1.
That's not high action, that's the string recoiling from him beating the sh*t out of it. Look at the G string, were the action as high as the E string suggests it wouldn't be that close to the edge of the frets in a picture taken at that angle.
Good call, actually. You can see a slight bit of bend in the string from it's recoil.
2. I like to play ascending runs in the prechorus - the Bm part, I usually run up to the D, then up to the G. Aside from that - not really anything that different, mostly roots with the odd passing tone and octave thrown in!
3. James Jamerson Rutger Gunnarsson Pino Palladino
4. Lovely bass! Just a pity I don't have the readies at the mo or I'd be right on this! Best of luck with the sale bud
5. Marcus closed about a month ago, unfortunately. Two of the guys in my band are former employees, and they said it was coming for months. A real shame really as I noodled away many a good afternoon in there!
6. A friend of mine is working on a set of IEM buds at the moment - his company is called Minerva Hearing Protection, you should check them out as their prices are very competitive and they offer the same specs as ACS and Ultimate.
7. A Bass Bash would be a great idea! Sadly I have to echo the sentiments of those above - there are no decent shops on this island to try out bass gear, unless of course you're after an Aria or a Westfield! Marcus Music in Belfast is closed now too, which used to be the best in the city for basses. I think Matchetts have a few £500+ basses in, but even at that, you aren't spoiled for choice.
8.
Well, if they don't, then that's an even stronger reason not to use them. S.P.
9. I'm also 99% sure he used flats on Phantom anyway - it has that 'clank' that I associate with his sound that can definitely be attributed to using flatwounds. Never tried flats on a fretted Precision bass myself actually, although it's definitely on my to-do (to buy) list!
10. I'd have happily occupied the Jamerson role in the Motown setup, but I'd make sure I had a proper lawyer to negotiate my contracts!
11. Saw this guy play in Belfast the other day, very competent player and a really beautiful Warwick to boot!
12. I agree with everything that has been said above, but then, I also disagree.
13. What are your requirements for tone?
14. Looks the business! Certainly seems like it would be a worthy acquisition for recording alone. In a live context though? I think one might need PA support.
15.
Index-Ring-Pinkie here
+1! I think the two fingers I use the most actually are index and pinkie, which is why I can't understand people not using all four to fret! I'd be lost without the little one.
16. The Rebel ones are great, although they have legs as opposed to a round base I believe.
17. Is there any 'bounce' when you wear it, Gareth? I know a few people complained about the Comfort Strapp for that reason and the design looks a little similar. Great price though if not!
18. I have five - three fretted Jazz, one fretless Precision and an Ibanez which was my first ever bass!

I'm only catching up with this thread now. I can't believe we have lost a member - I remember him giving me great advice about my band's website back in the day and in retrospect the man was spot on with his recommendations! A truly great, knowledgable member who I will miss. I'm sure he's having the time of it at the great ceilidh gig in the sky. RIP Simon.
20. I've heard of the Fullerplast method being used a lot for Ash bodies, as the nitro tended to sink into the grain and make the finishing more difficult and time consuming. I think they finished some Alder bodies in all-nitro however. Re: your thoughts on tone - it's all in the fingers eh?
21.
This is supposed to be £899 RRP. http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/4547...-king-head.html
If this is true, I am in shock!
22. I use 'Transcribe' - saved me a LOT of time and effort when I had to learn 60 songs in 6 weeks for a new band, most of which we play in vastly different keys to the original tracks.
23. Yep, I keep a record of all my gigs on my website with some more detailed notes kept offline - I love collecting posters with the band name on them too, I think it'll be great to look back on in years to come!
24.
not my usual Earl Grey but this is just fantastically filthy...
Great find mate! I've been needing new designer sunglasses for a while
25. Great find OG - this is going to be just perfect for tomorrow afternoon, between gigs Thanks bud! EDIT - that Bernadette track is quite simply incredlble, it's been on my Youtube Favourites list now for a while but it's great to hear it in high quality! SECOND EDIT - The instrumental of 'You Keep Me Hanging On' has just literally brought a tear to mine eye!
