Frighteningly familiar unfortunately...it's a shame when egos get in the way of what we're in this for - the love of making music. I'm about to embark in a new project with some local musicians - I'm trying to make it clear that there is no room for inflated egos, it's OUR band and we won't be the backing band for guitar solos and singers.

When I started playing your choices were Dean Markleys or Ernie Balls... It seems that loads of people use the EBs, I don't know anybody who uses DMs - and I can't find a reason why...

I was thinking about @Old Horse Murphy's beautiful green Charvel but it's a PJ. I have a Squire Standard PJ - MII - a lot of bass for not much - as suggested, swap the P for a J and get a new scratchplate.

I recently traded a Ray SUB 5er (out) for a Yamaha BBG5S (in) - I definitely think I got the better end of the deal. I was prepared to trade either of the two basses in the title. The fella I traded with was happy with the SUB but contacted me earlier to say he'd tried a Sire V2 and was impressed - asked whether I was prepared to trade for the Sire. The Sire impresses me with the range in the preamp - lots of tonal range but TBH the neck dive stops me from enjoying playing it. The SUB plays much better but is a bit "Meh" tonally. Realistically I wouldn't play either - I love the Yamaha and Lakland 55-01 5ers that I have. Both the SUB and the Sire are in top condition so that isn't a factor. Given a choice between the two which would you have?
