Think I've found it:
That's the fella
Would wire wool work too, chief? I've never tried it with a waxed neck, mind.
Might do. I think there might be some good vids on yt (specifically for MusicMan) which show you how to care for oiled necks. I'm on my phone so I can't go hunting for links just now.

Hit it with some very fine sand paper, that should sort you out.

Stick some Lindy Fralin pups in your jazz. You'll not regret it. I have some in the bass I used to use in my Pearl Jam tribute... full rock tone and no mistake.
In the same way harmonics work on a string. You can touch a string at various harmonic points along its length and it will still vibrate and produce a note, whereas if you touch the string outside of the harmonic point the note is dead. The same applies to any material including wood. Certain areas produce harmonics and may result in a counter effect on the string resonance. Hard to explain.
Interesting - not really thought about it like that. Harmonic points on a string for example are created by the actual physical wave form they make while vibrating... to find these points on a bit of wood you'd expect it to be quite long... like huge. Have you got links about this? It reminds me of a story my physics teacher told me about being able to snap a lamp-post with your finger... all you have to do is find the exact frequency that it is vibrating at and at exactly at which point it is flexing around and prod it in the counter direction.
I was thinking that. But I also think they are sh*t. If something needs a bit of torque they can roll up rather than turning. Mine made the usual dunk sound as it hit the bottom of the bin
I know I'm just trying to help the lad out of a tight corner - I'm sure given the time I could find the perfect tool. Like I say if it were mine I'd try thinking out of the box before attempting invasive surgery.

Aye my C is a B string. No sorry, I didnae read the but about needing flats or grounds... still food for thought eh.
Surely that is never going to fit in there. The non bendy bit holding end looks at least 1" long.
If it were mine... I'd give it a try. Besides those were just the first examples I came across in a 1 minute ebay search.
mine is ok after 21 years. Mind you I doubt the production methods are the same anymore
Yeah I'm not saying it's a bad idea and that they will all go like that... what I'm saying is that no matter the wood, the grain or the construction technique, no one is 100% immune from natures will.

I'm using 125 Elites Stadium 5 string strings on my 4 string for that very same tuning.
Warwick necks made in Germany are contructed of multiple laminates, selected by hand, to insure the grain runs like this: \\\|||/// Its done for stability, and as an added bonus looks nice when carved. The Rockbass and Pro Series use a multi-laminate neck made of maple with ekanga veneers...again, for stability and to prevent twisting.
Yep that the "official" ( ) line... however the fact is, that as little a single rogue veneer can pull a neck right out of whack if that's what it wants to do.

"The Hayman 40 40".....anybody got a spare 7 grand?!?!
Ou7shined replied to EddieG's topic in Bass Guitars
Oh man. I used to have a guitar version of one of these... I gave it away to a mate for nowt some time in the early 90's. He reminds me about it every time I see him. -
I would if I could bud... but it's a bit of a commute.

Nice one Stu ... especially with those pups.
It's the stock bridge, I have a feeling that it did start off like that. Which, granted, is a bit worrying quality control wise, (not being able to get the action below 4.5mm is a bit crap) but I can't see how it could have been done afterwards. All the truss rod stuff I was banging on about turned out not to be the real problem.
Sorry my bad, you misunderstood what I said, I know the bridge is the original (that's why I'm kind of trying to persuade you to not grind it down just yet) what I meant was that the neck didn't start off being like that. Anyway I think I've done all I can here. Good luck man.
-
.... I think, in the end, the problem is that it's a neck-through and the bridge's profile is too high for it. ....
But it didn't start off like that. Rather than take a bench grinder to your dream bass in order to address it's current issues you should try and fix what's causing it... imho.
....One thing I have thought about is that I need to find a local Guitar repairer or Luthier that I can talk to in person and show the problems to in the future.
I couldn't agree more. They will be able to help you address this in a way that's more sympathetic to the instrument.
-
Nice track there man.

I'm glad you are much happier now but it kinda sounds to me like you are relieving symptoms (somewhat drastically too) but not curing the cause.

Sh*t the bed that's awful.
So how can you not know what it is then?
Because from this photo (for what it's worth... the point of this thread) there is no way of knowing if it is indeed what the description says it is... in fact to be honest it's quite hard to tell through the ectoplasm that it actually is a bass. If it really is yours then I apologise for my comment earlier...it's just the sheer despondency in the description tickled me.
-
.... Love the photo though.
.... rubbish pic because I only unwrapped it far enough to see it wasn't as expected, then sat about debating whether to send back.... I'm surprised he had the energy to switch his camera on.
Weren't these like £40 when they went on offer?
I think they were 60... but I have seen them sold for more on here. I saw a rough body go for 60 although it wasn't openly disclosed as a SR - it was simply advertised as a P bass type body. Nasty.
-
There should be a branded in stamp on the heel of the neck, not sure about the body though.
