1. This might be interesting . (sorry can't post tidy link from my fone.... hope it works) www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150791278170?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
2. Fixed a farting cab for a mate the other week. He had a gig coming up and needed it sorted quick. When I got there (all the way across on the other side of the city) it sounded terrible and he was very upset about the imposing expense and impending gig ramifications. Took 2 minutes to fix... ... a section of wire from his tweeter had come to rest on the back of one of his main driver cones. I tie-wrapped it out of the way.
3. Man what a fecking wind-up merchant! You confirmed to me by email that we had a deal (your words not mine) and I went and removed and serviced my Schack preamp from my bass and painstakingly labelled every wire for you as you requested. You then requested a slight delay as you just remembered you had some gigs to do at the weekend. Then you ignored my follow up emails. Now this! You cannot go on treating people like this on here mate. Poor show.
4.
Have you seen Ou7shined's Pingray before? If not, give him a shout (if you're thinking of modding a P).
Cheers for the heads-up.
I briefly had one that had been done before I bought it. Didn't really give me what I wanted at the time....
Yep quite often the mistake is made of placing the MM pup where it looks best without too much additional work (ie. directly in between the p/g and the bridge) and it ultimately sounds a bit disappointing there - thin and nasal. The best spot is the "MM sweet spot" which Leo took a lot of time in R&D discovering. Unfortunately this spot shares some of the footprint of the P pup. The logical thing therefore is to reverse the P pup (keeping the E/A side of the pup in the original position) thusly... ...the afore mentioned Pingray Best of both worlds and the compromise with the reversed P doesn't seem like a compromise anymore.... it just makes sense. Completely replacing the split P pup with full 'bucker in the authentic P position yields fantastic results too. You end up with a very versatile P bass with a few different switching options ranging from single coil to phat series 'bucker tone. Of course Leo did all this years ago with the G&L L-1000 and his MFD pups are still imho the best for the job. My L-1000 can sound like a genuine old school split P or an even older school single at the mere flick of a switch.... then you've got the "P on steroids" mode bringing up the rear Here's a prototype (with many many switching options - all passive) I built for myself using all G&L hardware and a knackered '78 P body....
5.
....On Basschat at the moment the P bass seems to be more popular....
Fixed Not long ago it was all jazz this and super jazz that.
6. Sweet.
7. It's a shame that whoever rubbed it back took a lot of it's original shape away with it too.
8. How does vol/vol tone/tone grab ya?
9.
i know what you mean, and people would be free to upgrade them if they so wish. What about a centre detent for the treble. As the bass is boost only it doesn't matter so much, but for the treble with boost and cut, it will be like the original preamp controls
Yep that's what I was thinking. Centre detent would be [s]nice[/s] (edit) essential.
10. CTS would not be a deal breaker for me. They all work the same at the end of the day.
11. Yeah I would. Is that including the pots? I've been following the other thread and been thinking about having a crack at them too but that's a price not to be sniffed at even for someone capable of doing it for themselves.
12. I duz I think he means me bruv
13. Well that sucks ass...izzle
14.
I preferred some of the grittier amp sims of the B2, none of the B3 ones really float my boat except for the B15 which cops a good Motown sound. Pretty much every other effect is miles better on the B3 and there are individual blend controls for the effects, the entire patch, as well as a separate master blend. The filters and compressors are particularly good which is something tat let the B2 down also. Anyway, this is now sold!
That's good to know cheers. I'm thinking about trying one out too but was hoping I wasn't just being influenced by the funky display.
15. Most preamps colour the tone to some extent even when set perfectly flat. I've only used the OBP-3s form Aguilar but I find them most agreable flat and love the boost/cut points. I have never directly compared them with any Ibby pre's but I think you will be happy with the change.
16. How does it compare to the B2 then? I used to have a B2.1u and apart from the obvious it seems similarly featured. I loved the effects but found it a little noisy.
17. Now, I know one of you is taking the piss... I just can't work out if you both are. Nice base btw man.
18. Nice one. I'm glad you got Breathing in there. I'd hate to make the call on choosing which songs to leave in or out, there's so much quality tuneage. I've been besotted with her stuff since I first saw her as a nipper back in the 70s on our black & white telly (could have been TOGWT) - I remember my mum catching sight of her and saying "who's that witch?" . I stuck with her even when it wasn't cool and all my metal/grunge mates were wondering wtf I was listening to.
19.
... ...
First saw this a few years back. Very cool.
20. Bought some old pups off Rob. They were with me next day all bubble wrapped up. Great guy to deal with. Many thanks mate. Rich.
21. I though this was going to be a thread about Mike Batt selling off his amps.
