1.
Personally I'd use DW Guitars but a lot of people will say Bernie Goodfellow.
Thanks for the recommendation. Does Bernie repair and maintain non-GB instruments? Can't see anything on his website. Danny
2. A very sad loss. His playing on Shadows tracks such as Temptation and Fandango really inspired me. RIP.
3. Hey guys, I have a bit of work to do on a couple of my basses over the next month or so. My main axe needs the electrics looked at and possibly rewired, as well as a full set up and possibly a new nut and tuners installed. I also want a Jazz pickup installed in the bridge position of my fretless Precision bass as well as a full setup and perhaps get the board lacquered. Who can do this? Money is no object as long as they treat my babies well and don't mind courier-ing basses to Northern Ireland! Thanks in advance, Danny
4.
Just sticking this up for reference in case someone needs it in future. Industry standard is: AKG C451 for over-heads and hi-hat Sennheiser e603 for toms SM57 for snare top and bottom Beta 52 for bass (with an SM91 as well if you're really going all out) Alternatively if you're on a budget and buying new then I'd recommend: Behringer C2 for over-heads and hi-hat Thomann MB75 for toms and snare PG 52 for bass
Good post! Nice to know what the top guys are using.
5. As a matter of interest - what styles would you guys say the different DR breeds are most suited to? Been interested in the Hi Beams, Lo Riders and Sunbeams for some time now and may drop the bomb on a set, but not sure which to go for!
6. Are they available yet? They look peachy! Wonder what sort of cost they'll be though - I think if I found them on an American music website I may as well just change the dollar sign to a pound sign and save for that figure.
7. I think they are generally regarded as the best budget bass amp you can buy! Wonderful pieces of kit!
8. Total beauty! I love the stack knob configuration - I've had it on my own workhorse Jazz since I bought it and wouldn't change it for the world! Honestly not as expensive as I thought it would be from the Fender Custom Shop? I was looking at some custom Warwicks the other day, in comparison, and they were more than double the cost of this Jazz. That P/J just looks IMMENSE too!
9. My favourites are the Superlux DRK set - just fantastic, crisp mics and great VFM. My band uses them without a comp/gate and they just sound amazing, really natural! I think there's a review in one of those pro audio mags online too that actually persuaded me to buy them in the first place - I'll see if I can dig it out. EDIT - not exactly the same set, but the review can be found HERE if interested
10.
I heard that they are 100% wool.
Best. Post. Ever.
11. If it were me, I would present my opinion if asked, and wouldn't if not - especially if the guys themselves are 100% happy with the final recording.
12. With reference to OBBM - I've used the same cable he made me for over 100 gigs in the last year with no problems. A huge +1 from me Danny
13. I have a set of Wizard 84s on my primary Jazz, and when the neck pickup is soloed with the tone control open, it sounds exactly like a Precision - huge, warm and phat! +1 from me for these bad boys.
14. I'll gladly help too if need be. PM me with the details and we can sort something out
15. If a picture speaks a thousand words then: Quite simply - wow! Has anyone tried one of these beauties? I've always missed my SSII since selling it and this could well fill the Warwick void in my life! Danny
16. I'm starting a new job in the New Year so have naturally already got my first year's wages spent in my head! So far I have: Orange AD200 Valve Head A couple of Hartke Hydrive cabs A good cabinet mic A double bass A Fender Marcus Miller A J-Retro pre for above A Sennheiser G3 GB system Custom moulded earphones Better start saving now
17. I generally find that when playing covers on a 5 string bass, you can get away with substituting the low notes down as far as D, but any lower and I think your average music listener will subconsciously notice the difference as it is LOW!
18. Both very cool vids! Great to see footage of the legendary 'claw'!
19. Still at it! PM me for more info if required!
20.
I hate you Theres another few hours wasted as I follow the links to artistes and their records currently watching Ace Kefford and his slab body with the move and I can hear the grass grow
Excellent video! The tone he gets from the '66 in question is to die for.
21. 'Gimme Gimme Gimme' by ABBA is my undoubted favourite!
22.
Resurrecting the classic thread from BW/BT past! Here's mine - (pics) Ampeg SVT-4PRO Amp Ampeg SVT210HE Cabinet Ampeg SVT15E Cabinet Yeehaa!
23. An instrument is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If you sell it to someone for less than you could get from someone else, then it's just a combination of bad luck and perhaps judgement on the seller's part.
24. LINK Complete with applicator. Enjoy!
25. Also considering one of these systems for larger gigs - reviews do seem positive, on the whole! May be worth a punt and will always be useful as a spare if you do upgrade down the line.
