  1. You might find some info at this old thread.
  2. Eich make 3 different sized platforms that are cheaper than the P & D or you can make your own. I made my own using ideas from this. https://www.bassic.de/threads/bass-shaker-platte-selbst-gemacht.14849010/ Drivers and rubber mounts from Ebay. Wood from Homebase. You can use any spare bass amp to drive it. I bought a used Markbass Nano which is perfect and also acts as a spare for my main amp.
  3. Sorry about the hearing loss. I can sympathise. Have you thought about trying an Eich Bassboard to augment the IEMs. It certainly helps with the low end. Although your hearing has deteriorated your other senses should be intact and I find that being able to feel the notes up through the feet is extremely helpful.

Do you still have the Artec SE-PEQ?
  8. I have a Spector CTB Fretless, 30-inch scale, which I use for noodling at home. Not had the courage to take it out yet. It's very nice and easy to play.
  9. This is the twin of mine - adjacent serial numbers, same colour, almost identical spec, etc. Mine doesn't have any crown inlays either. Absolutely cracking instrument. The Doug Wimbush neck is particularly playable if you have small hands.
  10. Quilter Bass Block 800. complete with carry case and manual. Excellent condition. Very light, very loud.
  11. Whichever way you do the maths with any modern drivers it will be 5.33-ohms. Markbass have just rounded it up to 6-ohms so as not to confuse the uninitiated. There is no way you could rewire it to anything other than multiples of 2.66-ohms. You can safely use that with a valve amp on a 4-ohm setting without any problem
  12. What is the cab?
  13. If you really, really want to use the active speaker then all you need is a stand-alone pre-amp for the other bands to use with it.
  14. I've got one but haven't had a chance to give it a full workout yet. There are others here who have used them.
  15. What about a Bergantino NV115 - they come up on the used market from time to time. 15" + 6" drivers sealed cab 400-watt handling 8-ohm impedance
  16. Have a look for Eich or Tecamp Bassboard or Porter and Davies. They both do these. I took the DIY approach and bought the parts from Ebay/Amazon/Homebase for the platform and secondhand Markbass Nano to drive it. I also have a small mixer so I can mix my bass with a microphone in the kickdrum.
  17. Some years ago I heard a story that Strings and Things would swap necks and bodies to meet specific orders.
  18. I built my own bassboard.
  19. Those of us who were at the SE Bass Bash a couple of years ago heard all about this from Herbie himself. He demonstrated it with himself on upright, Dave Swift playing Herbie's 1960 Jazz. Support you local Bass Bash and learn something new.
  20. At the last two Jams I played Money For Nothing, Tush, Sweet Home Alabama, Hotel California, Crazy, Play That Funky Music, Born To be Wild, Shake Your Moneymaker, Sex On fire, Summer of 69, Fisherman's Blues so not all 12-bars. They were all the guitarists' choices of course. I like to make a note of what others play, especially the house band, and then go away and brush up on them. O.P. Go along, just listen to what's going on for a couple of times and then do your homework.
  21. Don't forget that if you are importing it into the UK you will have to pay duty on it plus VAT @ 20% on (cost + shipping + duty)
  22. Having been brought up on valves I have perpetually had a hankering for an all-valve head. Over the years I tried Marshall, Laney, Orange and Mesa. They were all OK up to a point but apart from the Mesa they were all far too bulky and heavy. Following WoT's recommendations this year I bought a Handbox WB100 and I love it. Fantastic tone and I can carry it in one hand, even though I'm a 70+ 5'6" midget. Things got even better when I acquired a Bergantino NV115 in a trade to partner it. What would it sound like with two of them? Not really worst but most mistaken purchase was probably the 2 x10" cab from BC's favourite supplier. Nothing technically wrong with it but it just didn't do it for me. It must be my defective hearing.
  23. Yes RS77LD 45 - 105
  24. For the material you are playing Michael I would suggest a set of Rotosounds. I have a set on my '73P and they sound and feel just right. If you want to test the tension then you are welcome to pop over. I remember Billy Sheehan saying at the BGS a couple of years ago that 90% of hit records were recorded with a Fender P and Rotosound strings.
  25. Phil bought some Bare Knuckle pickups. It was a smooth flawless transaction. Thanks Phil.
