1.
A number of the 80s pop acts were terrific players - Duran, Culture Club, Nick Kershaw, Kajagoogoo to name but a few - but were/are scrutinised to the point of disbelieving they were actually any good because guys who make pop records can't play, right? Wrong.
Absolutely, I think some bands around that time got tarred with an unwarranted brush. It's a masterful, inventive piece of bass playing and discreet's right, it drive the tune like a rocket. I love it
 2.
I wonder how many raffles are run up and down the country without having a gaming licence? Quite a few i'd imagine.
It's the unregulated meat bingo that scares me.
 3.
Great, I will have a listen later, I'm just doing an essay . Thanks for listening, and for the feedback, I need to sit down and have a proper loud listen over the weekend, and make the odd adjustment to things, I don't hand-in until next Tuesday.
I had it whacked up pretty loud
 4. Had a chance to listen on the big sound system now. I like it, some of the long sustained sounds were very nice, interesting tones. (Such as around 0.59, 1.39, 1.57). A bit more variation in the field recordings would be good for me- I found the birdsong came back a bit too often for my tastes. But overall, cool - I like it. As I've critiqued, it seems only fair I offer one of my more abstract pieces up, hope you enjoy them. http://soundcloud.co...g/diving-bell-1
 5.
Is it just me or is it incredibly quiet?
Yes it is...ambient ?
 6.
Nothing, really. I should have explained- my B3 usually lives at home as a practice tool. I don't really want to have to carry it about, I'm trying to get down to as small a setup as possible. A battery powered Soul Food would be easy to just chuck in a gig bag - I don't use any other effects with the band.
Gotcha ! Well, I've got a B3 and a Bass Soul Food and I think if you like the blended Tube Screamer sound from the B3 then you'll deffo like the BSF.
 7. May I ask what you find lacking from the sounds on the B3 ?
 8. It's good, but it's not a Bond theme... ...and neither is the one they used.
 9. I've used an EQ pedal to even out the levels and tones between plectrum and fingerstyle, generally a bit of gain and some bottom end on the plectrum setting helps.
 10. I think you'd need a licence http://www.gamblingc...-a-licence.aspx EDIT: Several by the looks of it.
 11.
http://www.ptable.com/ (and that is a pretty cool website)
I love the orbitals !
"An astrological object (a star) has been named Lemmy to meet the IUPAC naming recommendations" Yeah, that's going to impress the scientists. Embarrassing.
I know. AND it sounds like someone fallen for a 'Name a Star' scam.
 12.
Right then ,winner time :-) I asked my wife to pick any number from 1 to 42 (excluding my posts, but still counted in 1-42) in order of yes posts..............drum roll.....NUMBER 13 has been chosen :-) Congratulations P-zarn If you would like to pm me your details I'll get the trooper posted to you. Thanks for taking part everyone :-)
Congratulations to P-zarn and major karma to you, Sir. Chapeau !
 13. That's a new style of ambulance chasing !
 14. Not gonna happen - you might find one of the elements ends up named after a scientist, but Lemmy ? Naaaah. Bit of fun tho.
 15. Ooooooh, niiiiice. May I as what the nut width is ?
 16.
I'm too old to care. It's very liberating.
You know....I meant to put a happy face !
 17. I'm too old to know who the young turks are there days
 18.
Thank you for getting back to me, as you have interest from other drummers I will let you pick from the two you are having sessions with. I have work and I don't really need any more.
And that's actually the drummer you want....the one that's busy !
 19.
I don't think it sounds like JE at all, in tone or style.
Me neither, but there you go.
 20. Aside from the slight difference in the wires coming out of the pickups, the wiring would be identical to that of a P-bass
 21. Not for me - it's an object, so doesn't need a name aside from what it is (a black jazz bass, etc) (or a gender, which I find very strange)
 22.
It's whether you can do that with the aim of gigging but without a specific audience in mind.
IME it's been a matter of finding out which places will put bands on and then getting in contact with the venues or other bands to put on a show together. Is that a 'specific audience' ?
 23.
The objective is to gig with good music to an audience.
Well, my objective in getting together with other musicians is to try and make some interesting music. That's my reason, if anyone has others, that's great too !
 24.
For me, making music is most certainly not about making money. It's about playing stuff that I like and had a hand in inventing. If I get paid as well that's a bonus - though most folks wouldn't fork out to hear my racket! Back in the early 90s we spent years both headlining places like the Marquee, supporting Carter and Gaye Bykers (usually for pay of around £50 between us - the van and roadie cost that!) to audiences of 2000, or playing gigs where virtually no-one turned up. All because we loved it. Shame we didn't make it, but we had a great time - here's a review (contains swearing!) from the Melody Maker: http://www.pushstuff...roco110591.html
Sounds like you're a man after my own heart - great review
 25. Almost every band I've been in has been started purely to try and make interesting music. Adverts in shops or online, getting together in practice rooms, people bringing ideas, working them out, honing the songs, maybe the odd person coming and going. Play a few gigs, write more songs, see what happens. Enjoy the process. Once or twice that process has led to a modicum of (relative) success, and almost everyone had day jobs. Little thought for the market or the audience....just enjoying making music. Seems like a damn good way of spending your time if you ask me.
