Most often, big filter caps will show physical signs before failure, typically bulging and/or leakage. Many caps have 'escape vents' that pop if there's a build-up of pressure inside. Often, these caps are spec'ed close to top limit. Other than that, if there's no sign of deterioration, it changes nothing to swap 'em out; new caps can fail, too. My Hiwatt and Fender still have their original caps, with no symptoms. I'm well qualified for changing them, and wouldn't hesitate if there seemed any risk, but for now, all is well. Still, if I'm not heard of for a few weeks, maybe someone could come and pull me free from the smoke-filled room, please..?

Constant annoying hum/noise from (new) active ACG bass

So now we know. The body hidden under the floorboards in that corner has a Seiko watch and an insulin pump. -
... Heres a clip of an old b52's gig...
Worth noting that the toms (and very likely the snare, too...) have been damped down with tea towels or the like over the batter heads. Maybe a tip for those that find their drums too loud..?

Some of the above are overlooking the existence of other forms of gig than a rock concert. For variety orchestras, there is a clue in the name: variety. A typical evening would cover a wide spread of musical styles, most apt for dancing, but not all catering for the same dances. There would be a session of waltzing, some quick-step, a few tangos, some rock'n'roll, a bit of twist... The evening would be an event for the whole village or town, and entire families would attend; the music reflected the mix of generations. Many a couple would be formed with these social occasions. It's not all rowdy pubs and punk; there are other gigs. Typical ambience... Just sayin'.

Posted in 2014, but seems appropriate...
There are all sorts of events on the periphery of the annual Printemps de Bourges festival here in France. Our band were invited, with 4 gigs and a showcase to play, all in one day. We hadn't even thought about PA until, arriving at the first bar venue, the bloke was astonished that we hadn't brought one, as he had nothing. Our tech had to hunt up in double quick time a system (mid-festival, it's not easy to find any 'spare' gear locally..! ). We did the gigs. For the anecdote, in one tiny bar, packed to the hilt, the enthusiastic audience reaction was such that all the tables, bolted to the floor with cast-iron Art Deco legs, were busted right off, leaving potentially deadly spikes sticking out of the floor. The LL wanted us out, but he got convinced to let us finish if we could keep the crowd under control. I ended up as 'bouncer', trying to fend off the fans with PAR 56 cans..! Hectic, really hectic. Yes, the whole event was tiring. Happy days.

Here's mine ... BC Noodle 2016, May ... A quick check-out of our OLP Baritone guitar, tuned as a bass. One take, no treatment whatsoever; I didn't even check the tuning..! Both p/us, fully 'open', played to a 'click' at 120 bpm.
So my band finally released a single...
[sharedmedia=core:attachments:167486] Nothing to add. Nothing to take away. Nigh on perfection. Special mention for (well, everyone, really..!), but I do like that discreet blast beat punctuation from the drums. Bass tone..? Ideal for the job. Guitars..? Suitably panned, suitably together, suitably apart. The singing..? Spot on, including BV's. Best production job I've heard in a fair while. Good, solid lyrics, perfectly audible, splendid sober video... I could go on, but you'd only get even more embarrassed. Well done; congratulations to all involved. Edit: I could comment on the grammar of this topic's title, but I assume that it's a deliberate, provocative jest, so I won't.

in '74, I bought my drums, and I helped my Dad in making a set of beechwood and ply crates for 'em, before moving to France and touring with 'em. Now we play out very rarely, and in my own Trafic tour bus, and so use a tough set of medium-soft zip-up cases. As above, it's a case (Ha, ha..!) of horses for courses. If basses stay at home, they can be on stands, or wall hangers. Once out of the house, it's just a question of weighing up the risks against practicality, finance, space available and more. Each has his/her own solution, which can evolve, as things often change. My top vintage jazz guitar was resting, at home, in the corner of the room, minding its own business. A very young nephew passed by, the headstock was snapped clean off. It took me 10 years and over 1000€ to get it repaired. It now resides in a hard case, even at home, as do almost all of my instruments. My 'go to' guitar and bass are hanging on the wall behind my armchair. Accidents can, and do, happen.

Is not the definitive solution to this overhang complex thing to use a combo..?
... Anything more than that is filler and no one will take any notice anyway...
Apparently you've not experienced dance evenings, à la française, where all are on the floor from 9 till 2. Woe betide the band that leaves a 'blanc' in the proceedings. Taken over more by the disco-type scene, 5 hours non-stop is the norme in some circles, and poses no problem at all for serious musicians.
...how much protection does one need if you look after your gear?
An accident is just that; an unforeseen circumstance. If one never has one, no need for any insurances at all, I suppose. It's when an accident occurs that these things come into play. One takes one's chances... Just sayin'.

Have we all become wimps or is it a sign of an ageing population

NBD - Warning "first bass" content... from 1964 (not great)
Dad3353 replied to Grangur's topic in General Discussion
That's my first bass, too (but in white...). Bought from a ropey pawn-type shop in Addlestone High Street, supposedly new (and it might have been...) for £20, it got traded in for a mixed Edgeware/Trixon set of drums after a few months; that's when I took a different route. Between the drums and the bass, I think I got the better deal. T'would be interesting to lay hands on another, for old time's sake, but I know that I won't be hankering after one any time soon. Mine really wasn't all that good to play. -
I posted this at 21:19 according to my computer... EDIT: A little bit out, but close enough to be able to say that its something at your end causing it.
My PC tells me it was posted at 10:15 PM, but that's because my PC is on European (Paris...) time, one hour ahead of the UK. That's normal for me; I'm in France.

Sold Paiste Hi Hat Cymbals
Dad3353 replied to gary mac's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
I'll wait until this time next month, and if no-one else is interested in this fine pair by then, I'll have' em sent to France to add to my modest Paiste collection. You have been fairly warned; those who snooze will loose out (I think there's maybe a punchier way of putting that, but I can't think of it right now...). The clock starts ticking... ... ... ... Now..! -
... the middle bit with the electronica/effects pedals...
It looked, and sounded, to me as if he'd accidentally trodden on the wrong button and spent the rest of the number desperately trying to get it back to something credible, at least, in which (again, to me...) he failed. I'm all for innovation, but any random noise in a storm leaves me a bit cold, I'm afraid. Our eldest uses 'un-guitar' sounds a lot, but there's a certain coherence needed to pull it off, I reckon. Still, if it worked for some...
Well the 410 is 400w handeling and the 210 is 200w handeling.. Does this make a difference??
The amp develops 300w into 4 ohms, of which (at full tilt...) 150w will go to each cab. Both should be fine, in theory; you'll hear if there's a problem, probably. At that rate, your ears will be singing, however.
