1. Gerry McAvoy Rod deAth ...of the Rory Gallagher band. Tight, funky and a great basis for Rory to lay down his lines!

3. Hello all, I'm passing on this message for a friend of mine, hopefully there are some Rick users on here who can help - "I recently have got my hands on a rickenbacker 4003 series bass. It plays like a dream and sounds good but it seems to be missing a kick. I used to have an active bass and I know that they are generally pack a harder punch than most basses but this rickenbacker is really losing a lot. I have the input and output up on my ashdown amp to nearly double what I used to have it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to maybe get a bigger sound out of it. Any pedal ideas, such as EQ's etc..." So what do all you guys do? I know it's normally true that active basses are hotter than passive ones - does anyone on here use both a Rick and an active bass? How do you balance the outputs? Cheers guys! Danny
4. I've played support to The Drifters ('There Goes My Baby', 'Under The Boardwalk' etc). Nice guys, great voices! I've also played with the original members of Folk Rock band Horslips. That's my 2 cents!
5. I'm not sure it would be as resonant or robust as a body made from say Alder or Ash, but if it sounds good to your ears - then it's a good tonewood!
6. I'm pretty sure someone on here owns a H+S bass actually. I looked at them myself, they certainly seem very good value even if they are just planks of wood - if you don't like it you could always use the parts for a custom job as you say!
7. You can buy a non-Fender bridge cover that fits over a BadAssII bridge comfortably, they used to sell it on basspartsresource.com but it appears that they don't stock it anymore. Perhaps worth investigating? I'm not sure of the manufacturer but I know they're definitely for sale out there somewhere!
8. RoqSolid do a large selection of quality padded vinyl covers, I had a couple for my Ampeg cabinets. They also do custom orders if you send them the dimensions. Hope this helps
9. Some great advice in this thread guys! I've been contemplating swapping out the MECs in my Warwick for something a little different, although the sound I get at the moment is pretty good ever since I put a set of flatwounds on. I think that the stock setup of most Warwicks leads to a very middle-y sound (growl if you will). Normally a little bass boost on the preamp fills out the sound to my desired level.
10. This makes me ILL watching it! They are SO good!
11. I use Dunlop Tortex 0.73mm picks, they do the job just fine! I just played a full show using a pick for the first time last week and didn't have any problems with it. The sound was great!
12. After struggling with my EQ set up for a few months in my band, I've reverted to setting my EQ on bass and amp totally flat. I'm not sure what it is, but it seems to sound the best!
13.
Did Ampeg's first bass guitar model predate the Fender Precision?
No, this model was probably made around 1966, and the first Fender Precision was made around 1951 (as far as I know)
14. I'm also very interested to hear people's opinions on this - I was thinking of upgrading the preamp and pickups on my '97 Stage II to get a bit more oomph out of what is already a great bass. Did the EMG's make much of a difference on your Stage II, warwickhunt? They'd be my preferred pickup if I ever did upgrade I think. Cheers!
15. I'm 20 and play only 4 stringers I'm quite a busy player but always have groove at the forefront of my mind. My role model is John Entwistle, specifically from 1965 to 1978, as I don't care much for his style or tone from the 80's onwards (all that tapping and synthy stuff) I like to think I'm quite a melodic player too and know my fair share of music theory to this effect! So....that's me really!
16. If that Olympic White Precision had have come up for sale this time last week, I'd have had it in a flash! Lovely bass! Best of luck with the sale
17. I'd just advice playing with the tone knob on your P up full, and with a lot of high mids and treble on the amp. That punky tone is all about the high end, and it's really hard to beat a Precision Bass to replicate it.
18. Hello all, Simple question really - does the Badass III bridge (which comes with the saddles preslotted) fit onto any Fender body? I know the Badass III has 3 mounting holes, whereas the normal Fender bridge has 5. Will this make a difference, and does anyone currently use one on any of their Fenders? Cheers guys, Danny
19. AFAIK it's because all bridges have serial numbers on them, which the owner can use to order whatever parts he/she wants from EB.
20. John Entwistle used an 8 string bass on occasion, two songs which I can remember offhand are - You (off Faces Dances) Trick Of The Light (off Who Are You) I *think* he used one for the intro of 'Success Story' too, but I'm not sure about this. Great sound anyway Hope this helps! Danny
21. One of the best Fenders in production IMO. A great bass! Best of luck with it
22. AFAIK the guy has stopped making guitars and basses as custom orders. He just makes them now as a hobby and sells them when he's done. Luke Ward has one I believe, a Precision Bass, you can spy him on the Bravewood site with it if you look hard enough! I'd love one too myself, but sadly when I got in contact with them I was given the bad news!
23. I had this same problem with Internet Explorer 7, on this site and others. Firefox is normal though, hence my change of browser!
