I've had them ship to me in Northern Ireland, and although it costs a little more they do deliver quite fast. Their customer service is also good should you have any problems! Danny

Probably something to do with the source codes?

Normally auditions for this kinda thing would involve you playing a piece of your own as well as a piece they give you. Can you sight read music? I know when I auditioned for a Big Band around 6 months ago, they just handed me a piece of music and asked me to play it a couple of minutes later. I'd imagine that for any kind of large ensemble, the ability to sight read is always an advantage anyway! If you can do that proficiently as well as having a high standard of technical ability then you should have no problems! Good luck with the audition and let us know how you do! Danny

As long as you have enough power available from your head, there should be no problem using a Trace cabinet alongside a Hartke one! Let us know how you get on Danny
tbf if i do need to sand the whole headstock, il probably just do the front n sides and leave the back, so that i dont have to worry bout matchin it perfectly
If you're gonna sand the headstock and refinish it, you may as well do the back of the neck too IMO to make it more professional looking. Just remember to apply 3 or 4 layers of lacquer evenly with a light steel wool application between coats and you should end up with a nice finish.

There's a really nice t-shirt in DV8 at the moment featuring a number of effects pedals on the front of it, all connected in series. Might be one for you effects heads to check out?

Just suggest some tunes from the 'Genericana' genre, ie Green Onions, Stormy Monday, The Thrill Is Gone and so on. Perfectly good to jam to, and well known enough so as to attract a crowd.

Alternatively, you could buy a USA head and step down transformer to use it in the UK. Another piece of equipment to carry to gigs of course, but you could still make a substantial saving on the cost of buying the same head in the UK.

That's a very obscure setlist for a house band that plays rock and blues! The only tunes I could make a stab at without practicing would be Southern Man, Sitting On Top Of The World and Dixie Chicken. The rest -

I believe it's - G:------------------------------ D:-----------------------4--5--- A:5--x5-2-x3-x2-0--------------- E:------------------0--2--3----- The x's standing for muted notes which just come right before the actual note (ghost notes almost?) So that'd be D B C B A ....from the D you talk about. Hope this helps! Danny

I'd love one too but that one seems a little too bruised for my tastes. That, plus the $250 shipping to the UK! Could still end up a bargain as you say though.

Hello all, Does anyone here have personal business cards for their bass playing skills? The reason I've been thinking about this is because I've bumped into a number of musical celebrities in the last week (Shayne Ward, Gary Lightbody, Michael Schenker to name but a few!) and thought it'd be good to give them a business card if they ever needed a bass player for live or studio work. I realise this might be a little unrealistic to expect a phone call from one of these guys, but it wouldn't hurt to give them one! What do you all think? Would they be a worthy investment? Thanks! Danny

Hartke HA3500 and VX 4x10 GONE GONE GONE

It sounds to me like a Fender Precision played with right hand muting?

I'd love a matching Strat and Tele for those guitar noodling moments, probably Olympic White with Maple Necks and Brown Tortoiseshell guards. All through a nice modern valve amp like a DeVille or Peavey Classic 30! Oh the GAS....

That string cleaner stuff (Fast Fret is it?) - it just makes the strings feel really greasy to me. I prefer a rougher string for grip purposes personally!

It's an extremely simple job to replace your pickups if you're familiar with a soldering iron. Just unscrew your old pickups, de-solder the joint and connect the same wire to your new pickup and screw it in. 5 minutes work! As for your string predicament - have you tried using a lighter gauge? Some players like using strings as light as 95-35 gauge, which (by and large) feel looser and require a softer touch from your picking hand. Hope this helps! Danny
what would be the best option?
Are the two Trace Elliots you mentioned combos, or just simply amplifier heads? I tried the GP12 SMX combo last year and it sounded brilliant - although it did weigh a ton! I'd highly recommend it as a preamp if it sounds anything like the combo I tried.
Are their any other wicked amps any of you can recommend for a reasonable price?
If you like the Trace sound, you might want to have a look at some of the older Ashdown gear, such as the earlier ABM range. Mark Gooday (founded of Ashdown) was Trace Elliot's Managing Director for some time, so some of the same technical expertise is present in both brands. The newer Ashdown models are notorious for having reliability issues though, so if you're looking at buying one, I'd definitely try to get one made as close to 1997 as possible. Hope this helps! Danny

Some of the sections of that song would be nigh on impossible to play without using his trademark double thumbing technique! There are a few good instructional videos on his website that give a run through of some of his skills - Here It Is Hope this helps, and good luck!

Have you thought about using a couple of toolboxes as a replacement? The keys player in my band uses Stanley aluminium ones with the internal toolbox trays removed, they look the part and do their job very well!

It's a shame that someone had their dream bass built to their specifications, and is now selling it to fund another bout of GAS. Are we bassists never happy?
An interesting point, Funkydunc. I too went 4 to 5 to 4. Now I'm trying 6! Is it that the grass is always greener on the other side? My main observation so far, is this. Having more than 4 strings is more fun when twiddling at home on your own, but come the gig, the number of strings is less important than the on-the-spot response to the rest of the band and audience, Same goes with gear. Play at home with gadgets and have fun, but on the night, keep it simple. I know what you mean by 'freedom'. I call it Expression. When you can actually hear on stage all that you are playing, especially the subtle things, you start to want to go for 'feel' and improvising spontaneously. I know, I know, it's nowt to do with the number of strings. BUT I can't help link Simplicity with Soul. i.e. the more stripped down things are, the more you want to get out of what you are left with. I'll quit there, because I'm sounding like a tw*t
+1. This really makes sense to me. I've seen so many bassists in the past go over the top and lose the true essence of the music.

That thread makes for great reading - a lot of player vs instrument debates and the like. Personally I agree that without Jaco playing it, it's really only another bass guitar. It will however take pride of place in a Hard Rock Cafe somewhere undoubtedly!
