  1. [quote name='garry warrington' timestamp='1456941217' post='2993862']...How can i fix this? [/quote] Reverse the connection for one of the p/ups (The Creamery, as it's the last one in..?). Just switch 'em over and try it out again. 'P' p/ups are often louder, as they're fed by a great string movement. You could lower it a bit, or raise the jazz..? Up to a certain point you just have to live with it. Hope this helps.
  2. [quote name='blue' timestamp='1456937658' post='2993798'] Whether we like country or not band number 2 is the only real established band with gigs and the opportunity to make some money... [/quote] ...which just goes to show that all is entirely dependent upon the outlook of the person reading the ad, as one would expect. Some prefer one, some another... I don't see where this could go, really. What's the [i]real [/i]question..?
  3. Done da deed, dude. There's some good stuff in there, although one wonders if some are, indeed, bass..!
  4. [quote name='oz-bass' timestamp='1456927021' post='2993613'] Uhm, when hooking up two 8 Ohm speakers are they in series or parallel? What i really want to know is if i have to set the amp on 4 Ohm or 16 Ohm? [/quote] In parallel (that's with the two speaker positives together and the two speaker negatives together...), that's a 4 Ohm load, so you'd set the amp to 4 Ohms. In series (that's where one speaker positive goes to the amp, the negative goes to the other speaker's positive, the second speaker's negative back to the amp...), that's a 16 Ohm load, so you'd set the amp to 16 Ohms. If, by 'speaker', you really mean 'cab', as in 'speaker cabinet', then it's the first option (4 Ohms...) that'll apply if each cab is connected to the amp. Never run the amp with no speakers connected, either.
  5. [size=4][quote name='blue' timestamp='1456895984' post='2993266'] These are always fun. What is your opinion of the opportunity and what type of bass player would be a good fit? 6. ... But what, exactly, dictates a bass's age..? Years from manufacture..? Hours played..? In any particular style, or just played..? Is a NOS bass good because it's been in its case for 40 years..? Does playing only reggae count towards this ageing process, or is slapping an essential part of tone acquisition..? Once 'refinned', does it all have to be done again (ie, it's all in the paint...), or is the tone retained in the wood..? So many factors...
  7. [quote name='Skol303' timestamp='1456876735' post='2993237'] PS: whilst you're here... have a listen and vote in the all new [b]Basschat Noodle Bar[/b] challenge!... [/quote] No, I'm not going to write up a 5-page diatribe on the merits or otherwise of each of these ^^ fine works, so it's no use begging me to..! ... Even if you ask nicely..! ... Or at all. ... No-one..? ... OK, then, I'll leave by the back door... ... (But I'll certainly be giving them all a good spin and choosing my favourites..! )
  8. ... and even guitars and basses, sometimes. ...
  9. [quote name='the boy' timestamp='1456860706' post='2993021'] Any picture?????? [/quote] Chomping at the bit, eh..?
  10. [quote name='Kevin Glasgow' timestamp='1456769603' post='2992086']... Here's a new video from my band Preston-Glasgow-Lowe. Hope you enjoy it! ... [/quote] [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167485] [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167486] ... but what on earth do you do for an encore to follow that..?
  11. [quote name='timmo' timestamp='1456854602' post='2992926'] If I play an A minor, and use all of the natural notes, I am also playing the notes for a C major. When does it become a mode, as I think I understand that a mode is a scale just starting on a different note, but keeping within the notes of the scale. So if I start a G Major, but start it from F#. Am I playing a mode? [/quote] Almost (it would be 'Locrian', I believe...), but modes are not so much a question of where one starts and finishes as which notes are accentuated, or settled upon. Yes, they're all the same notes, but making the VII the 'key' or 'pivot' note for your playing, whether or not you start there, is what makes it 'modal'. It's only really a useful concept in a few musical contexts, though. Subject to completion, correction and/or contradiction from others; just my tuppence-worth. Hope it helps.
  12. [quote name='Colonel36' timestamp='1456857002' post='2992961'] I've got Dr Duck's also and it's good. Now ........ I've also tried/tested used on different stuff, " Johnson's baby oil " and I cannot tell the difference between that and Dr Duck's. I know, I know that Duck's lasts ages but you can get a great bottle of baby oil for a fraction of the price and as I said...... I can't tell the difference and nor can anyone else that I've asked about this when showing it to them. Also used it on a leather jacket and leather suite and tried Duck's on them as well with yet again, no difference between the two of them. If anyone can tell the difference between Duck's and baby oil..let me know, as I'm interested to see/hear it. [/quote] Yes, I tried this same experiment, but using engine oil on the baby. It didn't turn out too well; I think SHMBO spotted the difference. Maybe I should not have used [i]used [/i]engine oil..?
  13. [quote name='ambient' timestamp='1456856461' post='2992955'] It's got to have a meaning. I have to compose 2 pieces of music, but use graphic notation, text or some other none standard means of communicating it. [/quote] Here you go, then... Transpose up an octave for the second piece; job done.
  14. I've just bought a bottle of this ^^, but haven't even opened it yet..! It is supposed to do the trick (or I wouldn't have bought it..! ); look it up and try it, maybe..? A bottle should last a couple of decades, at least, as only a drop or two is required. There's an Irish mail order site selling it, at not too dear a price. Just my tuppence-worth.
  15. [quote name='titchfieldrelic' timestamp='1456851830' post='2992900'] Hello Dad, Did your school reports say you had an [b]'inclination to indolence?'[/b] [/quote] Dunno. Couldn't be b*ggered to read 'em.
  16. Do bass [i]players [/i]get better when they get older..? If so, I should be getting pretty good quite soon..!
  17. [quote name='skampino' timestamp='1456847654' post='2992846'] Thankyou DAD....worked a treat! [/quote] [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167485]
  18. More replies..? OK, then. I've guitars and basses that are just short of half a century old, and I've never used more than a lint-free cloth to clean 'em, still less oil 'em. Some are maple boards, most are rosewood or similar, and I've never come across symptoms of drying out or such. It's different in some climates, such as sub-tropical or Canada, where there can be long periods of differing humidity and temperature. It's also true that my environment is not a sterile, centrally-heated one (an old cottage with more draughts than a Chinese Checker board...). I have just, very recently, been bold enough to invest in a bottle of Dr. Duck's Ax Wax, which I believe will spruce 'em up a tad, but my inclination to indolence has, as yet, prevented me from even opening the bottle so far. Maybe this summer I'll give my basses a treat..? Or the year after; we'll see. I reckon this one bottle'll see me out.
  19. [quote name='Dapper Bandit' timestamp='1456844557' post='2992821'] Having played through multiple Eventide pedals for a number of years now I cannot say I've noticed any latency and when I've plugged in directly on other occasions there has been no revelation or increase in immediacy. [/quote] But aren't Eventide essentially [i]delay [/i]pedals anyway..?
  20. You may like to have a glance through the various (and very varied...) systems used for Dance notation, from folk, through ballet to contemporary and more..? A web search for 'dance notation' will throw up a whole host of methods used, over several centuries; have a look at some of the images. There may be some mileage in some of the graphic elements in there..?
  21. Try this, to delete attachments no longer required, and liberate quota space..? Go to your 'My Profile' (your pseudo, top right...). Select 'Edit my Profile' (black button a bit below...). Select 'Manage Attachments' (in the list on the left...). They are listed in date order. Navigate to oldest, select those to be deleted (tick boxes on the right...). Select 'Delete Selected' (grey button at bottom right of list...). Repeat, page by page, until all unwanted attachments are deleted. Using the BBCode link supplied by an external photo account such as Imgur is a good idea; the photos are better presented and it uses no BC server space. I use Imgur (it's free...); here's what it looks like (the correct link for Basschat is in green...) ... Other image hosting sites are similar, I believe (assuming use of a PC; I know nothing of other devices...). Hope this helps...
