acidbass posted a topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Hi all If you are reading this, then I'm sure you are well aware of these beauties. The famous Tone Hammer EQ coupled with a 500w power amp and all under 4lbs in weight! Head head seen on top of one of my DB112 cabs (not presently for sale) As new condition - been kept in a custom fitted aluminium hardcase all it's life (supplied) 500w @ 4ohms 250w @ 8ohms Full Specs - http://www.guitargui...=11021116575929 I've owned Mark Bass, Genz Benz and Gallien Krueger lightweight heads but none of them have had the heft or tone of this. Tortex Yellow .72mm here - a nice balance of attack and flexibility for me.

Use and love LaBella flats on a Precision, but strangely prefer Rotosound Jazz 77 flats on a Jazz!

Yeah I follow Steve Bailey's posts along with some of the other Berklee guys - very sad

Hi guys Recently ventured into the realms of the double bass - picked myself up a lovely Shen laminate bass - seperate love thread to follow! Anyway - as well as learning how to play the thing, I have a million questions! Eventually I'd like to play it at gigs, and have been looking at options for amplifying it. Gig wise I will mainly be doing gigs on large stages so I have been looking into mounting a mic onto the bass instead of a pickup, which I hear take away a lot of the acoustic qualities of the bass. Style wise I hope to play folk and jazz type stuff, mostly pizz. I see a few nice mics in the DPA catalogue - does anyone have any experience of them? I will mainly be using in-ear monitors or a small Promethean combo. Also - would a mic benefit from being used with a preamp? Thanks in advance guys! Danny

Back from a couple of gigs in Spain...

Nice one! Love foreign gigs. Always seems to be the way that you never have enough time off while abroad - I guess a promoter/manager sees it as a loss to put the band up an extra night early or whatever. -
It is very similar for the first 5 or so chords anyway, same key too and picking pattern. I guess a settlement will be reached. As for the mention of Weller - there are surely no two riffs more alike than 'Changing Man' and ELO's '10538 Overture'

Thanks guys! I think I will just send em back. Don't want to cut them and potentially be unable to return them as a result.

D'Addario XL nickels (EXL to be precise)

Hi all Quick question! I have been sent the wrong type of string by a dealer. I needed strings for a regular 34" Jazz bass but instead have received super long scale strings designed for 36" scale length. Will these work for me, or is it worth returning them? Many Thanks! Danny
No way, he night be the busiest but he hasn't played as much or played as many genres I have played over the last 50 years. Blue
Lol this guy

Yep - like toothpaste coming out of the tube, once your reputation is damaged you will not be able to recover it with agents in venues. Is it only your guitarist who has this issue, out of your whole band? If the others feel the same as him then maybe the band isn't the right one for you. I couldn't be in a band if I was fighting an uphill battle to co-ordinate gigs. If it were me and it was only the guitarist who has an issue, I would definitely get a dep sorted. Explain to him that you have to take whatever gigs are offered and that you don't want the rest of the band members to ultimately lose out.

Our gigs cancelled at request of 'name' tribute act

I place the blame firmly on the venue for this. Limehouse Lizzy are clearly trying to protect their income, and I am surprised that the venue are clearing their books for them like this. I assume you will take your gigs and following elsewhere when booking a local gig in future. -
Cool! I'm on tour on the East Coast at the same time as you. Love getting over to the States! My advice is to enjoy every minute. Take lots of photos as they will be great to show your kids and grandkids. Make the most of your days off i.e. don't waste them with hangovers (speaking from experience!) Lastly - don't be too annoyed when the bass amp you spec turns out to be a 30 year old Peavey instead of your preferred Mesa Boogie or whatever. Give it stacks and before you know it you'll be rebooked!

Amateur band music scene in Northern Ireland (and a bit of rant)
acidbass replied to IBWT's topic in General Discussion
What sort of band are you trying to put together? I guess it is a case of networking with the right people. Fastfude is a dead duck! Facebook have a few local music groups - might be worth a try? -
I make about 50% of my income through gigging at weddings and functions. I must say I enjoy it immensely for many reasons. The crowd is always up for a laugh, and it feels great knowing you are properly entertaining a large crowd. It's great for networking with other musicians also, some of whom are scarily talented! A lot of professional players pay the bills this way. By and large the gigs finish early in NI (11pm or midnight) so you can be home and in bed early with a good wage. I have some truly great memories from gigging on this scene and have met many lifelong friends.

There's a band in my locality who play the brass break in Sir Duke completely wrong and it really grinds my gears! Whole sections missing or wrong. The problem there is that the guitar player has taught the other (uninterested) musicians how to play the wrong line. Absolute sacrilege!

How The Beatles still grip Liverpool ...
Blue, you are doing it again. You are, of course, entitled to disagree with me and I respect your right to do so. However, please stop making absolutist statements rubbishing my opinion. I am not the only person who thinks that the Beatles have been surpassed and you know it. To suggest that I am in the manner in which you did is clearly designed to belittle me in a manner which is both childish and offensive. I am entitled to be treated with the same respect with which I treat you.
+1. I have unfortunately learned to ignore Blue's posts. -
Paul Simon plays bass on 'You Can Call Me Al' - the part is played on a six string bass and decorates alongside the familiar groove
-
I guess the likelihood of something going wrong with either is exactly the same, given that the QC out in the Far East is usually just as good as in the USA. In fact you might even avoid a notorious 'Friday Afternoon' cab
-
Can he be replaced? Bear in mind a new drummer could potentially bring a lot more to the table than you expect - musically, socially or whatever.

Saw Sting & Paul Simon and loved every minute of it despite the ticket cost. In fact I'd have paid that to see each artist individually! Will definitely catch this tour if it comes across t'water
I know what and how the younger generation feels about The Beatles. You can't fool me.
I am 28 and have been listening avidly to the Beatles for years. I could probably busk their entire back catalogue on bass. I find your attitude disparaging and verging on reverse ageism!
