1. I've recently put in an order for one of these. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rafferty-HPF-Pre-2-Bass-Preamp-Adjustable-High-Pass-Filter-Phase-Switch/123260063978?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
2. I just bought a Maruszczyk Frog fretless from Geert and he was very easy and accommodating to do business with. The bass arrived safely today, very well packaged. I can recommend him. Dave
3. The seller’s price was in pounds. I did consider sending the fees as a friends payment but I worked out the fees in advance and just added it to the price to try to make it easier for the seller. Anyway, lesson learnt.
4. I haven't quite got to the bottom of this. I've had two replies from PayPal this morning, the 2nd within 30mins of me replying to the first which is encouraging. It seems the problem comes when converting the money within PayPal. They charge 2.5% if you convert all or part of your balance. What I can't quite understand is whether you can just withdraw it to you payment method automatically converted without the fee. I'm wondering if the seller and I had arranged for him to invoice me in Euros if the fees conversion fees would have been less (the 20p mentioned in the post above). If i get a clear 3rd reply from PayPal I'll update this. I'm working all weekend so I probably won't have time until early next week.
5. Today I persuaded a seller to use PayPal instead of bank transfer. I rung up Paypal and got a full breakdown of the fees (3.4% + 0.5% for cross border transaction + £0.20 for currency conversion...this last bit is important) and added this to the very fair, in fact very generous price he was selling his bass for. He'd had a less than great experience with them in the past but kindly tried them once more to make me happy. Apart from the rookie error of working out the fees on the original amount and not the larger amount Paypal paid him within a pound of the agreed price. All well and good so far. Paypal then asked if he wanted the money in stirling or euros. Euros he said. At this point Paypal paid him about 20eros below the conversion rate on all the sites we both checked. He was very good about it and didn't blame me at all but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I couldn't in good conscience recommend them in similar situations (cross border/currency). Basically I paid him £26 more in order for him to get nearly £20 less. I have written to them and asked for an explanation and will report back if I hear from them. I do use them a lot when paying for things online...maybe they'll see me as a valued customer...well a customer at least.
6. I’ve been thinking about getting a HPF. I use the one on my B3n for my bass guitar and the deep control on my fishman for my double bass. I do like the idea of having one separate from the B3n as I don’t always have room for it in a patch and also feel I’d rather have it a bit more hands on. I’d thought about getting in touch with Tom to make a version of the fDeck but would be interested in the hpf +lpf.
7. I'm having the same problem on my Mac (OS Sierra) with Safari but have just tried Chrome and the videos are visible
8. I emailed Zoom UK last week and they told me it will be out here in the first week of April.
9.
Hmmm - they are now showing it as "available for order" - so I suspect it is not actually in stock. I don't think anyone has it yet - not shipping til later in the month. Happy to be proved wrong though - I see it is showing estimated delivery 15th March - I had the 24th in my head for some reason. Sounds like they are starting to land...
Thomann have it down as Mar 24th.
10. I just bought a Wee Lush A/B box from Dan. He was easy to deal with and very understanding when I initially made an accidental balls up of the payment. Also a very fair price especially considering the postage was included.
11. Found it. It was in the safe place I put it .....and consequently forgot. Beeswax sounds interesting Joe.
12. I've managed to lose the putty that came with my Ehrlund and google is not proving to be my friend. We have UHU white tack at home but I'm not convinced on it's lack of oil as it's left marks on the walls where my wife put up some of my daughters pictures. Maybe it's different with varnish - I don't know. I can't find any Staedler white tack on line. Does anyone have a link for somewhere I can get some, preferably in the UK. Thanks.
13.
I looked at some of her books. The postal prices put me off a little especially as you can't view the books like you can in a shop, to see if they may be suitable or not.
They have some pages to view on Amazon and have the first 6 books on Kindle for about £7.50 total. Digital isn't everyone's cup of tea but a cheap option if you don't mind it.
14. I've heard back from Robinson's and, as I feared, the shipping is very expensive. They've found a slightly cheaper rate than the initial quote but it's still almost as much as the books.
15. Thanks Hector. I got the impression that the book dealt with application of Rabbath's 3 octave scales from his 3rd book. I have Rabbath's first three books. I'm not sure whether they cover the same ground and if I need both. I've read good reviews/recommendations on talkbass. Can you remember roughly how much the shipping from Robertson's was?
16. I'm trying to find copies of Hal Robinson's books, Boardwalkin' and Strokin'. The only place I've found them online is Robertsons in the US. Does anyone know of a UK seller?
17. Well. well, well. I've finally sold it. Many thanks to Sarah for her suggestion of Musical Chairs. I had 3 replies in the first 10 days, one very serious and it's now gone. My room looks a little odd without it leaning in the corner.
18.
Have you tried putting it on musical chairs?
I haven't. I should have another look at their site. I've not exactly been proactive about this. .................... Hopefully this will be the year I finally sell it but if not, see you in 2015 Phil.
19.
Is there some sort of prize for the longest-running Sale advert on Basschat? If not, I reckon there should be ...
If the prize is a sale then sign me up. This ad did disappear into the underbelly of the forums for quite a while as I didn't remember to bump it. I've not actually had anyone come and look at it, so it's not that it's being rejected after being played. I'm sure once someone finds their way to Manchester to try it it'll make room for the next longest running ad to get the record.
