Yeah, the Lifetime Warranty thing is really great, I'll be buying 15-20 mic cables very shortly and although some other manufacturers have been tempting, I think I'll go with Planet Waves for this reason alone! The little cable tie thing they have attached to each cable is really useful too. +1 from me
I'm late 30s too and I've read stuff where you have to be 40+ to qualify as old. I feel young but I feel old. We're in no mans land! There are others who write you off at 25.
I'm 22 and I'm going lightweight as soon as possible! I used to have a huge Ampeg stack powered by an SVT4PRO head but those days are long gone, I don't think the tone I got from that rig at gigs was good enough to justify lugging the damn thing around all the time.

Genuinely impressed, I wish I could play that song as well as you can! Keep it up

Wow, that guy is good! I don't think I could get away with playing like that in my bands though, doesn't mean I don't crave his chops though!
I bought one of these as my first bass 14 years ago cost me £45, I still have it great little bass.
I bought one as my first bass too, eight years ago it cost me £90! I later sold it for £100 to a friend of mine a couple of years later, couldn't believe the £10 profit even after I'd used and abused it proper. Wish I still had it now for sentiment's sake!

It sounds like it should be the background music in a Pro Evolution Soccer game!

Well firstly, if you like the sound of your current setup, then why change it? You could spend countless hours and pounds in search of a better tone, but I like to approach upgrades with the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' philosophy. In saying that though, there are a vast number of options available to Fender users, as the parts on J and P basses are standard sizes really, and pretty much every aftermarket manufacturer makes a part to directly replace a standard Fender part. A lot of Fender users upgrade their bridge at some point, but it's purely subjective whether or not it makes a bass sound 'better'. To my ears, a couple of my Jazz basses were vastly improved by replacing the stock bridge with a Leo Quan Badass Bass II bridge. Pickup-wise, again this is down to your own personal tastes. I have a set of Wizard Sixty-Fours in one of my Jazz Basses, and a set of Wizard Eighty-Fours in another. There are certainly a vast number of possibilities out there, but if you investigate your options and make a few shrewd purchases, then you can end up with a personalised bass which sounds exactly as you want it. Hope this helps, Danny

I think he means that the difference is that THIS ...pickup has two small magnets at either side of each string, whereas one with single polepieces would look something like THIS ...albeit the 5 string version Danny

For a start, I think the Wizard 84s would probably get you closer to your desired tone than the 64s would.
They differed slightly in the fact that they only concentrated on the Bon Scott era.
Yeah, funnily enough that's the same as the band I'm auditioning for. No Back In Black or Thunderstruck on the setlist but it still looks pretty tasty!

Hello all, I've agreed to audition for an AC/DC tribute band based near me in Northern Ireland. As you all probably know, tributes to AC/DC are ten a penny. Of course, the music is dead easy to play, and the money will probably be good, but is it worthwhile joining a band which will most likely be competing with 5/6 others in Ireland, let alone the UK? Has anyone on here ever played/currently play in a tribute band to the DC? What's it like? Is there a competitive element between other bands? I should mention that I don't particularly look like Cliff Williams but have long admired his simplistic playing style! Danny
I liekto drop in some of the horn section lines when I play it .. Makes it a tad more interesting ..
I love throwing in a C# (assuming you're in C) coming back in after the break in the verse, makes it really cook!
Ah my bad! Thanks
As you were! I know there are a few tutorial-type videos floating around the interweb where he uses a little Ashdown combo so you can be forgiven for thinking he uses a different brand.

One of our members on here, Phaedrus, currently owns a Tune, and I think may have had a couple more in the past - might be worth dropping him a PM to see if he has anything to share? Danny
The sods made me busk Mustang Sally. I'd got though my WHOLE LIFE avoiding that flippin' song...
Great tune! Played it last night myself and it went down a storm! Actually, I wonder how many players on BC played that song last night - that would be an interesting statistic
I was shocked he was using Mesa....no idea why. I suppose he was in America so that would make sense that a large company would get in there asap.
If I'm not mistaken, he's been using Mesa for a while now? Definitely the cabinets but I'm pretty sure he tours with their heads too?

Interesting thread! You just know it's going to be good when you start off a new paragraph with "being of a spreadsheet persuasion"
-
There's no reason at all that the Hartke wouldn't go with your Ashdown cabs, it actually sounds like pairing them together would make a classy rig! If you were to replace them though - have you a rough idea of how much you'd like to spend? Also, what sort of music would you be using them for? Danny

Modern bands with interesting bass guitar?
acidbass replied to thisnameistaken's topic in General Discussion
A few years back now, but if you haven't checked them out in detail, you're missing out a hell of a lot of good basslines in Jamiroquai's music! -
Elliot Minor! I heard you guys play in Belfast a couple of weeks ago, was walking past the venue on the way home from work and caught about half a song, sounded good mate

recommend strings for a rickenfaker????
acidbass replied to riff raff's topic in Accessories and Misc
I think the Rickenbacker own-brand strings are very highly rated, if you can get hold of them that is!
