I would suggest that they are 2 for each earpiece. You'd need to check with a meter to find out which is which. Then you'd have to check which is hot and which is cold so the two earpieces are in phase - probably a matter of trial and error. When you've worked that out you can solder on a new plug. The other way is to send them to me and I'll see what I can do.

Having tried many different strings over the years I am currently using Sadowsky Blue Labels. They have great tone and medium tension. However in that everlasting search for the ultimate tone I'm always interested to try something new. Maybe NYXL strings will take me to that tone nirvana. I will only know if I try them.

Lack of US made guitars in the UK in the 50s and 60s

I love Mo Foster's book. I got him to autograph my copy at a Bass day at ACM some years ago. Lots of the things the writes about happened to me. Back in 1964 it really was what you could afford. I was using a Framus short-scale Star bass through a Linear 30 into a home-made 4 x12 using Bakers Group 25 speakers from a shop in Croydon. The lead guitarist however was using a Vox ACV30 through a Vox T60 (15 +12) cab which his parents had bought for him. The PA was Grampian valve amp bought at a Jumble sale through two home-made 4 x6 columns using ex-TV speakers bought from Exchange & Mart. It sounded awful but no-one cared because it was new, raw and live. -

Burns and Watkins were popular in the early 60s. I wanted a Precision as soon as I saw the Sunburst one on the cover photo of the Shadows first album. Just about the only tuition book for bass around this time was this, published in about 1960. It also includes a picture of the Shadows with Jet's Sunburst P and several other bands with various basses. -

It was similar in 1963 when as a schoolboy I was looking to buy my first bass. I had to get my mother to lend me £45 to buy a Framus and pay her back slowly. I didn't dare ask for any more as a Fender Precision was about double that and a Jazz was even more. When I started work the following year my salary was a whole £520 a year. -

I was a bass player in the late 60s, now I'm a bass player in his early 70s. I'll get my coat.😁 Very interesting read. All my influences were pre 1966 and by the late 60s I'd already retired from playing and sold all my gear. One of the biggest mistakes of my life.

Yes Nik, a bass and some other bits.

Strengths :- Good quality gear, reliable transport, always turn up in good time Rock steady timing, professional attitude and behaviour Don't smoke or drink, well prepared, will put the time in to learn new material. Weaknesses :- A bit Mutt and Jeff, don't slap, due to old age and arthritic hands can no longer play very fast for long periods Not the slightest bit interested in football (believe me this has been a problem) Like to derig and get off home pdq Intolerant of other band members who use rehearsal time to learn new material rather than do some homework and come prepared

I will happily bring a pristine cable with a straight Neutrik silent jack however as we all know it may not work with some active basses.
-
I'll just leave these two pictures here.

Here's a photo of the headstock that I took in 2015. As far as I can tell nothing has changed since your original photos so one must assume that this is original and not refinished. I'll have a look later and see if I have the original case among my collection. It might have got swapped over at some point. -
