1.
It had 40-80 gauge strings on it. Couldn't cope with that, so I picked up some Fender 45-100s while I was out (never tried the fender strings, thought I would give them a try, and they were cheapest!). Obviously that has sent the neck in an upward path and I found the joy of the truss rod adjustment on these basses. They still do that in this day and age? Bit of a pain anyway.
40-80 ? Blimey, and I thought I liked light strings - the havier strings should suit it more I think. Can I ask - does your Badass bridge have grooves filed in it ?

3.
Live sound production has always been hit and miss, not just since the advent of electronic dance music.
Well aware of that, but I certainly don't remember as many 'soaked in sub' gigs when I was younger - but then the technology perhaps wasn't so readily available to extend the bottom end to (what I would consider) unnecessary levels.
4. JTUK and Spacey may be onto something here - maybe it's the influence of dance music, which seems to be in a cock-waving competition about how low it can all go. Mega sub-bass may sound impressive on kick drums (if you like that kind if thing), but for a pitched instrument ? I dunno - I'm not a sound engineer, but as has been said on other threads, the treatment of the bottom end for live events does IMHO sound awful to what it used to. But then I'm getting to be an old gimmer, so it was all better in the past wasn't it ?
5.
Warwick Thumbs.
Indeed. My particular head-scratcher was the Lakland Decade Skyline I had. Sounded amazing, played beautifully, but it neck-dived. If the upper horn had been ~2" longer it would have been balanced. Why do that ? It really wouldn't have looked that different. Hey-ho.
6.
Bad ergonomics. There's no excuse for a bass that doesn't balance well and feel comfortable to play - we're not in the 1950s anymore!
Yep - neck dive is my bugbear. Why design a bass that doesn't balance well ?
7. A myriad uses !
8. Great pictures - some great guitar faces going on there.
9. I'm quite happy to take a signature bass for what it is - I'd never dream of buying a sig bass because of the name on it, but if the spec's right, then bring it on ! Oddly, I never really listened to any Rush until I was thinking of buying a Geddy Lee model, but did so to check out the bass sound people seemed to rave about so much. Ended up learning a few tunes just to stretch myself and found myself far less averse to the Canadian Progsters than I thought. Mrs. Pook's right tho - he does sing like a girl.
10. I bought a Geddy Lee based entirely on the the spec and the excellent neck profile - nowt to do with the Rush connection. Fantastic basses, I've had mine for a few months and it still impresses.
11. Where's our gig report ? Was the after-party that good ?
12.
Excellent in every way. Great playing and technique. The ghostliest of ghost notes.
Very much so Thumbs up from me and Mrs. Pook
13. Full-size LPs are still nice. My wife bought me a John Carpenter album for my birthday and it was much nicer to get a gatefold album than a CD.
14. I remember the good old days - when they were record shops....none of this new-fangled nonsense. We need a RS(NS)D
15. That's a real shame - if the idea is to get people into shops, browsing and enjoying the experience then it's gone a bit awry.
16.
Which to choose...its always tempting to get something that does more than you need
Tell me about it !
17. Cool demo - thanks.
18. I only really found the Steel Leather useful for adding clank to the bass sound, never really got on with it. You could use another compressor as a boost, but how about a preamp pedal before your existing Multicomp - depending on the level of boost added and the ratio your compressor is set to, it could slightly fatten and boost your signal. Of course, you could put if after as well ! Something like an MXR Micro Amp would do the trick.
19. Fantastic Look forward hearing the low-down tomorrow.
20. I'm impressed by the set of Fender 1750ML strings that came spare with my last bass purchase. I usually use Status, but I may consider moving camp based on the Fenders.
21. That's right - toward the neck it's Vol and Pan, the back two are Treble and Bass. Mine was a tobaccoburst (I'm looking for a picture of it at the moment)...my tastes changed, so I sold it on here I think. Nice basses - lovely balance.
22.
...they are not the same bass.
Indeed - look at the grain pattern on the front.
23. "We will rock you" by Queen. Derived from a rhythmn first bashed out by Ugh and Gurr of the Cough-Sniff tribe ~191,323 BCE
24. I had one for quite a while - it was my main bass for a few years. They sound....um....good...sorry, it's been a while. Look after the EQ tho - they're a nightmare to replace as they need special long-threaded pots to go through the body. I think the EQ is similar to one of the Urge basses...don't quote me on that tho. Wow.....talking about my cowpoke reminds me of those heady days on the Harmony Central Bass Forum....
