Like it. Piezo bridge? edit : Crazy ! Totally by accident while looking for something else I found this... So P pup it is then. I didn't see it way up there.

The ones I've played have been decidedly "meh"... get a Sub if you want something close to a Stingray.

SEI 5-string jazz bass NO RESERVE
Ou7shined replied to eubassix's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Hi James. Sorry to hear that you've been mucked about like that.... there seems to be a bit of it going about just now, in fact oddly enough 2 of us on here have had similar experiences off one of the "contributors" to this thread recently. As Luke said, sell it on here... most of us on here are actually experienced buyers/seller with a gentlemanly attitude and an abhorrence to wind-up merchants. -

A bit of a TIM waister if you ask me. I replied to Kevin's ad about a trade of pre-amps (his JE for and Aguilar OBP-3 etc) and all was hunkydory... well apart from despite giving me the impression that we were trading, he answered a question in his FS thread that his preamp was still up for grabs. Once that was cleared up and he'd found out that I had an even more desirable preamp, he wanted that instead... as it was a pre-amp actually used by Sei (his bass). We agreed a cash adjustment and shook hands on it, he gave me a date of when he'd have the pre removed and in the post... he then got in touch the next day to say that he was going to postpone removing the pre from his bass for a couple of days as he'd just remembered he had a few gigs that weekend (?) I was a little deflated by his memory lapse but agreed to wait a few days extra. The weekend passed, then few days more and I'd heard nothing... not even a reply to my follow up email - in the mean time I'd gone ahead with my side of the deal and removed the pre from my bass. I serviced the pots and re-solder joints to make sure everything was in top nick and as requested I meticulously labelled all the pots and wires for him (it is a rare and slightly complicated pre with not much info about it freely available and he said his soldering skills weren't up to much) and got it boxed up ready to post. I also got my bass prepped in readiness for the incoming JE pre. Next thing I know his pre is back up for sale again (apparently now sold - although who would have bought it after the comment I left in the thread is beyond me)... no explanations or apologies or anything. This is the first time I've been compelled to actually post negative feedback for anyone on here but as Kevin had also recently caused another member to lose out on a big sale I thought I speak up.

Yep I concur.
A totally giggable bass for silly money. Bargain.
Yep. Plenty on here are still going strong at gigs. Apparently all you need to do is swap out the neck, the pickup, the wiring loom, the p/g, the tuners, realign and/or replace the bridge and you're good to go.
It's a Ou7shined Ping-ray.... MM in the correct place and just moved the D-G side of the P pup forward of the other side to fit them in. (does that put that side of the pup in jazz bridge territory? )
I just tried a side by side comparison (just eyeballing) and the J neck pup seems to lie almost down the middle of the E/A pup.

Not wishing to derail but...
Ou7shined, wow what is that? Looks like a Jazz body. How do the controls work? Active or passive? Do you have sound clips? -Mark
Cheers Mark. Yep I'm afraid a Fender J had to die to make it... but hey. I like to think of as me bringing it more to life. It's fully active with a Seymour Duncan STC-2P 2-band (18v) which is fairly sympathetic with the 'ray 2 band - without the hump obviously. The controls are vol, blend and concentric bass and treble. And I wired a series/parallel switch to the unused "slap" push/pull option - so I can make it sound like a Stingray or a Sub. No sound clips I'm afraid - I keep meaning to get some done... too many basses not enough time.
So are you saying it was a total custom build from the body up? What does the head stock look like? Yeah noticed the reversed split p pickup. I had an Aria Pro that was like that. Always thought that was a good idea.
I think of this one is more of a bitsa than a total custom build... although my bitsas tend to be a bit more in-depth than just bolting on a new neck and adding a bridge. I'm not going to claim any drastic changes in tone from reversing the P like that but it seems to make better sense and I for one sure as hell like how it sounds. Headstock looks like this (pre-Osprey days)... and the whole sh'bang looks a little like ...
[sub]Should fit Tom, fit nicely on my 70's bitsa precision[/sub]
Just to offer a little ballance, I bought a set of these a few years ago and like Rob also found them to be too large for my headstock (the plate on the G one sticks out over the end). Not one to be defeated by such a detail I got.... creative. Well you can't just leave a spare hole at the end can you. Looks kind of cool I think.
I call it the P-Ray and it gives me the best of both worlds... I still get the amazing playability of the Stingray while having a warmer woodier tone from the passive P-bass pickups (which are moved forward a bit from the orignal block pickup). -Mark
Nah. This is the best of both worlds... and no Stingrays had to die.

As Fran said you might be ok with the one it has on it - unless your seller has emphatically told you that he's tried really hard but can't get it to intonate. I think the bum wrap comes from the inability of 2 saddle bridges on the Bronco and the like to just offering compromises when intonating. My Fender '51 intonated perfectly fine with the stock bridge. I fitted a Wilkinson swivel bridge to one of my constructions which made intonating a lot quicker than with the standard fixed twin saddle. I don't know if you can get them in string-thru though ...
It's not even that (I hadn't thought about that until you mentioned it). I just don't see what relevance the buyer's BC membership status has. To me, it's like saying "I hope someone in Aberdeen won it", just because I live in Aberdeen.
Oh well in that case, get with the program you grumpy old git.
My guess would be to avoid damage from "popping". These sort of finishes start to deteriorate quite quickly from wear like that.
I'm pretty much with you. I have a maple bodied 5er which has a very very thin clear nitro finish and no p/g - not the same finish but equally as vulnerable from popping. As can be seen by a bunch of tiny little nail digs... right where this wee p/g would have prevented it. I'm not sure I would class it as deterioration though... more like genuine mojo.

Totally. When will people realise that "collect only" severely limits your selling potential.
Why do you hope it was a BCer? Not trying to pick an argument, it just struck me as a strange thing to say.
I'm guessing you thought he meant "hope the (unlucky) seller was a BCer" not the buyer, aye?
-
Yep as the guys are saying, a better break angle might be the solution your looking for. A string tree aught to do it if the windings on you tuner can't ... but are you wanting to go drilling holes in your bonnie custom headstock?

Out of the 20 or so basses I have dotted about the place, my 'ray is my only stock factory built model. I think that about says it all really. Btw folks there's no such thing as a 'ray eater. Nothing can do the 'ray sound like a 'ray can.... the only think close to claiming the title is the 2eq over the 3. *edited out the feckin predictive text once I got home*
