Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2 900w lightweight head FS

Hi all Up for sale is a mint condition Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2 900w lightweight amp head. This is a very popular head among forumites and I purchased mine from another member a few months ago (whose name escapes me!) 900w @ 4ohms, 500w @ 8ohms This head has a valve in the preamp that sounds simply lush - really beautiful warmth to the tone with the valve gain utilised, and the EQ section is super versatile. I can dial in all sorts of tones with it, from a nice bright zing for my Stingray right through to a midrange thumpo for my fretless Precision. I have never had to have the master up past 11 o clock with my Barefaced cabinet - this head has headroom in spades! Also sounds equally great at lower volumes. Not in a hurry to sell this although my reason for sale is that my current work requires in ear monitors, and so my backline is sadly redundant. Such a shame to let a monster setup go, but I fancy some custom in-ear moulds and they aren't cheap Payment by Paypal or bank transfer (preferred to avoid fees!) - asking £400 which includes a snug padded gig bag (shown in picture, not GB official one though), and postage by courier. PM me for more info Cheers

Very interested to hear your opinions on how this compares with the GB, especially volume-wise!
There's a bit of demand for this, so I thought I might as well kick it off. C'mon you Limelighters... get involved! (Note: If the 'F' logos upset you, I respectfully ask that you start your own thread, or write a strongly-worded letter to the Daily Mail.) Here's my '63 relic: http://basschat.co.u...zz-medium-relic
Beautiful bass, Michael. Is it getting the playing time up against your vintage Fenders?

George Ezra - Budapest Ed Sheeran - Sing Sam Smith - Stay With Me Paloma Faith - Only Love Can Hurt Like This Not the most lively selection but definitely recognisable

Hi all, Anyone on here use one of the above? Got some serious GAS for one but haven't played one in the flesh (although I will get the chance in a few weeks) Are they worth £1600 or would I be better going for a Lakland/D Lakin/Sadowsky? Active not a necessity - I favour passive basses anyway. The Fenders are real beauties though! All opinions valued Danny
Hate to bring up old threads, but for my own ego I thought I would. We've just been offered a 4 month cruise on Princess, leaving LA and down the east coast to Mexico starting in Jan! Over the moon. So to anyone trying, you can do it! I never ever thought I'd be able to play music for a living but it is possible. Keep working hard and it'll come.
Congrats! I know a guy who does FOH sound for Princess - he's from Northern Ireland so if you hear the accent you'll know he's the guy!

My gig with Mark Knopfler... now with video!

Brilliant! Well done buddy! -
John Glascock for me, class player! Love his playing on SFTW. Again another one taken from us too early!
-
Best of good health to you, Howard! The scratchplate you made me is a fine bit of work and I hope you can continue doing what you love at some point in future.
Ah.. I see where the confusion has come from! What I meant is that the neck pickup AND tone are backed off. Same for the bridge pup. I'll re-do the clip and update it later. :-)
Thanks for confirming! No need to go to that trouble - I read it wrong! Top sounds either way
I made some sound clips. (Disclaimer: I'm just a dabbler when it comes to home recording)
Michael - lovely sounds - am I right in saying that the Bridge pickup and Neck pickup are noted the wrong way around?
-
Would you all say that the TI's have a looser tension than the La Bella DTFs? Considering putting a set on one of my Precision basses - currently have DTFs on two Jazz Basses and sometimes find the tension a bit heavy.
-
Did you buy the neck undrilled?

I bought a Stingray recently (albeit an OLP version) and modded it to include a Nordstrand MM 4.2 pickup and a John East MM 2 Band preamp. I must admit - having come from a Fender background, the tone has taken a bit of getting used to. I'm very much a 'plug and play' bass player and usually just have my amp EQ set totally flat, and the tone/volume controls on a bass maxed. However, I've had to take a very different approach to playing with a Stingray. I find the midrange of the Stingray quite unmusical - I suppose this is to be expected by having a humbucker at the bridge position. I have had to cut the mids considerably on the amp, as well as back off on the bass boost control onboard, but have found a lovely sweet tone which fits perfectly in the soul band I play in. It has justified it's purchase thankfully!
Nowt wrong with a Lakland! Hi IBWT I've lived in Belfast for about 10 yrs but now in Edinburgh. You'll enjoy Belfast and for good food (and now beer) go to BubbaQue and bask in their slow cooked meaty delights.
Oh God yes! Sugar Rays in Dundonald also great on a similar theme!
Hello IBWT - Pleasure to meet you here. For some lovely low end rumblings get yourself down to The Empire on a Tuesday night for Mr. Conor McCreanor and to The John Hewitt on a Thursday night for Mr. Trevor Dyer - two absolutely wonderful bass players and fine gentlemen indeed.
Does Trev still do that gig on a Thursday Gareth? Must get down some night! +1 for the Tuesday slot at the Empire too - great stuff.

Great guys thanks for the advice! I've only heard good things so far and seems to have all of the right faculties for my type of sound! Will see if I can try one pronto. Lozz - what did you replace yours with and why?
-
Hi all Anyone had any experience with these? Mighty impressed by the specs and the simplicity of the tone controls - unfortunately I don't do the graphic EQ thing! I play blues, rock and pop and favour a warm, thumping tone so I think the valves would be a nice touch. Danny
-
They are truly wonderful cabs - I am really looking forward to my next gig to hear some more of mine!
-
Congratulaions Danny. I'd love to hear your new cab at a gig. Are you playing around Belfast much these days? Frank.
Yes Frank quite a bit - PM me your mobile number and I will send you a few gigs through - would be good to see you sometime, also you're welcome to try the cab any time you like
So! I gigged this beast. Aaaand ... wow, I think this is the cab I've been looking for all these years! It has power in absolute spades - it was a smallish pub so I ran the amp through only the 4ohm Super 12T, the Compact was there to give the other cab height but wasn't plugged in. Still, the amp had more headroom than I would ever need (so through both cabs would be ...even more!!!) The sound itself is very punchy - it's great. So easy to change the sound with the simple controls - low mid, mid etc... and if I needed thunderous bottom end then the sub bass control added ridiculous amounts of it if needed. The sound itself is fairly "old school", particularly if you crank up the drive on the preamp tube, which I don't really do. Still I felt I was coming through loud and clear even up at the dusty end and I had a really great night because of it. I would really recommend this amp to anyone! Can't comment on the BX series - 3 EQ stages is a bit mush for me - but I expect them to be great too. If you're on the fence ... go for it!
Good food for thought there - thanks! Considering B1000 to power my BF Big Baby 2. Looks the business!

Hi all, Just took delivery this week of a Barefaced Big Baby 2! First impressions when I signed for the delivery - SUCH a light box despite being huge! Opened it up and it was very well packaged. Build quality - very good. The tolex covering seems as if it would withstand a nuclear war. I went for the cloth grille which of course is maybe not as sturdy long-term compared to the metal grille, but I knew this before ordering. The cloth has a beautiful silver sparkle to it - proper vintage. I intend to write a full sonic review of it when I've used it a bit more in a live context, but I used it last night at a gig for the first time and it sounded absolutely superb! Very smooth, consistent tone right from low E to 19th fret on the G string. I left my amp settings completely flat and it did not need any boost or cut whatsoever. I could tell that it was not struggling whatsoever even when I dug in, and even with 350w pumping through it, and I am led to believe it will happily run with 800w! The speaker does need to be broken in a bit with playing and so I intend to use it over the next few weeks and update this review after some more use with it. Very pleased so far! Danny
