  1. I think it was Fenders medieval bass, the Precision-Lute
  2. If it can’t be both (providing image essential as you say) then sound. If I’m going to see, let’s say an AC/DC tribute I don’t really care what they look like, I just want to hear those songs being played well. So what if the lead guitarist is in jeans instead of a schoolboy outfit, as long as he nails those solos all is well in the world.
  3. I think this just happens as we get older, listen to Axl Rose now, there’s none of the power and attack that he used to have though the tone is still there.
  4. Think you’re right, and he certainly plays some good stuff on it too, def not a case of bass there to make up the numbers on this show.
  5. Just watching it, am not a fan but he has a really strong voice, and a proper band playing, plus he genuinely looks like he’s having the time of his life up there. I think I approve.
  6. Yeah I’ll be sticking with my Ashdown gear but it’s great to see UK based companies now offering lightweight bass gear, Ashdown, Orange, Laney all getting in there with affordable gear that will hold pretty much any gig.
  7. Might not have been the best bass player but he did have one heck of an image. Which is of course why McLaren supported getting him in the band, whereas Rotten wanted to even things up in the mates dept.
  8. We just waited until we were all comfortable. The main driver was the drummer, as he has Crohn’s disease he’s on immuno-suppressants so has to be more careful, once he was ready to go so were we. With this rotten pandemic everyone has different situations, be they medical, family, work etc, and I think Jack’s reaction is the best, when all are ready resume, no putting conditions in.
  9. It looks kind of in the middle of the Ashdown RM and ABM ranges to me.
  10. Agree, that was a great album, just not a traditional Crue album, thought the guitar work on it was excellent

That’s a good idea, I did similar with their Para Driver, no matter what rig I was using FOH got the sound that was needed. Also meant as I was DI’d from that I could adjust eq/volume on whatever amp I was using for on stage sound without it interfering with the mix out front.
  12. Release your inner Lemmy!
  13. It’s gotta be the guy on the Old Spice bottle

KiOgon loom will be a good improvement, much better quality parts. That’s one area where Squier keep costs down, whereas the new loom will most likely be same parts as what go in US Fenders.
  15. It does seem to restrict the amount of cabs that can be connected. Sure we can all use our ears to make sure that cabs aren’t struggling but I like to have my cabs at least equal to the power rating of the amp, just makes me feel that bit more comfortable.
  16. Both sound great, I have the RM500 and the OriginAL pedal. I’d say that you can do more with the RM due to the combination of drive/compression/pre-shape, these make it very versatile but for a solid good bass sound the OriginAL hits it. I use the pedal as my home-practice sound and it’s a really nice sound, tho the valve-drive set to anything other than fully off is far too much for me. And after saying all that I’d be looking at FinnDaves RM800, and then keeping my eyes open for a lightweight cab that can handle 400watts at 8Ohms.

The number of times I nearly bought that one myself, they’re cracking basses, and a real amazement to my why Squier stopped them. Sure Matt Freeman may not be known too well outside of punk but these are amazingly good basses. Congrats.
  18. I had a Sterling by Musicman Ray34 and a “real” Stingray at the same time about 10 years ago. The quality and playability of the Ray34 was so near to the real one, the only difference being that it was slightly toppier/treblier/sizzlier but that old “in the mix who would notice” thing would apply, it was that slight. And given I bought the Ray34 new and the ‘Ray was about 10 years old it could have been any number of factors accounting for that.
  19. It’s funny but I’ve recently bought a 5-string Precision, going back to the 4 feels like picking up a toy.
  20. I remember using those in rehearsal rooms back in the late 80s, great amps.
  21. Thinner/faster, if you find a Precision neck too chunky the Jazz is a less of a handful solution.
  22. Blimey Mick, I bet you’re like dog with 2 of the proverbial re this, ASWAD free locally!
  23. They certainly sound very good on the YouTube review
