I use both active and passive basses for both recording and live work. It all depends what the song needs really and how you want the bass to sound within the song. I'm with Alun in that I never practice through an amp in the house and prefer to move my playing position to get what I want out of the bass be it with fingers or pick. As a result I find there's not much of a difference between my active and passive sounds. I usually run my active flat or with just a touch of bass boost. I never touch the treble pot, preferring to add a minute touch of low mids at my amp. In general I try to keep everything as close to flat as possible between my guitars and amp as I mostly use my pedals to shape my sound and very rarely play with a totally clean signal.

Awesome sound!

My Monte Allums kit arrived this morning. I'm modding a CS-3 for my guitarist at some point this week. I will be trying it out on bass as well to see what it's like post mod!

Yawn It works perfectly for me this way as I said. I'm happy. Don't spoil it now.

Obv this is the only way I can get my fx in an order which is right for me bro. There's no rulebook! If it works, it works.
-
Hehe, I know you don't. Cheers though bro. I'm just a gain junky I guess. The Cat in the feedback loop is awesome though!

Here's my board then. It's a bit tight but managed to get everything on there except my tuner, I don't mind that though. Multicomp > Cream pie > LTD Silver > Bluebeard > UF-01 > VBF2 with a 18v Cat in the loop. I haven't had a chance to give it a good kicking yet in a band setting, so I'm looking forward to that. I'll probably end up moving it about a bit at some point. EDIT : Bit of a large pic that, have to learn how to resize ;-) On a sidenote - does anyone know if the standard diago supply is cool with the multicomp? I guess there's no reason why it shouldn't be.

Cool. I'll hopefully get some shots of my (soon to be finished) board up here next week. Just waiting on a last pedal and a couple of patch leads which are in the post and I'll take some shots. I've managed to squeeze 7 pedals onto my diago, took a bit of arrangement/headscratching but it looks the biz. All kitted out in obbm's finest. I will at some point order the voltage doubler from diago so I can operate my cool cat from the same supply. Really really pleased with the diago overall though (thanks JJ!!). Cracking power supply and a very durable board to keep my pedals/settings happy. Packing away/setting up at rehersal is so much easier now as well!!!!

A funny thing happened on the way to the gig..
Basszilla replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I've managed to do the same if that makes you feel any better bro. Only outside our rehersal unit with my old band. I had to call out the AA as well, but I didn't have a mobile on me so had to walk about a mile to the nearest pay phone!! Played with Anthrax up in Manchester a few years back, our opening song and I wasn't even plugged in! Probably the worst gig of my entire life! Still, gotta laugh eh! -
You need at least some of those mids. If you prefer a scooped sound then back off the lows and highs by around 50/60% and introduce some mids into that setting, there should be less noise as well. Use your bass to make small EQ adjustments as you go along.

I'm going to be joining this thread soon with my new board set up. Have to get some shots done later on.

Top guy - recommended seller. Bought a pedal a few days ago from Pete which arrived today. Superb wrapping and speedy delivery.

My cabs are rear ported and I've never noticed any major sound differences as such compared to my old front ported cabs. Wasn't that point discussed on BW, where the conclusion was that there'd be no change in sound regardless of where the ports are? What is the official word on this? Sorry to hamper your point Dave, but this got me wondering again Alex/Bill?........

That warwick is looking badass Gaf.

Absolutely stunning. My main bass is practically identical except for the flame top I have. To me spector basses are the pinnacle of sound, aesthetics, ergonomics, playability and build quality. All boxes ticked everytime! I seriously have a hard time switching to other basses as I'm so used to the curved cutaway body. Beautiful basses! Slap tone is to die for. And we all know how well these basses cover hard rock, metal and pop. Well just about any style or genre really.

Have you got the tip on the adaptor correctly? (assuming it's of the multi tip variety) The EBS probably requires a 9v regulated negative tipped adaptor. I had a similar problem with one of my pedals - I was using a unregulated 9v and there was a lot of whooshing and background noise. Switched to regulated neg tip and it worked flawlessly.

http://www.furniture123.co.uk/layouts/item..._Drinks_Cabinet What about something like that? It's 4 ohm, 1000 watt. Plus you can look classy with a glass of pinor noir onstage, saves going to the bar as well. Sorry man, couldn't help it.

I'm liking that bro. Fair play. The guitar tone sounds quite menacing!

This last week I've been totally bitten by warwick gas, and this thread certainly isn't helping matters

Ant I quite like Trancing, it sounds cool. Good job on the vox on that track. Bass could be a bit louder in the mix as could the kick drum, on the whole though, sounds really good. The start of the guitar solo reminds me of something off the prophets second album. EDIT : I can see the WAS comparisons, the vox kinda remind me of Weezer in a strange way, from the song Buddy Holly.

I blew one of my amps up a while ago in practice. I had to borrow a mates Hartke 3500 to carry on with the rehersal. I thought it sounded excellent at the time, and as such I'd have no qualms using one again. If I remember it sounded quite gritty with a very quick response. Vasquez - I quite like that flesh and blood tune.

Both, if possible. Gives you more bass girth out front
