1. For the music you've said you'll be playing, I suspect that the 115 will suit your needs better. A 2x10 cabinet will more than likely have more high end frequency response, but for boom and bass, the 115 will definitely win. The ABM cabs are generally held in higher regard than the MAG lines, although you might find you prefer the sound of one over the other. Ideally you'd be able to try both out, side by side, but alas, this isn't always possible!
2. Nice one, congrats on the purchase Gaf! I didn't know Wizard did aged pickups - I'll certainly be considering some for my next Jazz!
3. I think a lot of people swear by the Rickenbacker branded strings, as they are supposed to give that 'Rickenbacker sound' more than any other brand. I've heard of people using Rotosounds on theirs though, AFAIK that's what Geddy Lee did?
4.
Warwick do two in fact. One based on a Thumb, and another based on an SG shape with a bubinga top here: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/options.php?id=72505
I have had major GAS for that SG copy since they released it - it looks astounding! I'd like to see Fender reissue the 1960 slab body Precision (as used by Entwistle, Steve Currie of T-Rex, Ace Kefford of the Move and various others), though the chances of that happening are extremely slim. I'd certainly buy one though!
5. Although this does fall under Misc. Equipment and Accessories in a way, you'll probably get a better response in Recording. I've left a link in the original forum to the topic anyway Danny
6. I honestly don't think I've ever had GAS for a 6 string before, Steve. Thanks a lot mate!
7. I should be dropping in to the Belfast show with a couple of friends of mine (fingers crossed!) Hope to see you there mate!
8. Those MEC lipsticks look the biz! I'd imagine they don't sound too different from the normal ones though, which get mixed reviews. Definitely a try before you buy, but at that price it might be worth taking a punt and if you don't like them, I'm sure someone out there (or even on here!) will take them off your hands! Danny

10. Wow, that is a truly spectacular bass. Congrats on your new arrival Steve!
11. He seems like a nice guy, very modest about his equipment. His videos are always a great watch too, the guy has buckets of talent!
12.
Exactly! It sounds louder because you are boosting the treble and bass and cutting the mids. But in a band context you sometimes need the mids to cut through the other instruments so it can be the wrong sort of loud. Sometimes its better to turn off the pre-shape and turn up the volume.
+1. This will make the amp seem louder to you, but not the other band members, which reduces the risk of being asked to turn down (who does anyway? )
13. Front is Neck, and Rear is Bridge, unless there's some sort of Metric-Imperial conversion going on with pickup naming now too!
14. Wow, that was an absolutely fantastic watch. I got a lend of the DVD recently only to find out that the region wasn't supported on my DVD player - boy was I missing out!
15. So many great tunes listed here already - I'd learn them all! In the true spirit of Motown Friday, I'd recommend anything by Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye etc etc etc, the list goes on! Particular favourite If you come from a punk background (which I know you do!), it'll expand your playing repertoire beyond belief when you learn some of these sorts of stuff. Syncopated, non-root based playing at it's best.
16. I'd recommend buying a used OLP MM copy and replacing the pickup/circuit (maybe not both for under your budget though)
17. I dealt with a guy called Napper down there, I'm not sure if he's still around, but I'm sure he'll be able to talk you through your options if you got on the blower/dropped him an email! They didn't have some Warwick parts listed on their website that I wanted, but he was happy to order them in for me.
18. I'm pretty sure that Aguilar supply covers for their cabs? You could give the Bass Merchant a call, they stock a lot of Aggie gear and should be able to help you out one way or the other! I've dealt with them in the past and they're very helpful.
19. Around a year ago I tried to set up an endorsement deal with Rotosound for strings for my band, which consisted of them supplying strings for - - 2 Electric Guitars - 1 Acoustic Guitar - 1 Electric Bass - 1 Electric Mandolin - 1 Electric Fiddle ...and also drumsticks for the drummer. The deal they were offering was absolute pants, it would have actually worked out cheaper to strike a deal with a supplier than to get them direct from the company! So my advice is - don't get ripped off. If you all use the strings religiously, go for it, otherwise you might find that you're stuck promoting something that you don't believe in.
20.
What the hell is seeding a torrent, can anyone do it, and is it considered impolite to do it at the dinner table?
It just basically means that you're hosting the file for others to download.
21.
Thing is, like Kev pointed out in the overpriced listing thread, how could you ever prove it was genuine? I'm sure umpteen million of these things were turned out and it wouldn't surprise me if Fender used different suppliers for screws. So even if there was a way of identifying an early seventies screw there would be no way of knowing if it had ever been near the Fender factory.
That's true, but presuming it was a genuinely identifiable Fender 1973 screw, it'd be a steal! I've seen original neckplates and the like go for £300+, which to me is a justifiable sum for the value they'd impart to a period instrument (although their provenance is a lot easier come by) Danny
22. Great find, they look superb! 2 of those plus a couple of floor mounted lights would be enough for any full band.
23. Slightly OT, but did anyone catch the guy playing it on Sky1's 'Don't Forget The Lyrics' last night? He left out one of the notes about 3 notes into the opening riff, sounded very strange!
24. You can see his point though. Say you had a 1973 Jazz Bass which was all original except for one pickguard screw that you lost back in the day. Technically, this instrument isn't all original, and if you had one more period correct screw then you'd surely be able to advertise it as such. Of course, we can argue the merits of having the bass with exactly the same parts as when it left the Fender factory, but in essence it would be an all-original 1973 Fender Jazz Bass, and therefore could be advertised as one. It's a bargain IMO, if it'll increase the selling price of the bass by £5-600 then a tenner is nowt to pay
