.... Always wondered if vegetarian guitarists are aware of the meaty nature of some of their instruments. I use ebony or cocobolo usually. ..
I'm a veggy and make my own bone nuts without losing too much sleep over it. Incidentally I just did an ebony one, jointed into a fretless ebony fingerboard. I'm very happy with the results so far.
Beware of stinkyness when machine grinding bone.
It's like that horrid burning smell you sometimes get at the dentist when the are drilling. I use files and hand saws but it still stinks. Yuk.

Fecking bargain. Ok so you're not going to find an original neck-plate in a hurry but I cudda lived with it the way it was... well apart from the monogrammed bit on the Bongo (or perhaps SUB) bridge.

Yep do this ^. It's best to do as soon as possible to prevent the wood "remembering" the dent. And strange though it may seem it's actually helpful if the lacquer is broken in this situation.

Well I know it's not a bass, but it's on ebay

I wonder who the "luthier" was. The inlay work (both wood and p/g) is pretty ropey if you ask me. How is the valve powered? Does it get hot? -
A big thankyou on this. I'll have a look at what I've got on and give you a shout.
You're welcome.
Who the hell "passes through" Aberdeen??
You think it inconceivable that someone from Keith might visit Aberdeen?

If you're passing through Aberdeen sometime, pop in past and I'll have a look at it for you.

Nice... but I hope they don't live next to the radiator all the time or it will be warp factor 5.

Fantastic pics. It seems like only yesterday now.

Like it. Shame about the 2 saddle bridge.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!! I don't know about you guys but I'd put this one down as the best one yet (bar the 1st one which was a very different affair) despite the weather keeping the numbers down a little. Thanks to Alan and everyone who participated. As usual a fantasticly diverse selection of basses to get your hands on - there also seemed like what might have been a record amount of ACGs "coming home" this time too. Because I'm weird, I was particularly taken by a home made (of German origin), fun take on a Fender-Musicman-Rickenbacker hybrid called (I think) the Fendmanbacker which I had a sneaky shot of upstairs and which we then got to hear expertly played at the bassokey. The bassokey was a blast. It was refreshing to have bass players as the focus of a performance for a change and to see how differently we all took to the stage with our respective weapons of choice. There was no fancy-schmancy pretentiousness just ordinary bassists getting their groove on.... apart from Dave of course who is so legendary he managed to play scary basslines with his fingers while simultaneously playing backing keyboards with his toes. linky I'm glad I got a chance at a second tune after the band played an alternative rendition of my 1st choice, leaving me guessing where all the changes were and a little mystified at the end where the significant middle dynamic had dissapeared to. On the other hand I got to do some interesting bass-nastics in that one when my strap came off - I'll have to check the vids but I don't think I dropped a note. Shaun and the boys were fantastic this year - tight, funny and the mix was spot on too. And it looks like perhaps an off-shoot event with the band "feat. guest bassists" might be on the cards at some point. I hope this idea comes to fruition. Another highlight for me were the EAD cabs. I hope one day to maybe get a hold of a pair of Foundation 112's. I hadn't seen the new coating in the flesh and I was very impressed. They were every bit as awesome as I'd expected they'd be.... ... as was everybody who attended. The whole thing was so awesome in fact that I never thought to take any pics or vids this time so bring 'em on folks. Hey guess what was on the telly when I got home last night? edit : just found the first bassokey track on yt. Thank to Peterjam.
whats the general time for everyone arriving? Im only about an hour away so was maybe gonna be there for about 2 or 3.
Yep we should be arriving about that time too I think Steve. Just finished running over my bass-okey tunes a few times... hmm I think I probably should have done it well before tonight. Oh and don't think I didn't see what you said about me and Matt above. Don't worry though you've only got to sleep with one eye open if you're a sheepy.
Just strap Matt to the roof.... See you in the bar Rich
I thought mats went on the floor. Oh aye I'll be there... and I'm owe you a couple of jars too.
Right, that's me packed and ready for the road trip tomorrow: See you the morn!
How the shitting hell is all that getting into my car along with my gear. Ah well at least it will all be good ballast if the bad weather sets in.

Steve runs a tight ship. I bought some Elixirs off him in the afternoon and they dropped through my letter box the very next morning. It literally doesn't get any better than that. Cheers mate. Rich.

Scratch in brand new Warwick Rockbass

Good stuff. -
Not the only brass neck on ebay.
-
Don't tighten your tr, loosen it off. If that doesn't work try some very thin packing under your nut.. some thin wood veneer maybe.
-
The Gotoh 201 is a decent upgrade but if you want real upgrade benefits (ie more adjustability) then go for Schaller bridges like the 2000 or the 3D.
... There is not much difference between them, but there is a difference: the SUB seems a bit "meatier". ...
This is why I have a SUB pup I my 'ray. -
