1. After a gig I played on Saturday where I was supplied with a 15w Kustom Bass combo, I was wondering if anyone else on here has had the same painstaking experiences? It truly was hell, I couldn't hear a single note I was playing and had a total lack of confidence because of it. The guy who supplied backline was thoroughly accosted afterwards! Oh well, it was a one-hand lift I guess. Danny
2. Very nice! Any pics of the full bass? Post in Gear Porn if you have, I'd love to see it in it's entirety. Danny
3.
Anyway i may be stuck in the 60s/70s and 80s but i love it and i wouldnt change it for the world.
I'm exactly the same mate, even though I'm not old enough to remember any of those decades! What an era for music. That Zeppelin performance you're talking about is brill, I think that's the one where Keith Moon can be spotted in the audience. 'How Many More Times' is the epitome of coolness IMO, Jonesy is so fluid on bass, a proper inspiration.
4. Beautiful guitar, Gareth! An absolute bargain too by the sounds of it. Danny
5. There was a discussion about this a couple of weeks ago HERE. Some music shops don't require a receipt, as they can get a replacement cable FOC anyway by sending the faulty one back. Danny
6. WOW I know I'll certainly be front row if they come to the UK! Danny
7.
Anybody tried a Rode dynamic mic?
No, but if they're anything like the condensors in terms of quality, I'd go for them in a heartbeat!
8. Shure SM58 might do in a pinch? Alternatively, check out Audix, particularly the OM2 and OM3. Hope you find the buggers who nicked your mics mate, keep your eye on your local Gumtree - you'd be surprised how stupid some criminals are. Danny
9.
Thanks mate, fortunately they offer free delivery on the SR500L. What was the state of your bass like out of the box (action etc.)?
I don't recall being asked for any setup preferences, but the action on said bass (Ibanez SRX500) hasn't been adjusted since I first got it. Whether or not this was the part of Ibanez or GAK, I certainly don't have any complaints about it.
10. I've dealt with GAK before, and IIRC they charged me an absolute fortune for delivery because it was to Northern Ireland, though this may not be a problem for you depending on your location. Apart from that, the order was fairly painless though, they give you an estimated delivery date and keep you updated with the dispatch information etc, so recommended if you're in England! Danny EDIT - might be worth giving them a ring first to check if the bass is in stock, as the website is sometimes slightly behind actual stock levels.
11. Received the book and currently enjoying it, will pass it on when I'm done! Many thanks to ahpook and guyl for a sterling job with the replacement Danny
12. I have a DT10 for stage tuning, and a CA30 for home/smaller gigs. Both have given me years of faultless operation, so highly recommended
13. I don't think there has ever been a better bass solo written than Entwistle's in 'My Generation' by The Who! Raw, musical, simple, and doesn't sound out of place at all.
14. Very interesting discussion so far. I've always shared the same viewpoint mentioned above that modes (and indeed scales) should be used as a guideline only - why limit oneself? If you play what you hear in your head and it's aurally pleasing, to yourself or an audience, then you've succeeded. Obviously if you're teaching the above, then getting the facts right is important, but I've never been lambasted for throwing in a chromatic tone or two here and there during solos or fills. Then again, maybe my audience have been too forgiving! Danny
15. I'm pretty sure if you placed an ad in the Wanted section, that someone on here would have a spare OLP MM pickup or something lying around, I know a few BCers changed the stock pickup out for a better model. Might not sound as good as a Seymour, but it will give you a general idea if you like the configuration or not. Hope this helps
16. I've recently taken to bluegrass-style slapping on my fretless and can see that the board has been grooved already (although it is unfinished rosewood). Don't think it'll wear beyond the surface though (I hope anyway!), but as I'm using flatwounds I can't see it being nearly as bad as rounds.
17. As previously expressed, I am very interested in the development of these, roll on the build diary!
18.
One of my favourite Kinks tracks along with "Victoria". I think they were a fantastic band, along with the Who and The Small Faces. London music at its finest.
Absolutely. I'm very much in the middle of a mod revival phase which has lasted for the last couple of years now, fantastic music.
19. This is definitely another one for the melting pot! +1 to whoever said about learning these tunes one after the other - I've only just finished with Rhythm Stick and before that, it was Sir Duke! Oh well, keep them coming, it only improves our playing at the end of the day really Danny

KORG PX4D

I have the bass version of this device myself (great buy by the way!) and always reckoned that the device names corresponded to the following: TWD4x10 - Fender 4x10 combo VALVE - Ampeg SVT2 VALVE2 - as above CLASSIC - Ampeg SVT-CL SCOOPED - Trace Elliot solid state head LA STUD - SWR GOLDPNL - Eden JAZZ - No idea, what does Jazz bassists use? STUDIO - Ampeg Portaflex combo AC100 - Vox bass head UKMAJOR - Hiwatt 200w head Hope this helps you, I've always imagined the above when I've been playing with my PX4B, some of the sounds are so good it makes me question why I bother with amplifiers sometimes Danny

Peavey gear

Played through a TNT 115 combo last night (as mentioned in the 'How was your gig last night' thread), and to my great surprise and joy, it sounded brilliant. Elevated it a few feet off the floor and it wasn't muddy in the slightest. A real beast of an amp to lug around though but I would definitely consider one in a wheeled flightcase as a backup amp. Danny
22. I bought one of their cables from a local guitar shop last week, and the guy basically told me that if the cable fails in any way, to bring it back to them and they'll replace it free of charge, receipt or not. I can't understand why most guitar shops wouldn't do this, they basically just send the faulty cable back and get a new one in return which they can sell at full price.
23.
For next Sunday's gig we have to set off at 2.30 in the morning !!!!
Good God, is the gig on the Moon?
24. My personal favourite Great band! I am almost positive that if I had have been born in 1949, I would enjoy going to gigs so much more than I do now!
25. Absolutely excellent! 1300 people at a festival gig, huge marquee and free bar for all the band members We didn't have to supply PA, backline or lights either, which I was a bit worried about at first, until we got there and realised that they had provided a full flown line array system with 4 monitor mixes, massive light setup including rotating heads, strobes and smoke machines! I almost cringed when I saw that they had provided a Peavey TNT115 amp for me to use, but it actually sounded fantastic! I elevated it off the ground by about 3ft and there was no mud whatsoever - brilliant! Still recovering now though
