My New Band!

Hi guys, After many years of playing as a paid musician in wedding, function and cover bands, I finally took the plunge and started my own band! Not sure how many of you are based in Ireland/Northern Ireland, but even if you're not, we'd r(eally appreciate it if you could 'LIKE' our page on Facebook! Hoping to generate a little bit of interest and hopefully a few of you would be interested in the trials and tribulations of starting a band, which we will be keeping everyone up to date on! Link is in my signature - a virtual beer awaits for all who join us Many thanks Danny
2. Looking into getting one of these bad boys for my Jazz bass. What's the best set of pickups to pair with one? I currently have a set of WIzard 64's and feel I might need something a little more modern sounding to match the capabilities of the J-Retro. Anyone have any recommendations? I've heard good things about the Delanos (JC Series) although am open to all suggestions. Thanks
3. If you live in or near Nottingham, check this out - http://uk.music-jobs.com/jobsboard_detail.php?job_uid=24981009&au=1020727&ah=f133345f&ux=1330017781&utm_source=Our%2BSite&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=JobAlert Great opportunity for the right bassist! Hope this is of use to someone. Danny
4. He's doing his stand-up routine in Belfast at lunchtime today (Friday) - really looking forward to it! Anyone else going? Shall report back with a review later
5. I think his recordings on the 'Songs From The Wood' album were done with a Music Man - not sure if Sting Ray or Sterling though!
6. +1 here for La Bella flats. I have them on a fretted Jazz and a fretless P/J bass and they sound amazing on both, I especially love the thud with the neck pickup solo'ed, very Motown-esque.

8. I usually play - G|--10--3--6--5--| D|--11--4--8--6--| A|---------------| E|---------------| ...repeated twice. Sounds good to my ears, just basically three major double-stop chords and one minor.
9. Great player, love his Bullfrog Blues solo which has become the stuff of legend! Warm, fuzzy Precision Bass tone at it's best
10. He still plays 5 strings now in the studio - I'm not sure what model but I've heard some of his recent recordings, and there's loads of low B in there!
11. A few of my mates were given tickets by Pino himself, but they're not even sure what to expect - I mean, it's Pino's gig and he's hardly a band leader?
12. Hmm - how bad can they be for the money? If you got a gig or two out of them, they'd probably pay for themselves. Might buy a few sets to test them, let us know how you get on!
13. Always Satin Nitrocellulose for me! I would have every one of my basses refinished this way if I could afford to. They say there's something about nitro which allows wood to 'breathe' or something, but for me, I just love the way the paintwork ages.
14. To this day, I regret selling my Warwick Streamer Stage II to Frank (machinehead of this parish). It's good to know that it's local and being treated well, though!
15. Is there a widely-available series/parallel switch mod? Or is this something that only an electronics expert can do?
16. I have a feeling it's something to do with the supposed supply issues of Neodymium, which has hiked the price of speakers up and made them less available. I think there's some in stock in the European stores though if that was an option for you? They work out around the same price as UK stores.
17. My manager is good friends with Louis Walsh, and apparently one of McElderry's plans for when he finished the pop-star to opera-star thing was to go on a tour of Ireland, which I would be involved with. Try not to make the basslines too complex, WoT
18. Dave - that's a very kind offer, PM coming your way bud.
19. Ah the wonders of Basschat
20. I think this thread would be better appreciated in the 'Gear Porn' subforum - some great gear by the way!
21. Had an update today from the luthier! I went for the darkest possible ebony board, so that I won't require staining. I don't mind seeing a little of the grain as it will give it a bit of character, to my eyes anyway! He has also received a brown tort scratchplate and bone nut. The old fingerboard has been removed and the new ebony one glued on. Work cannot recommence for at least 24 hours to make sure there is a sufficient bond between neck and fingerboard. Pics to follow! I have decided to go for a flatter fingerboard radius also, 16" instead of the 12" of the original. Next step is to wait for the glue to set, then radiusing can begin as well as fine sanding and polishing. Next step - a pickup route for the new bridge pickup. Coming along nicely so far! Danny
22.
He's just one of those guys that has a broad range of abilities and can nail a gig. People like Dizzy don't really want to book the Wooten's, Caron's and Manrings of this world. They want solid professional musicians not circus acts. Good reading, good time etc. No need for acrobatics. That's why Pino is up there. Why book a great soloist if the bass is never going to play a solo? Had a Bailey solo cd. Listened to it once or twice and then used it to catch dust for a decade before selling it on. Great sideman, not a great writer or leader. Great player, weak ideas....
+1000 to all of this! Very close to my own feeling about Wooten etc. I'd rather have Pino play a bassline down the phone than have VW in the studio if I were a producer.
23. Hi guys, The time has come to make a few minor adjustments to the saddle height on my Squier CV Jazz Bass - however I don't have the correct allen key and will have to order one. Does anyone know what size key (metric or imperial) fits the saddle adjustment on the Classic Vibe Hi-Mass bridge? I have sent an email to Squier but can't imagine they'll reply in a hurry, so thought someone on here might have the answer. Many thanks in advance, Danny
24. Hmm - the one about having the cabinet squarely on the floor at all times, I'm not sure about. There are definite advantages of tilting back a cabinet, as well as raising it off the ground closer to ear level.
