2. The only bass I hang from the wall is my acoustic bass guitar. Never had problems it sometimes needs retuning but as yet has had no adverse affects. The two main guitar shops near me PMT and Guitar Guitar hang most of their guitars and basses on the wall from hangers from the cheap to the boutique and collectables and I guess if there were structural problems with the instruments from doing that they would be the first to change their practice to avoid after sales issues with customers.
3. That's the rig that I used to use with my basses that have individual pickup outputs so I can eq separately and send to individual cabs. Most of my gigs are reggae so I cannot see much to be gained from that set up in that genre. I tried it a few times on a jazz funk gig and one with acoustic guitars and the clarity was outstanding. These days I stay mono, usually one cab and have put the second pre-amp in a separate rack case for when travelling light.
4.
As someone once said to me 'that's a lot of knobs for a bass player'
I have been looking for a good 1u rack mount power amp that is powerful and clean all through the range. I currently use a QSC PLX 2402 2U power amp which fits the bill sound wise but it weighs a ton. How well does the Synq 2k2 Power Amp work is it low noise and with a fan quiet etc . I've never heard of them before.
5. I've had mine for the best part of a year now and they show no signs of going dead yet and still have a good range of sound and crispness.

Wow a surfretter, glad to see someone else has one too. Do you play it much? I haven't in recent years as I'm playing bass more often. I have used it on a few gigs in the past though but only for melodic stuff and the odd few chords. I also used it a few times when I was playing guitar in a reggae band as we had some indian melodies going on and that guitar was great for getting the expression in the lines.
7. These strings are still on my bass and I've been gigging every week with them since summertime in the house band on a 3 hour open mic session also had a number of reggae gigs with them up to last weekend and they are still sounding great. They have a permanent home now on my all maple bass which is a really punchy sounding bass. The good thing is that the strings seem to have been extremely consistent over the time they have been on the bass and the crispness and clarity on the top end is still there as is the warm punchy bottom end. I think they are at home on that bass and will stay there until they break or if the tone changes to something I don't care for. So far they are showing to be a great asset.
8. Wow some serious bass arsenals here!!!!
9. Richard Cousins from the Robert Cray Band https://youtu.be/Ra2Qndv_xeE https://youtu.be/Ra2Qndv_xeE
10. You could try Anaconda bass http://www.anacondabasses.co.uk/workshop/4577086638
11. Great news Steno that the bass is sold but kind of sad that I couldn't get it. Someone has got a great musical Instrument. Life goes on. :-)
12. My PJB Briefcase is currently in there for repair as it keeps turning itself off.
13. What is the best way to get an even attack and tone from playing rapid consecutive notes. I only play with my fingers and for most things my right hand technique uses the side of my fingertips of my index and middle fingers similar to Stanley Clarke rather than the tips which I see most bass players doing. This means effectively I have my fingers brushing the strings rather than plucking in towards the bass. I find this gives me a warmer tone and for faster passages there is an even tone between notes. However some tracks I play require a more pronounced attack such as Sweet Tooth by Victor Bailey and What is hip? But to get the right tone for that I have to play with the tips of my fingers having my palm facing the bass which means my fingers are basically 90 degrees to the strings and because my index and middle fingers are different lengths I find that I have problems with getting an even note tone between alternating fingers. Any advice to offer for getting this technique better. Cheers
14. A short scale alembic signature or series bass will do what you want.
15. I Have been familiar with this bass for a number of years from the alembic web site forum and is one I have hoped would be mine at some point. I have heard some recordings with it made by the previous owner and it sounds as good as it looks. Unfortunately my bass budget Is seriously depleted at the moment. But if that changes before this gets snapped up then things may happen for me if brexit doesn't push the Pound down too far. Until then all the best with finding a new owner.
16. I've had mine since 2003 and can highly recommend them. I usually use it with 1 or two Mesa powerhouse 8ohm cabs or a single 4ohm 8x10 cab at festival gigs and it's a great amp. Still got original valves in too.
17. Ha, my spell checker clearly doesn't like the word "probs" as it changed it before I realised.
18.
Being a white skinned guy with a very dark skinned birth father it's difficult to know what I actually am anyway. I've been the only white skinned guy in an all black all male band I've been the only white skinned guy in an all black , mixed gender band I've been in all white bands and mixed race bands of various gender make ups I've been in bands with ex mods, rockers , hippies , privileged people, poor people , nice people and not so nice I've also been in bands with Chinese, Vietamise, Scottish , Irish , Italian , French and many more I'm not quite sure what the question is ?
One of the bands I play with I'm the only black guy in an all white English band playing rock n roll, 50, 60 & 70's pop music to an all white audience. Another I depped with a couple of times last year is an all white female acoustic indie band and it was the only time they had worked with a male musician. No probes with either
19. Here is one for sale across the pond in Canada I just saw today. 20. If you wanted to drop the cash on it and try it out. Im pretty sure that if it wasn't to your liking you could sell it again for the same as you got it for. Like Molan says it is a good starter for the brand. I will add that if it's a standard one it will have the low pass filter which is really a big part of the alembic sound. Before you buy it though make sure you get some pictures from the seller of inside the control cavity, join the alembic forum at www.alembic.com and post the pics up there for clarification that they are genuine. Some alembics that have appeared on the used market have had electronics and/or pickups changed and if you are new to the brand you may get stung! http://alembic.com/prod/essence.html
21. I did think of buying it regardless because I don't have any of their music at all and it would be good to hear more of it and get a better grasp of what they are about. May still do that after Christmas.
22. I heard a few tracks from it playing in HMV on Friday and whilst I haven't heard any rolling stones albums, I was expecting to hear something incredible but the tracks I heard didn't sound anything special.
23.
I just don't buy this " it's all in there fingers thing". If thats the case all the brilliant bassists in the world would be playing the same bass.Of course they have there own style.but Individual tone is down to electronics. I think there is alot of confusion between how a certain artist plays, and/or the tone they get. Marcus Miller might sound like Marcus on a Hofner or a Ricky because of his style, and the way he plays. but he's not going to have that sound
Phew I am not alone Thank You!! :-)
24. I think these are pretty rare instruments still in this country and if I think hard I can only recall ever seeing about 4 alembics being played by UK musicians in this country. Two Epics, an Orion and a Mark King. The only other times are Stanley Clarke, Jimmy Johnson and me. I'd love to see more live but unless there are any players in the midlands area it's pretty unlikely.
25. Here is a method Yolanda Charles uses . https://youtu.be/Hgv8I0xxPOU?t=1m34s
