1. The current QOTSA bassist uses one of these, at least he did whenever I saw them on tour during the Summer, I think he also uses it in their latest video. So....FREE BUMP! Great price!
2. 1. Jaco Pastorius - No way mate. You couldn't survive in the sort of band I want to be in. 2. Victor Wooten - See No.1 3. Billy Sheehan - See No.1 (well, MAYBE an exception for this guy) 4. Jaco Pastorius - See No.1 5. Mark Hoppus - you can sign up for benefits at a lot of places, Mark
3. I have exactly the same after my 5 hour busking session on Saturday (see other thread) Not as bad as the end of Summer though - 3 gigs on consecutive nights after I'd been out of practice for a while, by the third night it really, REALLY hurt!
4. I'm GASsing right now for a Bongo HS, I just love the look of that particular model, and the playability of the model itself is extremely comfortable. +1 on whoever recommended the Flea Bass too though!
5.
+100 I've been doing it regularly and you get so much respect from pussy guitarists and bitchboy horn section players who think you are so "hardcore" , bless 'em.
Just make sure the glue is non-toxic otherwise you're gonna be out of action for a LONG time with blood poisoning!
6.
it's not really worth it, if you want a bass for 70 quid then just get one from thomann http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbp120bk_ebass.htm same price, much more respectable company, they're actually alright basses too.
+1. I used the HB Jazz Copy yesterday to go busking, and while it didn't sound anywhere near as good as my Warwick, it really surprised me with it's playability, and the tone was acceptable for something that costs little more than a couple of nights out on the town.
7. Hello all, I'm going busking tomorrow as part of a 'Buskathon' in my town, commemorating the death of a local busker who passed away last Saturday. It'll be myself and a few friends playing some rock classics, similar to the stuff you'd hear in a pub. So anyway - Is there anything I should or shouldn't do before I go? I'll be using an amp (at a low level) and a cheapo Harley Benton bass to be heard over the acoustic guitars. I'm a little concerned that it may rain though, are there any precautions I should take? Thanks in advance guys! Danny
8. I used them for a long time and was very happy with them before moving completely to flatwounds. I don't think it was the Prosteels in particular (more roundwound strings in general) but I always found that the D and G strings had a different tone to the other two. They're relatively inexpensive, so it may be worth picking up a set to see if you like them, and if not, it's a lesson learned for not too much cash?
9. It's just such a simple and great sounding bass - if you try and improve upon it, you just overcomplicate it and remove the very essence which makes it great - simplicity! Always one of my favourite basses.
10. Hello all, Not really 'Amps and Cabinets' material but I figured this is probably the place best suited to my question! It's a simple question, so hopefully someone can help me out! I'm buying a multicore snake to connect my band's mics, DI's etc etc to the desk, probably 30m in length, and I'm looking at a 16/4 version (ie 16 sends and 4 returns) My question is this - would 4 returns be enough for an average band or would I need more? It would be used to feed 2 powered tops and 2 powered subs as well as a couple of powered monitors, and although maths is not my speciality I believe this would require 6 returns? Or am I wrong? Can I roll with the 16/4 and get some sort of signal splitter on stage to feed all 4 FOH speakers from the same return? Or is there a simpler solution? I hope I've made myself clear! Thanks for reading, Danny
11.
Are there any issues with `delay` between what you play and what you hear? also is `latency`an issue or is that the same problem I`ve just asked ?
Yes, latency refers to the time it takes for your playing to be heard. The lower the better obviously! I'm also contemplating buying something similar to what you've asked for so will be watching this thread with great interest.

13. You LUCKY LUCKY man! I'd absolutely love to play a gig with a Who tribute band. You'll have a great time of it, their music is so energetic when played live. I suggest you take a look at some of their live videos on Youtube etc, from the Isle Of Wight Festival, Woodstock etc etc, that'll give you an idea of the pure power of the music you'll be playing. Best of luck mate - enjoy every minute of it! JEALOUS Danny PS - watch the drummer VERY closely!
14.
The bass drum idea is a good one but our drummer uses a digital kit.
You LUCKY, LUCKY man! I wish my drummer would use one of those!
15.
True, The album Its Hard by a band called The Who springs to mind.
Haha, never a truer statement! I don't like a single tune off that album and I'm a huge Who fan too.
16. I love The Who. That performance of WGFA is (in my opinion) one of the greatest rock songs performed by one of the greatest bands ever. And the bass playing is just phenomenal! Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions, I know there are a hell of a lot of Who fans on here who'd agree with my 2 cents!
17. Xanadu Freewill La Villa Strangiato YYZ Red Barchetta Tom Sawyer Spirit Of Radio Working Man ...all spring to mind. Fantastic tunes! Anything off Exit Stage Left is required listening too IMO! Enjoy your Rush experience - it was so much fun getting into them, hopefully you'll feel the same!
18. Which mic are you using? Is the pickup pattern cardioid, supercardioid or something else? It's quite possible that if you place the wedge directly in front of the microphone stand that the mic will pick up some of the monitor feed. I know this has been the case for me in the past when using supercardioids, as the pickup pattern was as below: Is this of any help? Apart from that I can only really suggest a problem with a cable somewhere along the line, or perhaps the monitors themselves are to blame? Danny
19. Gerry McAvoy Rod deAth ...of the Rory Gallagher band. Tight, funky and a great basis for Rory to lay down his lines!
20.
The Who
+1
21. Hello all, I'm passing on this message for a friend of mine, hopefully there are some Rick users on here who can help - "I recently have got my hands on a rickenbacker 4003 series bass. It plays like a dream and sounds good but it seems to be missing a kick. I used to have an active bass and I know that they are generally pack a harder punch than most basses but this rickenbacker is really losing a lot. I have the input and output up on my ashdown amp to nearly double what I used to have it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to maybe get a bigger sound out of it. Any pedal ideas, such as EQ's etc..." So what do all you guys do? I know it's normally true that active basses are hotter than passive ones - does anyone on here use both a Rick and an active bass? How do you balance the outputs? Cheers guys! Danny
22. I've played support to The Drifters ('There Goes My Baby', 'Under The Boardwalk' etc). Nice guys, great voices! I've also played with the original members of Folk Rock band Horslips. That's my 2 cents!
23. I'm not sure it would be as resonant or robust as a body made from say Alder or Ash, but if it sounds good to your ears - then it's a good tonewood!
24. I'm pretty sure someone on here owns a H+S bass actually. I looked at them myself, they certainly seem very good value even if they are just planks of wood - if you don't like it you could always use the parts for a custom job as you say!
25. You can buy a non-Fender bridge cover that fits over a BadAssII bridge comfortably, they used to sell it on basspartsresource.com but it appears that they don't stock it anymore. Perhaps worth investigating? I'm not sure of the manufacturer but I know they're definitely for sale out there somewhere!
