  1. Rio has just travelled up to Manchester and bought my Mo Clifton EUB. Very easy, quick communications and a pleasure to meet and do business with. I'm glad that the bass has found a good new home.
  2. Sorry, only just saw this. Nothing in message box though.
  3. It's a shame it hasn't worked out for you. I've heard a lot of good things about them and was very tempted to get one last year but decided on a GR powered cab instead as I've got more preamps than is healthy. The DS is 600w though...maybe have a word with your drummer
  4. Thanks, it does look a little like a 7 on the photo but it is a 1. That would make it the 4th built in 2001. I've just dug up the invoice to check.
  5. In the 15th photo there is a mic stand screw size adjuster that isn't included. I don't know why it was in the bag with the other bits. It's near the hex key with the long and short fixing bolts.
  6. For sale my Clifton Electric Upright Bass. £1475 It’s around 25 years old, an early one, serial no 014. It’s been well used and gigged and has a few knocks to show for it (we are in the ‘roadworn’ age). It plays really well and has an ungigged set of Thomastic Dominants on it. I promised myself I would sell it after buying an Eminence 3 years ago so I took it to my luthier to get it tidied up and to get the scoop out of the fingerboard. Embarrassingly, I’d played it for over 20 years and not thought to get this work done on the finger board while getting it shot. The problem I had was when I got it home I found that it now played so much better than it ever had and I was reluctant to move it on. I’d mainly used it for Cuban gigs but I’m doing most of those on 5 string bass guitar now and the Eminence holds it own if I need upright. I am a self confessed gear hoarder but I’m going to be strong. I was in touch Mo recently to find out what size the bridge adjuster wheels were as I was thinking of swapping the Full Circle for a Yamahiko on my double bass and wanted to know if I’d be able to fit the FC to the Clifton. It’s a different size (8mm) so I couldn’t do it but I found out Mo has retired and is not making these anymore. The bass feels very comfortable due to the floating shoulder matching exactly where your body rests against a double bass. The pickup is a David Gage Realist Copperhead. (There’s also an old Underwood on it in the photos. I was experimenting with blending the two. I’ve taken it off and have misplaced it.) It also comes with a very sturdy Yamaha cymbal stand, which is much stronger than the original stand, and a fitted case. The stand has a missing rubber foot but that’s never been a problem. The logo has worn off the headstock (pictured). The shoulder and back rests are removable and I have included the bag I store them in.I've just discovered the bag has an old set of Evah Pirazzi in it which I'll include in case you don't like the Dominants. I’m not going to be able to post this. I’m based in Manchester and am happy for people to come and try it out.
  7. From the impressions around the screw holes it looks like something like these may have been removed (see picture). I also have no idea what they are for.
  8. I just bought some cables from Etienne and they were delivered the next day. Quick comms. recommended
  9. Thanks franzbassist. I may drop him another email. It's been nearly 3 weeks. it may have slipped through the cracks on a busy day.
  10. I'd been looking at the FMC 2x8 https://fmc-audio.jimdo.com/produkte/8-boxen/2-x-8-boxen/ and the RevSound RS28V https://www.revsound.net/collections/bass-cabinets/products/rs28v I'm drawn to the RevSound but the FMC looks interesting. It would be mainly for double bass, though not exclusively. has anyone had any experience of either or both? I've been in touch with both of them but still haven't heard back from FMC about delivery, VAT and that that shall be unnamed (that makes the last question necessary).
  11. Lots of good stuff in Mr. Karr book. His youtube vids are good too. GLWTS
  12. Just bought a bass rack stand from Chris. Easy to deal with and rack was well packaged and swiftly posted. Recommended seller.
  13. Just bought some Tempera strings from Rabbie. Very easy to deal with. Strings were well packed and arrived safely. Excellent communication. (Next time I'll try not to give my old postcode as this confused the delivery driver.)
  14. This is one of the best things I ever bought for my bass. GLWTS
  15. I have a set of these on my fretless 4 string and have been really happy with them. Still lots of life in them and very kind to fingerboard. GLWTS.
  16. I used it with my double bass for a while. I tried it with blending 2 pickups using left and right inputs (similar to a handful of the posts above) but ultimately found it too fiddly for this. A lot of my gigs had a very limited setup time and the less I had to mess with EQ the better. Someone better versed at dialling in a sound quickly might get on well with it. I also used it on a function gig where I had to swap between upright and electric. I tried this several ways; similar to above using left and right input so I didn't need to change patches and also with a dedicated patch that I switched between for each instrument. I did need an A/B switcher for this but did somehow manage patches with left and right inputs but I can't remember how. Again even though the gig required me to get there 3 or 4 hrs before playing the bass seemed to only get about 30 seconds of sound check time so I never really got it right. One other thing to consider is input impedance. if you're using a piezo pickup then you may be better off with something higher than the 1 Mohm on the Helix (I think). I think my (old) Platinum has 10 m ohm. If you have an fdeck or similar you could plug into that first before going to the Helix. I just picked up a Fire-Eye Red-Eye which has made a big difference to the sound from my Full Circle. There's a talkbass thread in the amps/mics/pickups forum you might find interesting. Headway are bringing out a new version of the EDB 2 in November with a valve preamp. It might be worth waiting until that comes out to see if it might be more useful to you for double bass though you may still want the Helix for bass guitar and guitar. I hope this hasn't been too rambling.
