1.
...So if you are going to criticise one person you have to criticise them all. which seemed to be lost on Kiogon. You CANNOT differentiate between one person doing it and another....
I think you can. It's like the difference between someone having the occasional puff of herbal and dealing smack. You'd have them both locked up in irons because you can't differentiate between them. Hang on, are you saying you had a Fender labelled bass that wasn't a Fender? ..... Ooh methinks he doth protest too much. If Howard built Discreet's bass (I've never heard of it until now) then it's probably better than a fecking fender in the first place so they will be getting themselves a fecking bargain. Ebay dude is making a bob... quite literally... that's why I don't understand why he's bothering. He'd make it worth his while by saying they were Fenders and charging appropriately - but he's not.
 2.
....To me this is no different than someone selling a 1.1 with a GTi kit and saying this is a 1.1l with a GTi kit.
I agree 100%. But the bigger picture is that some of these basses will be sold on as fenders and undoubtedly some of them will end up on here and people will get ripped off... maybe even mates of ours. Of course legally the ebay dude has no recourse to this. And maybe the mugs that buy them deserve what they get - I'm convinced that half the people that rave about their latest Fender purchase wouldn't be able to tell the difference while the rose tinteds are on anyway. What Howard did for Discreet is basically just a one off (something to turn a blind eye to) and not a production line like this ebay guy. I have nothing against what ebay dude is doing as it is a free market but I have reservations as to why... and obviously the potential repercussions for us.
 3. Neck bolts pushing through the neck? Yeah tell me about it. Seriuosly though, what bass is it? If it is an expensive one then yes think it will affect it's value.
 4. The wee wires that come off the coil (and ultimately terminate at the solder blob) don't like being heated too much and can just burn out like a fuse. If you are good with an iron and confident that you can complete the job in under a second or two then go for it... otherwise it's a bit of a gamble.
 5.
....So in short this is a modified squier not an original fender. Now that you have all the info please feel free to proceed how you desire....
Can you tell me the weight please? I need the weight in AWESOMEs if you can. eg. +AWESOME+ = quite light and +++++++AWESOME+++++++++ = very heavy.
 6. I think it would be insulting to everyone's intelligence to deny any connection between the two ... but that connection is based purely on economics. Franchise and outsource then afilliate in order to capture the bottom end of the market and also potentially cultivate sales by virtue of upgrading.
 7. Splitting my hairy beanbag more like. They are not Fenders. They are Squiers. The Ford escort analogy doesn't work man. Squire by Fender doesn't equate to Escort by Ford ... if it did what would the automotive equivalent to a MIM J bass be ... Ford other Ford by Ford?
 8. Tools. Btw I'm not answering the OP's question, I'm just making an obsevation.
 9.
I don't own a Fender. If you don't count Squiers as Fenders (as people who choose to disguise them obviously don't) then I have never owned a Fender. So get off your high horse and stop being a dick.
Matt, stop calling people dicks. Are we cool everyone?
the string tee is the best guide, a fender is twenty past two from the second tee
I'm still trying to work out what this means.
 10.
You're the one whos on the high horse buddy. Quoting me insinuating that I'm somehow inferior, and suggesting I save my pennies. I'm not being a dick. If you don't own a fender then why do you even give a crap. I think you're out of line. I think you should apologise for calling me a dick. I think you are very mean.
Hang on man. Neepheid (a self confessed Gibson addict) was simply responding to your claim that most of us have had a Fender badged Squier at some point and that it is accepted as normal practice. To be fair this is a pretty wild assumption, if only for the following reasons... firstly it's not true ... and secondly because contrary to what some would have us believe, a vast amount of bass players don't even care about Fenders, let alone be so indoctrinated into the cult as to have to fake one up so "our public" thinks we are playing one when we are not. Chili-chill-chill
 11.
..... Should have used MOP inlays in black headstocks
12. Pretty good example by the looks of it. Usually the kitchen worktop stuff is all peeling away on these.
 13.
I was the same. I tried several over the years and they just always seemed to get in the way.... then I came up with the idea of making a half height one. Hey presto it worked perfectly. It just feels like resting my thumb on a pickup cover like I'm used to. If anyone wants me to custom make them a half height one (maple, birdseye maple or ebony) get in touch.
Looks like my idea got pinched. link
 14.
If it's fixable you'll get first refusal @ £20 + parts + shipping when it's done mate.
Respect.
Sorry boss, wasn''t ignoring you but was sellng and packing the pedal. TBH I have no idea what's wrong with the MXR. Outside and inside look fine to me. But then, I have a social sciences degree.
No probs man.
 15. Hmm I guess we'll never know.
 16. What's suspect with the Octave?
 17.
Shilling is were the Seller uses another ID or a mate to push the price up by putting a few bids of their own in . Sometimes they get greedy and end up winning their own item by being too greedy.
Then the genuine bidder gets offered a second chance at their highest bid rather than the potential bargain they would have had if no one else had interfered. It's totally ruined ebay... but ebay doesn't care because they get commission on the final sale.
 18.
Nothing major. But the Fuzzy-Wuzzy or what ever it is that seems to buy all the gear on this thread is most likely a shiller going too high. But in that thread certain members think shilling is no harm no foul.
Ah. You had me scratching my napper there too. "Fuzzy-Wuzzy".
 19. I don't care what he's doing with these Squiers per se but he isn't exactly squeaky clean folks ... I've spotted a bit of nefarious selling/buying activity - namely a size 10 lady with a penchant for spray tan and hair extensions who likes to buy Squire basses off him every now and then (two in one day once) and leave glowing feedback.... ... Maybe she puts Squier decals on them and sells them back to ebay.
 20.
You spiteful cock sucker, why don't you channel your negative energy into something positive for a change +++++AWESOME+++++
I seriously lawled
 21. I don't get it. He seems to buy them up off the bay for anything under £100, tarts them up into "Fenders" and then puts them back on the bay as Squiers but "not Fenders" for a little bit more than what he paid for them gross. Putting the ethics aside for one moment... he's making hardly any money out of it. The only thing I can think of is, he's a money laundering bass player on a one man mission to reduce the number of genuine Squiers in the world. edit : damn you predictive text!
 22. Hang on I'll just check on google earth for a pic of all the basses & gear I own.
 23. D180766 (1982 USA Fullerton Jazz) spotted on what is probably a Squier... P
