  1. Your pics aren't working Rob. I'll be watching this with interest!
  2. I don't normally like fancy topped basses like this, but that's really quite beautiful!
  3. I can't play it, but it's one of my favourite NOFX tunes. I was lucky enough to see them play it live in Bristol, the whole thing, start to finish!
  4. Never, ever, ever, IMO. Delay can work in the right circumstances, for proggy stuff, and I think can provide a bit more clarity while still giving some depth to the sound, but it's easy to turn things muddy.
  5. It's a beautiful looking bass. Although I didn't really bond with my old S2, if I had the cash I'd love to try one of the older headless models, they have a retro charm that appeals.
  6. Looks like quite an old one, so I'd say probably, yes. I sold my then quite new bolt on S2 classic for a grand, so I'd say for a classic neck through model £1400 would be plausible, especially as the chap from Muse is plastered all over the Status website playing one - that's bound to make them more desirable.
  7. Hideous bass, that. It reminds me of a Jaguar, weirdly, with the body offset that way. Looks only a mother could love!
  8. He's having a giraffe and no mistake - 1k? No way!
  9. I love my 1212L so far, although I havent had a chance to use it with a drummer yet. Can't wait to!
  10. In my experience, with the Trace preshape EQ curve engaged on my old GP7 combo it was a warm, mid scooped sound with a clean high end. Sat quite well in a band mix.
  11. Well, it's not a forum anymore in that case, for starters!
  12. A friend of mine has my old BLX 130, and it suffers from the exact same issue. I'd be interested to hear what cures it too, it was a nice little amp!
  13. Looking for a fully formed band to join, ideally with gigs or with the prospect of gigs on the horizon! Some bands I like in the context of being a bass player are: A Wilhelm Scream Billy Talent Skunk Anansie Sonic Boom Six Streetlight Manifesto So anything like any of the above would be great. Basically, I'm after an originals band with melodic vocals, and I like everything from ska to punk to drum and bass, but I'm not a big fan of straight forward indie/classic rock music and that sort of thing really. I can sing backing vocals to a certain extent, quite enjoy it in fact. Anyway, I've got my own gear and transport, so give me a shout if you want me to try out.
  14. Has to be a P bass. Natural body, black pickguard, maple board. Sex!
  15. If being able to sing a note from memory is the prerequisite, then I have perfect pitch, but somehow I think anyone could do that with a bit of practice.
  16. I consider myself to have very good relative pitch, in that I can tune a guitar or bass by ear to the correct pitch in and if it's slightly off it will indeed drive me mad, and I can go into a band pratice, have a song thrust upon me and generally jump straight in. I think the thing that it helps me the most with is vocal harmonies for backing vocals - being able to identify the 3rd, 7th or whatever you're after from the main vocal and sing that note straight away is invaluable. As far as being born with pitch awareness or having learned it, I think if you can hear a tune and hum it back then you have at least something in the way of pitch awareness - most people do. All you need to is put it into practice, stop using a tuner for a start and tune by ear, sing along with records and try and harmonise with them etc etc. This will develop your relative pitch if nothing else.
  17. I was suprised to hear "Mrs Chomby takes the plunge" used as the soundtrack for a murder mystery tv programme a few years back too. No idea what it was, mind, I just randomly remembered it!
  18. Oddly enough, the only CD single in my music collection is Herbaliser - The Blend feat. what what. Such a tune.
  19. Good move!
  20. I've always used ring middle index - it works just as well for 4/4 but you do need to practice putting the right emphasis on the beat and making things sound even. I don't really think about it much anymore because I've done it that way for so many years, but when I analyse it, it is a bit of an odd approach. It all adds to the "character" of my playing though (much like a boxer's face after a match has "character" at least)
  21. Sorry to hear about that Scoop, glad that you're on the mend though.
  22. I've used up to 3 fingers since I first started. For very stright grooves I tend to use 2, and throw the third in for triplets and ghost notes/muting. I use the 3rd a lot when I play decening lines (I rake a lot). I wouldn't be without it, playing with just 2 feels constrained to me but that's just my preference.

  24. Christ, do us all a favour Paul and stop staring down your nose at anyone you happen to disagree with. You obviously do care about what Toasted posts or you wouldn't have constructed such a drawn out post to essentially say "I don't like you, so I'm going to stick my fingers in my ears and see how you like that". Your loss, frankly, I personally find the majority of Joe's posts to be either insightful or beautifully sarcastic, I wouldn't take everything so personally if I were you
  25. I like these. As far as I'm concerned that is the best way round to put a P pickup. I wish they had a better looking pickguard - where the jazz control plate would sit looks plain wrong. Love the seafoam green, though.
