    For a Bass you can't go wrong with the luthiers on this forum. I've had two custom builds from @Andyjr1515 and he's also renovated a couple. Check the builds threads to see whose work you like. I'd also give serious consideration to ACG - Alan builds superb "not quite run of the mill" basses - build quality is amazing and prices are less than a new Fender. If you're after an Electric Upright you should check out ForteVio who makes electric violins/cellos and double basses. Videos on YT and FB.

    Absolutely - I had an amazing sound from my AH150 through a Vanderkley 112 EXT - shouldn't have sold the cab - I blame that eternal search for the "perfect tone". If you want to borrow a head, you know where I am.

    The heads aren't heavy - maybe 12kg. The combos....well that's a different story. In times gone by "build quality" equated to "Heavy"

    Jaydee will build you whatever you want. I've seen photos of a couple of Js built by John. Years ago, the driver who collected my car, which needed to repaired after being hit, owned a Flying V guitar built by John, so the customer can have whatever they want. IIRC @Red Dog has a LP shaped Jaydee.

    Maybe try some Tapewound strings? I'm amazed at the difference fitting them to my 5ers has made. I've had Status tapes on my Silk Bass from Day 1 - didn't realise they were so good till I used them on my 5ers. Have a listen to Scott from 9.30
