  1. [quote name='Hobbayne' timestamp='1462715554' post='3045098'] The bloke on the far left looks like that chap from Focus with the high squeaky voice. [/quote] [i]Everyone[/i], back then, looked like that chap from Focus with the high squeaky voice..! ... and here they are, folks; a trip down Memory Lane, for some... http://youtu.be/g4ouPGGLI6Q
  2. [quote name='Beer of the Bass' timestamp='1462712895' post='3045069']...the matching full-band set is very much an idea of its time! [/quote] Matching..? We were all trying to be different, and express our originality, back then..!
  3. There was a reunion gig a couple of years back (2013, if memory serves...). Here's a view of the early line-up (note the bas stack...) ... ... and here, on stage at Angers ... Doesn't time fly by, though, eh..? It seems like only yesterday when we were young, carefree, full of 'get up and go'..!
  4. [quote name='Beer of the Bass' timestamp='1462709576' post='3045031'] Never mind the beards, those are some spectacular trousers. Shame it's a black and white photo! [/quote] It didn't seem strange at the time ... (... and still doesn't..! ) Go easy, though, folks, these are my pals, although I've not seen 'em for several decades, now. We're dealing with archaeology, here. My favourite style, for instance, is Norse; just wait until it comes back into fashion. I'll be right up there at the pinnacle of 'in-ness'..!
  5. [quote name='CamdenRob' timestamp='1462706730' post='3044998'] Also, due to the decidedly underwhelming level of interest, next month I might try and bribe BCers to vote with some sort of bass related prize... Kinda like a raffle... [/quote] A quick tango with Mrs C, for instance..?
  6. [quote name='spectoremg' timestamp='1462705726' post='3044989'] Beards weren't optional then? [/quote] You had to [i]be [/i]there to understand. ...
  7. [size=4][color="#222222"][font="Arial, sans-serif"]And the winner is... SubsonicSimpleton..! Well done, sir. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167486] Here, then, is your Winner's Certificate (download and save as pdf file, then proudly print and frame...) ...[/font][/color][/size] [attachment=218843:BC_Nood_Cert_2016_04.pdf] [size=4][color="#222222"][font="Arial, sans-serif"]... which looks like this (but bigger, of course..!)... [/font][/color][/size]
  8. I looked up '[color=#282828][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif] [/font][/color][color=#282828][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Music Theory for the Bass Player'; although no longer a beginner, it looks to be very progressive, very complete, very readable. Duly noted for ordering. I have quite a few books of the sort in my modest library; this one will get my attention more than some others. Jolly good stuff. [/font][/color]
  9. Just for the anecdote... I had recently joined the variety band (mid-'70s...); the 'tour bus' was an extended Peugeot J7 (not this one, but similar; this one was a sister act, 'The Shouters', very big 'back then'...)... Lionel, the driver/road, also had the glorious task of pulling birds and getting in beer for the band, and hold down the console FOH. That week-end, we were a fair few hundred kilometres from base, all the gear was loaded after the show, as was Lionel. Well loaded. I had been on orange juice all evening, so got given the task of driving home, with the band sleeping in the bunks behind. Now, a J7 is a thirsty beast at the best of times, and was loaded to the hilt (Leslie cabs for instance, anyone..?). I took me a couple of hundred kilometres to discover, by accidental reflex, that this one had, in fact, four gears..! I'd thought it to be the more usual three-gear version. Goodness knows how much fuel I'd used..! That same night, having lost my way, I had to reverse a bit to turn around. I never did get to explain to the [i]chef d'orchestre[/i] where that small (-ish...) dent in the back came from. Happy daze.
  10. Having followed the 'build' topic, seeing the finished instrument being (well...) played, and with obvious enthusiasm really rounds off the story. Wild applause for all involved; thanks for the 'build' share and thanks for the vision of the result. Just a couple of 'typos' to correct in the video and it'd be perfect..! . Great stuff.
  11. There are nuances between 'playing for money', '[i]only [/i]playing for money' and 'playing [i]only [/i]for money'. To each his/her own, of course; Having a broad outlook is not a Bad Thing, either. Just sayin'.
  12. Isn't mid-late '80s close enough..? Does it make a difference..? Just curious.
  13. [quote name='Mykesbass' timestamp='1462556659' post='3044064'] Haven't found a version of theirs that it sounds like - we borrowed this from Susan Tedeschi! [/quote] Not much of what they played sounded the same twice in a row..! That's part of their charm.
  14. Sugaree..! [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167485]

  16. [quote name='ambient' timestamp='1462546043' post='3043940'] Maybe something like this ?... [/quote] Thanks for that; ordered. Looks to be just up my street. Cheers.
  17. Every Marketplace section has a link, just beneath the section title... ... I'll see if I can get it to be [color=#ff0000][b]Bold Red[/b][/color] ...
  18. [quote name='Mykesbass' timestamp='1462519827' post='3043660'] My band... [/quote] Very nice; very nice indeed. Good, solid, sober playing, authentic arrangement, excellent vocals (special mention...). If I could allow myself a tiny quibble..? Yes..? OK, but a tiny one: that darned snare, just that touch too dry and too present. Well played, but (to my old ears...), slightly out of context. OK, that's all. A ringing round of applause for all concerned. Good stuff.
  19. [quote name='Huge Hands' timestamp='1462526043' post='3043719'] Not sure on the "how many bumps per period" rule, but it has been a few days? [/quote] It's all there in the Marketplace Rules and Guidelines (see links in my signature...); worth a read-through, surely..? 'Bumping' is at a minimum of 36 hours interval. Hope this helps.
  20. [quote name='Nick Reed' timestamp='1462516212' post='3043624'] Not sure how to drop pics in here... [/quote] Using the BBCode link supplied by an external photo account such as Imgur is a good idea; the photos are better presented and it uses no BC server space. I use Imgur (it's free...); here's what it looks like (the correct link for Basschat is in green...) ... Other image hosting sites are similar. Hope this helps...
  21. [quote name='JapanAxe' timestamp='1462487281' post='3043560'] I am tempted to say 'physics' except that Blackstar have now released a bass version of the Fly 3, which is less than the size of a house brick! [/quote] 'Taint valve, though.

  23. [quote name='deaky' timestamp='1462466081' post='3043285']...a collection only sale... [/quote] One would hope, then, that you don't reside in Honolulu. It would help you if you'd fill in your Profile with your Location, and also add that Location information to the text of your ad. Just sayin'; good luck with the sale.
  24. [quote name='Bigwan' timestamp='1462461525' post='3043217'] Hernia?! 13kg?! What are men made of nowadays! Tsk, tsk, tsk... [/quote] Plus the amp in a case with the cables etc, and the (lightweight..?) bass... It all adds up, you know. It all seems to stem from this bass-specific need to have a 'one-trip' rig. I have a rug, a drum throne, three cymbal-drum stands, a pedal vanity case, five soft flight cases and a cymbal flight case to load in and out. Do I do that in one foul swoop..? The heck I do..! You've chosen well to go for bass. Could've gone for piccolo, though; even less to haul...
  25. [quote name='JapanAxe' timestamp='1462451005' post='3043095'] That'll be the 'grand stave' then Dad. [/quote] Indeed. I'm not suggesting that all should be written that way (it's cumbersome...); merely that it makes more sense, to me, to understand that the bass and treble staves are not so different or difficult to learn, if taken as parts of a whole. When reading one or the other, one is really only reading less than half a stave, so it's relatively easy..!
