How do they compare to other coated strings, ie Elixirs (if you can comment?)
I've been using Elixirs now for just under a year pretty much exclusively, but would certainly be interested to know if the EBs are in any way comparable in terms of quality/tone.
You might want to consider installing an active preamp to give you more treble before the signal hits the amplifier, something like a J-Retro?
As for pickups, I think the EMGs should be fine for the tone you're after, but maybe look at the likes of Bartolini too to widen your options.
Hope this helps
Danny
In Northern Ireland we have a host of great small timers - two that immediately spring to mind as being influential too me are Aidan McGuigan and Sumi Kal. Both incredibly understated in their playing, with an appreciation of groove and holding down the low end as opposed to technical wizardry. Top notch IMO!
Townshend does have that lackadaisical playing style these days though - seems to alternate between on and off-beat when it suits him, same with his vocals. Doesn't make it sound like it does on the record but I think they're past the point of trying to prove themselves as rockstars and are just enjoying themselves well into their 60s. Fair play to them!
Pino = incredible, did any of you catch his bass playing after Roger's scream in Won't Get Fooled Again? Superb, melodic, totally different from what JE would have played but still fitted perfectly with what Zak was doing. Of course, they'll never be a direct replacement for John and Keith, but they do a damn good job!
I actually really like the look of those Bootsy models, but the price does seem a bit ridiculous. I'd be very surprised if they sold more than 50 worldwide.

From the Planet Waves Website FAQ..........
Will plugging in one of your directional cables the wrong way harm equipment?
No. While the ideal configuration for optimum shielding is achieved when the shielded end of the cable is connected to the amplifier, you will not harm your guitar, amplifier, or other equipment by running the cable the wrong way.
Ahh very good, nice to know for future reference.
Danny
I actually have a lead which says the same, is yours made by Planet Waves too?
I never really pay attention to which end goes where, but I *think* the shielded end is for your guitar, and the other for the amp.
Could be (and am probably) wrong though
I generally try to keep mine around 50-60% on the meter - if it's constantly going into the red, it's probably not good for the preamp, unless of course it has a valve in it which you want to drive. Your bass must have a super high output BTW?
AFAIK, it's the venue's responsibility to pay PRS fees, and I suspect the VAT part of your post to also be a blatant scam to get more money - although I'm sure someone else will be able to confirm this.
Not gonna name and shame the venue?
Just found a copy of Baker Street in Eb which I think is the original key on the track.
Intro chords are - Ab(with Bb bass), E(with Gb bass) and Gb(with Ab bass)
Looks strange but works! (some chords are 11ths?)
Sax intro chords are - Eb / Eb Gb with Bb bass / Eb / Eb with Gb bass /
Db / Bbm / Ab / Ab7 / .............then into the verse starting on Bb
Hope this helps!
Cheers

Close enough I think, although the original track on the 'City To City' album is in D - the Eb version was featured on a number of compilations around the late 70's.
Danny
I don't have my bass with me but I think the intro is Am, F and G, sax solo something like
Dm, G, Dm, G, C, Am, G
Hope this helps you in the right direction!
Danny
EDIT - could well be Dmaj although the sax solo indicates a minor key?
Great interview, I've recently been in touch with him via email, seems like a really nice genuine fellow. Tip - don't get him started on EUB's! Very touching when he talks about John Martyn. Hopefully going to see him play on 4th Feb, can't wait!
I should imagine so - I've never put them on that specific model of Fender but lots of users on here (including myself) have had success with them on all manner of Precision and Jazz basses!
Alot of dealers are now doing this "take away" scheme. You pay a 10% deposit of the overall amount, then pay the rest off in 9 monthly installments. Soundslive do it for an example.
That scheme applies to musical instruments only, not amplifiers unfortunately.
