that right ?
7.
AFAIK they've only made one class D amp, the VT Bass 1000, which nobody bought because they cost around a grand. Now that manufacture has gone to the far east, all bets are off!
Let's just hope they seal that magic smoke in nice and tight !
8. I presume this is some kind of digital power amp affair....how have Tech 21 been on this type of design ? Better than Ampeg ? I'm not knocking, just curious.
9. This any help ? http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/62347-thunderbird-pro-wiring-diagram/
10. Wonder if I'd been wrong all these years about flashbacks being a myth....
11. You see quite a few of them on Ebay don't you ? I've often wondered about getting one just for the fun of building, just like your buddy.
12.
Just had one arrive and had a quick play (before swiftly selling it on!). At low gain levels it's a great DI preamp box (if you get an XLR adapter) if you play with distortion and need a cab sim on your DI. At medium gain it sounds horrible to me and the blend really does sound like two separate signals. At high gain though, it's a fantastic fuzz! The fact that the treble control sounds like a resonant lowpass filter only adds to the synthyness (is that a word?). It can sound similar to the Diabolik at low squish settings in fact. So this makes two mislabelled bass fuzz pedals now released by Boss! I'd keep this for fuzz if I didn't have a TAFM and Diabolik. I am keeping the ODB-3, which at high gain is a pretty extreme and unique pedal. People will be upgrading from the ODB-3 to the BB1-X in their droves though, and for most people's purposes it's clearly the better of the two. But if you are looking for an overdrive/amp sim/DI, I'd take Tech 21 or Darkglass's offerings over this any day.
Thanks for the round-up db - good to know.
13.
The late Bernard Edwards, he of Chic fame.
Aaaah, right so Ted.
14.
Love my Stingray. Finally got the 'Nard tone nailed.
'Nard ?
15. What ? Jools Holland isn't on it any more ? That's an improvement at least..... Oh...really ? Sorry....though you said "Not including arse"
16.
I tend to find, the more professional the PA guys, the less hassle they are and get the job done quicker.
Well, you would hope so.
17. Mine's black and came with a black scratchplate the previous owner had bought....which is good as I'd have bought one myself anyway (see pic) I've tried the white one back on it but...naaaaah - It looks like an ice cream.
18. I'd be inclined to think in terms of what you and the rest of the band play, rather than the sound...like cheddatom says, can the drummer hep fill out the sound ?
19. Jack's Raging Bile Duct ?
20. Very nicely done. I'd say it's crying out for a bit of variation - not anything like a solo (gawd forbid!), but if the bass had a bit more variation to it, maybe getting more 'excited' when it came up to the changes it would carry the listening along with it.
21. Naaah, you need a proper cool haircut, some bongos and a pair of funky red socks https://www.youtube....h?v=ZiRuj2_czzw
22.
Nowadays it's a club where you'll hear the best bass definition through a PA. Since Funktion-One became industry standard, volume in watts is down and clarity had gone up - but I guess these are smaller spaces.
I had to look up what 'Fuktion-One' was !
23.
Not sure I'd want him as my band leader either from what I've read
Me neither - not sure I've want to be that close to that much ego !
24.
I think the whole idea is that picking sounds different to finger-style. Why would you want both techniques to sound the same?
If you use both live, then there's a difference in volume - I've found a bit of judicious EQ and volume tweaking helps even out the timbres without masking their differences.
25. That's different to mine - mine had grooves/slots cut so that the strings splayed out and sat between the pole pieces. don't like this arrangement. I much prefer a straight line from the end of the string all the way up to the nut. I actually replaced my bridge for a Badass with no grooves at all.
