1. What's good enough for Jack Casady is good enough for me.
 2.
For most rock bands at the local level sitting is not allowed. I can't even imagine asking my band if I could play sitting down. I'm 63 with a bad hip with sciatica going down to my toes. If I'm out here standing doing 4 hour bar gigs , you young guys should be able to handle standing. Blue
3.
It's certainly a thought but I am not aware of too many bassists in rock bands that play sitting down (happy to be corrected tho) and to be honest I would feel a bit of a twat if I did!!

Not sure if serious...? Unless it's a jazz, acoustic or mellow gig; or some sort of medical reason stops it then it just looks wrong to have people sitting on stage. I felt guilty sitting there when I broke my leg, when it was first plastered I had to keep my foot up or it was painful and I felt bad for the audience. I like to dance and interact and show that I'm having fun as well. That probably makes me sound a snob, but it's not entertaining to watch unless people are moving and showing a bit of emotion. With regards to the OP, Scott Divine did a lesson about strap length which is worth a watch. Otherwise, it's just a case of practice and getting a feel for it.
Seriously..? Halfway house, really; I don't see the notion of having this special, optimised posture standing if one is, at the same time, moving about, interacting with the audience and generally 'rocking out'. Nothing wrong with any of that, of course, but I can't see the bass staying riveted in its 'home' place in doing that, unless it really is riveted in place. If one is moving about, the bass is swinging around at least a bit, isn't it..? Or does everyone loon about with a rigid instrument..? My point would be: either it's necessary to have a good, mastered posture (in which cas I'd say sit, and hang 'em all...) or it's not that important in rock, so rehearse and play as seems comfy or appropriate for the genre and leave the perfect stance out of it. I sit, as a drummer, but if I wanted (or felt like...) playing standing (or even lying down...), I'd have no qualms with it. One plays as one plays, unless this stereotyping is really what it's all about, in which case what's the deal with the technical perfection..? Serious, me..? Pshaw.!
 4. Can you not sit down at the gig..? A folding chair or drum throne..? If not, why not..? Just sayin'.
 5.
... Good stuff, Dad.
[sharedmedia=core:attachments:167485] One of the penalties incurred when recording/mixing when deaf; sorry. I can hardly hear it at all, even when 'soloed'..! I've taken it (a 'rainmaker', actually...) down 6db; any better..?
 6. No idea what that rig is, but I'd recommend that it be repaired. Bloomin' awful racket from beginning to end, even taking into account that it's a 'phone recording. They finished (not too soon...) on one that I actually recognised (yes, 'Killing...'), as we 'cover' that in our set. I prefer our one, by a long chalk. Still, if it pleases some. Much ado about nothing, as far as I'm concerned...

 8. Old, but still relevant, and recommended (disclaimer: uses 'dots', not tab...)... How to Play The Electric Bass, by Carol Kaye ... also... Hal Leonard Bass Method: Complete Edition (Spiral-bound; very useful for music stand use...), equally recommended. Hope this helps.
 9. Whilst I'm here, and able (it may not last...), here's my contribution for this month... Worlds Apart ... Enjoy.
 10.
...Can I still use those?
Only if they go 'Clip clop' repeatedly.
... (Apart from simple click tracks and metronomes)...
Does it matter if one follows the metronome or not..?
 11.
From Wikipedia and my experience as a former racing cyclist: In cycling, cadence (or pedalling rate) is the number of revolutions of the crank per minute; roughly speaking, this is the rate at which a cyclist is pedalling/turning the pedals. Cadence is related to wheel speed, but is a distinct measurement.
Indeed, but (from the OED...)... To peddle 1 - Try to sell (something, especially small goods) by going from place to place: He peddled printing materials around the country 1.1 - Sell (an illegal drug or stolen item): (as noun peddling) Youths involved in drug peddling 1.2 - Promote (an idea or view) persistently or widely: The giant con that has been peddled in the Conservative press
 12.
...Interestingly (or not) cadence is the term cyclists use to talk about peddle rotation speed
Allow me to doubt that, unless they're taking it in turns to distribution their dope..?
 13.
Whenever I've heard the word "Stank" (always relating to octave pedals) it's used in a positive sense. "That octaver has stank" ... like stank is a good thing :/

I understand it under another term.....that term being "Utter Bo££o€ks" Hope this clarifies.
So a synonym for 'marmite', perhaps..?
 14. Of course one bass is fine for a great many (most..?) folks. I spent several years with my Verithin into a Fender Bassman 50w and 2 x 15, our youngest now plays our Douglas (yes, I know..!) sixer fretless, Hiwatt 200w into HH 2 x 15 horn cab. We have a bass floor pedal gathering dust, as we find that 'one size fits all', and have never had complaints (rather the opposite; we're often complimented on the bass sound...). Our repertoire is varied, the guitars do the 'heavy lifting' tonally, and have racks and all to cope, including swapping when they feel it's required, but the bass remains the same. RATM, Jeff Buckley, AC-DC, the Floyd, Muse... they all sound good. As an aside, I have also been playing the same drums for nigh-on fifty years, now. All sorts of gigs , bands and orchestras. I've never felt the need to have a Ludwig Oyster Pearl kit, but have never needed to change kit for salsa, rock, folk, pop, waltzes... One kit (as long as it's a good'un...) does it all, and it's the same with basses for most players. I'll admit that, for getting a 'tribute' sound, or for deliberately wanting to create something especially 'out there', there are many reasons for changing instrument, but for the most part, any decent bass will do a darned good job in the right hands. Not likely to be popular with those following trends or fashions, I know, and maybe a blow to the global economy, but that's how I see it. Yes, a 'P' is fine. So is a 'J', or an Ibby, or a Riccy, or ... Snobbery is not (yet...) dead, though.
 15. I'm surprised, reading all of this, that Sir Macca ever got anywhere at all. A Precision is all there is in the Bass World..? I'm only a drummer, so I wouldn't know, of course, but I still say 'Poppycock', so there. You really are a funny old lot, sometimes.
 16.
...There's no point in me comparing them sonically or constructionally as they're all chalk and cheese.
Should've gone to a proper luthier, instead of Marks and Spencer.

 18. Sorely tempted, even though I already have an excellent DaisyRock twelver. SHMBO wouldn't appreciate the nuances between them, I'm afraid. A superb instrument, more playable than a Ricky, for mortals. Good luck with the sale. Any chance of photos of the red-burst on your one..?
 19.
...it turns out he IS a musician all along!!
And there you go, you see..? Another bassist fooled. It's too easy; fish in a barrel... (Sigh... )
 20.
... First simple question revolved around tonic chords...
That's 'tonic' as in 'sets the tone'; it might help if mentally pronounced that way (the 'ton..' part pronounced like 'tone', not as in 'gin and tonic'...). A 'C' scale has its tone set by the tonic note, ie: the 'C'... It is, effectively, the tone by which the other notes in a musical piece are, mentally, referenced, or judged, by the listener. A piece comes to resolution (and therefore sounds comfortable...) when it returns to the tonic sound, and comes to rest. Very many (not all, but very many...) pieces of music finish on the tonic note or chord. Think of major orchestral stuff, at the end going, apparently endlessly, through those repeated big orchestral 'hits' until, finally, settling on 'Ta-Dahhhhhhhh', followed by applause. That's the tonic (as in 'tone', not gin and tonic...) of the piece performing its role as resolution.

 22.
You should always pick songs for the audience. You won't be able to educate the audience, that's not what they come out for and not your job. Your job is to sell alcohol and entertain. Blue
No, Blue; that's your job. Our job is to have fun and educate the audience, whilst (hopefully...) entertaining them.
 23.
... Dad- I have no idea what that is! Is that the post Brexit stock market?
Well it was going to be my contribution to the July Basschat Composition Challenge, but maybe I should reconsider..? On topic, what exactly would you like to see on this screen (take a virtual pencil and sketch something to show us what you want..?).
 24.
... Is there anything out there that does that?
Like this..? Reaper (on a laptop, for portability..?), doing FFT audio analysis. An oscilloscope will do this, of course, but one with VGA o/p is likely to cost £5000 or so.
 25. Jon sent me some string sets (to France..!), well packed, speedily, with excellent communication. Recommended; a Good Egg.
