Sounds almost chorused, with a 5th above added in parts - any idea how he achieved this?

I tried one of the new line Hiwatt 200w Bass heads a few months ago in a music shop near me - absolutely superb tone through the matching cab, but I'd imagine that would be forgotten about after lugging the thing to and from gigs! If I had a roadie, I'd probably still be saving to buy it as we speak! And I wasn't aware that Dave Reeves was producing a new Bass head until now, it looks awesome!

Congrats on the deal While we're on the topic of Vintage basses - I don't think I've seen anyone play so many duff notes confidently than the guy demoing the EST96 MM copy that they sell, has anyone seen that video?

Managed to blag a VIP ticket to see them in Belfast a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't a huge fan before seeing them, but what a FANTASTIC live band! Managed to get a pint with Bobby G and Mani afterwards too in the backstage area, top guys!

I think that a few people have over-stepped the mark when expressing their views on the subject matter. By now, we have all realised the wrongs of the Jakebass' actions. I think that any further commenting on the topic would simply serve to escalate the hatred towards a forum member, and this is not a practice that we as a Moderation team condone. Thankfully, the situation has been more-or-less resolved. Those who have generously volunteered to handle the exchange and delivery of the item in question are firmly in contact with each other by now. I assume that those who hold particularly strong opinions on the matter (as expressed on the previous few pages of the thread) are also in private contact with each other, and so this thread simple serves as a public outlet for these negative feelings. This thread has been posted in the 'General Bass Discussion' forum, and will remain here as a guide for Shockwave and others to keep a record of the guitar's progress back to it's new owner. However, there is not much more that can be done to improve the outcome of this situation. As a consequence, this thread has been locked. Lastly, I'd like to extend a very meaningful thanks to all who contributed to the delivery fund. This shows that the community are much more than just a bunch of people who post on this forum. IMO it's just a horrible synth-like mess compared to his earlier tone as heard on Live At Leeds etc (which was fantastic)! But each to their own and all that

[/quote] Interesting approach, I've made a similar leap from 3 band EQ active to passive and keeping my amp options as uncomplicated as possible. There's nothing that can beat a brilliant, simple tone IMO, although I suppose one man's great tone is another man's noise (John Entwistle's sound in his later years springs to mind!)

As with all Fender scratchplates though - you may find that the screw hole positions are slightly different as models are updated/upgraded over the years, if you're worried then getting one custom made might be an option to consider!

Everyone has their own brand bias - justifiable or not. Isn't that what discussion forums are for?

It's always a nice thing when your favourite players turn out to be genuinely decent guys.

They definitely do have a lot of work to do if they are to be held in the same stead as companies such as Trace and Ampeg, but FWIW I do have a lot of love for their amplifiers (that I've tried anyway)

I hope all of this criticism can be justified when the amp is released. Remember that Mark Gooday had a hand in designing Trace Elliot amps when they were made in the UK, and remember the big 8xKT88 amp that they made? If it's anything like the V8, Ashdown will have taken a step forward. I know that most of their business comes from the fact that they have a mountain of endorsees in the UK, but my EVOII 2x10 combo does sound brilliant nonetheless despite my non-pro status!

I believe he also used an Ibanez 4001 copy for some of their stuff? Top quality bassist, really underrated.

Very interesting! Is there really any point in having tuning pegs on them at all I wonder? The one with the metallic green/blue finish looks gorgeous, I don't think I'd venture out on stage with one though for fear of being confused with a member of Spinal Tap or something.

I'd probably choose one of those Alembics with the multitude of knobs and switches - that way, if I was stuck on a desert island, I'd DEFINITELY have the time to figure it out properly!

I was a little wary of putting flatwounds on my SSII at first too, because I thought (probably the same as you) that it would detract somewhat from the growly, bright characteristics that most Warwicks are known for. However, I put on a set of Thomastik flats and was pleasantly surprised. The tension was a lot higher though, so a little adjusting of the truss rod was needed to maintain the same action. The sound was great, totally different to the sort you get with roundwounds, very vintage! I'd highly recommend putting them on your Fortress if you're after a 50's/60's style sound. Let us know what you decide to do either way

Someone (I'm not sure who) once said that [i]Jazz is one of the few genres where the people playing it enjoy themselves more than the people listening to it[/i] From my time playing in a free improv Jazz ensemble, I tend to agree. It is truly great fun, but I wouldn't like to be on the other side of the PA speakers! That was however extremely experimental music, I know there are a lot more structured and listenable forms out there!

I got the album last week from the internet and was largely disappointed (as discussed in another thread somewhere on here!). I'd never heard his music before, and decided to give it a listen after many good reviews on BC, but sadly the first track on the album is the only one I'd go back to. I'm not normally a fan of Jazz-tinged music though, so perhaps I jumped in at the deep end! Oh well, horses for courses I suppose
