Do they not a weigh a sh*t load?
Just tried the chrome (on steel by the looks of it) one that I've had hanging on the workshop wall for ages on my digi scales... 45.2g ... bought it off one of the mods off here come to think of it

Very enjoyable songs. Puts me in the mood for some Peter Hammill.

Here's my latest DAW attempt... number four I think. Again it's just a riff idea to pass onto the guys in the band (Holiday Dog) that got out of hand... but this time I really tried a lot harder to get a decent sound. I'm really enjoying playing with my Addictive Drums vst - some of you may remember my first attempt having a loop from my Korg PX4D running right the way through . This is just an instrumental version and no real structure worked out - I do have a vocals to go with it but I've just not gotten around to recordiung them... I think I lack the nuts to blast them out in the house... I just sing them at rehearsals. Btw this is my first try at making a vid (windows live movie maker). I showed it to a mate and his initial comment was "Is it supposed to look like that?" If I were to redo any of the recordings I would probably use a bit of fuzz (Mastotron) on some of the bass parts as I think it feels a little bland. Having not listened to it for a while I notice the rhythm guitar probably needs more work but I'm not sure what - I gave it quite a pinched mid eq'ing - like a wah being held down but I think it may be coming across a bit more fizzley than I'd want... could just be my speakers. But generally as far as levels go how am I doing?

Don't fear the Reaper. I paid my 30 quid for the licence and it's fantastic for what I do. I sometimes use Audacity to capture riff ideas but if I do it in Reaper I always end up adding more and more tracks until I basically have a song because of how easy and fun it is to use.
No controls and 'skin'? What exactly is this guy on?
Lots of pills apparently... according to his feedback profile.
.... But the bridge is not Fender .....
Phew I thought I'd gone bonkers everyone going on about decals and the like... even the mighty Rick neglected to add what I'd already said to his list of obvious faux pas.

String tree screw head made of cheese...removal???
Ou7shined replied to Twigman's topic in Repairs and Technical
You only need to drill the head off the screw ... then you are left with a stub which can be gripped by moleys or pliers etc. -
Cheers Shep. I noticed that apart from that Spanish guy there was a big lack of Mastotron/bass vids on yt so I did this 'un. I know mine only has one setting (and it probably runs for twice as long as is necessary ) but it's a fairly decent example of what it can do.

Fender P-Bass comparison. Guess which is which!
Ou7shined replied to Miki Groove's topic in Bass Guitars
I think we are actually better at hearing the difference between fretboard woods and oxygen free mains cables. -
It must have been a painting of it in the loft.
The third one sounds the best.... that probably makes it the MIM then. -
£770 He's going to wish his reserve was lower.
........This is at £225 at the moment, already £125 more than its worth. ......
It's broken the 400 mark now. 2 and a half hours to go.
I've bought from that seller before.... twice! My parts were a great deal cheaper & in much better shape. Go figure!?
I wonder where he gets his stock from. People pay a premium on these items because they are supposed to be rare... he doesn't seem to have a problem finding them at all - presumably he has that much vintage gear for sale 365 days a year.
I thought the burn marks were from an orbital sander.

same here
I'm fairly sure a sander wouldn't burn around corners... unless you meant it to. Besides if it was, you'd just remove it - friction burns don't go deep.
-
why on earth would anyone have sanded a neck like that?
It looks to me like it has been set on fire and someone has attempted to remove the charred bit.
Some of the early japanese fender basses had the bridge earth wire, it became a bit of a trademark fender japan thing on quite a few of their jazz models. I would be more worried if it wasn't there. Apart from the tuners which I don't have enough knowledge either way, and the scratches that I can't explain then this looks 'ok'. The body seems to be a fender japan standard body- or the stamp suggests the (lower level) '62 ri. The neck logo and truss access is the same as a fender japan standard jazz one. I would wonder why there wasn't a stamp at the heel of the neck and about the tuners- but if it plays well I wouldn't worry that much.
Coolio.
TRUSS ROD WORKS FINE
Yep for now. But it's just biding it's time before popping through that thin bit at the back of the neck. edit :Nice ti see the sun's oot i'day eh.
-
Well if the guys are happy with those tuners then so am I - I ain't no Fender expert. ... I don't have a MIJ here right now to compare but I kind of find it hard to believe as I have a less prestigious Jap bass here with way nicer tuners on it and a Jay Turser bass with almost identical ones to these. Is the bridge earth wire ringing any bells with anyone? I recently serviced a MIJ but it had your average hole through to the control cavity job.
That is gorgeous! Great video too.
Cheers. It seems to give me all the dirty fuzzy crunchy goodness I like without getting synthy.... and tons of bottom - I did the recording on the mid setting... can't wait to try out the full sub setting at practice.
Sounds great, I tried one out in a guitar shop a few years ago and loved it. Would be worried about stomping on it live though, with the proximity of knobs to switch.
Yeah I see what you mean but the knobs are quite positive feeling and I don't think they would nudge all that easily in an accident (I'll bet anything the settings wouldn't even budge going in and out of my gear bag) The footswitch needs quite a firm press to engage though so I'd say precise operation is necessary. Luckily, the Mastotron logo has a handy sort of "place your toe here" design to it. Time will tell.

Those tuners look like cheap Schaller BM (short) copies
