1. That's terrible news. I noticed he hadn't be around for a while, he was a great character back in the BW days. RIP
 2. I'm very impressed with mine for the price. I just stick a new set on before every gig and they sound as good as any other brand IMO!
 3. It's one of the solid state models, not the more expensive valve ones. £80 is still a great price for it though, if it doesn't rise much higher than that then you're getting an absolute bargain!
 4. That Brian Fox video is HILARIOUS! He looks more like Anthony Kiedis after a few pies. Regarding your bass solo - I've listened to your bands a lot on Youtube and the like, WoT, and know that a bass solo seems like quite an epic prospect for someone coming from a folk-rock background (hope I haven't pigeonholed your style too much with that comment) I've been presented with a similar challenge in the past and found that listening to some Jethro Tull and Fairport Convention live stuff helped me a lot. My suggestion would be to learn the chord progression as arpeggios, add in the passing tones between the chords in whatever key you're playing in, and add/subtract from there. Double stops are definitely your friend too! Hope this helps, there's been some great advice in the thread so far, I'm just augmenting it (pun very much intended ) Danny
 5. Are your speakers passive? If they are, I'd recommend actives - although they are slightly heavier due to the inbuilt amplifier, it saves you bringing seperate amp racks and so there's a lot less lifting overall! You can actually get really decent active speakers nowadays too which makes this switch a whole lot more attractive. EDIT - just as a reference, my band uses THESE for most of our live gigs, and the sound is unbelievable! Granted, they're a bit on the expensive side but when you're buying seperate amps for subs, tops and mids normally - you're saving a lot less overall.
 6. I kinda wish I'd kept my first ever bass (a 3/4 scale Encore P Bass copy) just for sentimental reasons. It sounded absolutely brutal, and looked like something you'd buy out of a toy shop, but if it weren't for that little piece of wood I wouldn't be where I am today!
 7. I haven't read the article yet, but I've always subscribed to the theory that tone comes from the player and not the bass! Cheers for the link
 8. I played one of those Squier Jazz Basses in Walnut Satin last year, and if the one advertised here is anywhere near as good as the one I played, it's an absolute bargain!
 9.
Tone-wise you won't notice any difference.
Actually I think that some people might experience a slight difference in tone. My Jazz (w/Badass) seemed to become a whole lot more punchier when I upgraded from the original bridge. Maybe it's all in my head, but I'm a lot happier overall now

 11.
I loved that bass but you could only do yes stuff with it and the band i was in hated it, they liked my thunderbird or precision better.
I always consider this when admiring someone's tone. For example, people like Chris Squire and Bruce Foxton get some really great sounds from their 4001s, but in a Blues Rock band or orchestra pit, could you get away with it? I love hearing them, and I'd love to be able to make my setup sound like that, but I'm not sure other musicians would appreciate the cut-throatedness as much as I would! Probably end up having to start a Yes/Jam tribute band called The Brixton Roundabout or something along those lines
 12. I think the main riff has two alternating bass parts, both of which revolve around the D/Bm/A/G chords in key of D. The first one (to my ear) goes something like - |---------------------------------| |------------------------------2--| |-5-5---2--2----0-0------0-2--2---| |----------------------3----------| And the second - |---------------------------------| |------------------------------0--| |-5-5---2--2----0-0------0-2--2-2-| |----------------------3----------| Aside from that, a few little variations are thrown in to make it a little more interesting! Hope this helps
 13. Organise a weekly (or twice-weekly) practice session which suits all band members. That way, it will become part of everyone's routine, and no excuses will be accepted! To be honest though - if you feel that your fellow band members are cancelling due to a lack of commitment, there will be frustrating times ahead unless you have a serious conversation regarding the band's future. There are too many great bassists in this world stagnating in under-committed bands.
 14. The bass is now on hold, sale imminent! Thanks to all who showed interest
 15.
very nice bass. i wish my car wasn't in the garage getting repaired cos otherwise ide buy it. Does Dirk Lance (ex incubus) use he 5 string version of this??
One of the reasons I bought it Great player
 16. Hello again all, Just to confirm - the cost is £700 but that doesn't include shipping, which to most mainland UK destinations will be around £30 (insured up to £1000). I prefer payment by personal cheque. I do however use PayPal, but would like to arrange a split of costs if you prefer to pay that way! Thanks for all the interest so far, and I hope someone will get lucky soon! Danny
 17. Up for sale is my beloved Warwick Streamer Stage 2. It's a German Made one built in 1997. The specs are as follows -

Afzelia Body
Wenge Neck
Neck Thru Design
24 frets
Wenge Fingerboard with Yin Yang Inlay
Scale Length 34"
Active MEC J/J Pickups
Active MEC 3 Band Electronics
Warwick Tuners
2 piece Warwick Bridge
Warwick Just-A-Nut I
Jim Dunlop recessed straplocks
Finish - Natural Oil
She's a veteran of many live gigs, but has always been kept safely in it's hardcase (which I'm including). I've also waxed it regularly with the supplied beeswax to maintain the quality of the finish! There are a couple of small dings on the back of the bass, caused by my belt buckle, but they in no way affect the playability of this great instrument and cannot be seen while playing! I can send pictures of these on request. The bass does appear a little darker in real life than in the pictures, due to the camera flash. The bass will be shipped via courier in a full flightcase, along with a tin of Warwick wax, adjusting tools and a new set of roundwound strings. Any of you Warwick heads will know that this is one of their higher end instruments, just below the Custom Shop lines in terms of quality and craftsmanship. £700 o.n.o Will also consider trades for quality fretted 4 string basses. Any questions - please feel free to PM me! Thanks for looking, Danny
 18. You all are being too hard on poor Sally. It's funky!
 19. I think most people on here would recommend Bassic Cables (made by our very own OBBM). They're handmade to your specifications and are extremely reliable. As for headphones - I've been using AKG K-55s to practice with now for over a year and they've been consistently great. The low frequencies don't lose any oomph which is a definite necessity for most bassists I'd imagine! Hope this helps, Danny
 20. If I can recall correctly, it goes something like this - Eb Eb Eb Eb Eb (in that Bo Diddley beat style rhythm interlocked with drums) ...then it has a little run in the last repetition, just before the vocals come in as you say that goes something like this - Eb Eb Eb G G# A# then back to the Eb! Hope this helps
 21. I've seen these for sale in Urban Outfitters and I was very intrigued by their uses! Might consider picking one up myself if someone on here can give a positive recommendation Danny
 22. I've never taken a spare bass or amp to a gig, it's just extra hassle really! A more useful option would be to take some basic tools (soldering iron, pliers, screwdriver etc) and if something goes wrong you have most of your bases covered, bar a freak accident! As has been said above, you can always just DI to the PA if your amp fails too.
 23. Always get your drummer to count into a song, be it on sticks or just in the air with mimed numbers. Always let the drummer decide when to end a song. Watch him very carefully for that final cymbal crash to wrap the song up! Wedge a spare plectrum loosely in between the scratchplate and body (if your bass has a pickguard that is) for those dropping moments When soundchecking, play as hard as you can so the soundman can set your channel to a gain level that won't distort later in the set (when most players naturally dig in more) Also regarding soundcheck - play your open strings one at a time in a drone fashion before starting on a noodley line, this makes it much easier for the soundman to set his EQ's When other band members ask you to turn down on stage, a slight attenuation of the bass knob frequencies will often fool him into thinking you have
 24.
I was asking because I have a theory that Ashdowns rep for wooliness is due to their 1x15 cabs.
Too true. My ABM 2x10 combo doesn't suffer from this at all thankfully!
