1. Blimey Shaun this other bass must be magnificent if you're thinking of selling your Sei. I'm curious to what it might be.
2. Ouch! Funny that a whole board should fail. I wonder if they just narrowed it down to that vicinity and condemned it? Having worked in the motor trade where fantastic, resourceful mechanics have been superseded by parts replacers, I'll bet that's the case.
3. 1. If you are indeed a diy retard then get someone else to do it. 2. Wood filler will work but if you sand it afterwards you will be creating more work for yourself because you'll have to reapply the surrounding finish that you remove. If you go down to B&Q you should be able to pick up a tube of filler that will just about match. The colour looks like it might be mahogany, you'll get the best match if you take you're bass down. Pack it in the hole and try and keep it as level to the finish as possible then as it starts to go off (usually withing about a minute of applying) wet the tip of your finger slightly and rub the filler until it's smooth - if you put on too much water it will soak it up and bubble out wards. It'll never be a perfect match but it might be sufficient to not annoy you anymore. Once it has throughly set you may be able to "polish" it up with some 00 wire wool (test under the p/g first) - I'm a 12-1500 grade sandpaper guy myself. If the end result colour is way out you could try staining it with a blob of stain or tea or coffee.
4.
bump for gorgeous looker and great player!
Talking about yourself again eh?
5. Bought a Stingray pup off Dan. It arrived super fast and immaculately packaged. What more could you ask. Many thanks. Rich.
6. So which one are you going to go with then?
7. I suggest sticking it on with blu-tac before deciding where to drill holes - this will also let you play about with what is the best position for you. If you stick it on well blu-tac can even get you through a gig. I did this with pup and bridge covers on a mint '51 P and I'm glad I did as in the end I didn't have the nerve to drill and I was ultimately able to sell the bass on unmolested.
8.
Hmmm, rosewood is starting to storm ahead. Watch the 'For sale: other items' forum soon!
Dibs!
9.
<<<<<-------AFTER Bit of an early one this.......late 70s/1980ish!! BEFORE------>>>>>>
Fantastic. Where's that 'ray now I wonder?
10. There seems to be some black magic involved with this phenomenon. I have actually taken a MM pup that had been removed from it's original host because of a reported weak G pole and put it in another bass and it never displayed the problem. Some say it is not to do with any physical characteristic but merely down to eq settings.
11.
.... Could the seller have a Fender and has sanded an area of the headstock to make people think that it may be a Squier?..
You could be on to something there. I'm on my phone and can't be arsed opening up the pic again but I think I remember thinking when I first saw it that the sanded bit looked smaller than the logo would have been.
12. I imagine you would have to reposition the bridge so that the effective intonation range is there. The dynamics of the pup's "sweet spot" would be changed by changing the scale too. It might work in your favour, it might not.
13. Up here for thinking down there for dancing.
14. Here's my beefed up one...
15.
It would have had the diamond pickups, and looked like this: http://www.vintagehofner.co.uk/hofner/basses/bas22.html
Ah right thanks. Skinny little devils are they?
16. I put extra washers on mine (in fact I used rubber washers) to take up the slack and it never goes out of tune ever.
17. Minimalist. Nice. What kind of pickups would that of had. Surface mounted?
18. Yeah just check each one for fit first and send it home quickly. Leave at least 1cm sticking out so its easy to trim later. Let them sit over night and the superglue will be hard as anything.
19. Toothpicks and superglue. Works a treat.
20. I think we're seeing a pattern forming here.
21.
Again, thanks for all the replies fellas. The buzzing starts around the 8th fret on the E, A and D strings. Towards the upper regster, there are a couple of dead notes towards the end of teh neck. As they have agreed to refund me £30 towards a set-up then I think that I'll keep it, my guitar tech charges £30 for a set-up but if there's something minor that can be fixed here then I'd be inclined to have a go myself. To my eternal shame, I've been playing gutiar and bass since I was 13 and never once have I learned how to set up a guitar. I'd love someone to teach me properly as it can save you wads of cash over the years. Maybe something someone could organise - I'd definitley be up for learning.
This is all you need to know. That'll be £30 please.
22. But this could all be cleared up in 10 minutes. Dave you said your nut is high too... and you've had no issues with it. Maybe it's just how these are. If we could find out a bit more than "it buzzes" then we can at least eliminate that all it needs is a TR tweak.
