In my punk covers band the bassist uses a TC BH800 with two NY121 cabs and for gigs in a regular sized pub the amp is barely on, the set up has a really rich warm sound. So if you’re happy with your NY121 then that could be something to consider. Also worth checking out the Fender Rumbles if looking at combos. But my choice would be Ashdown, be it combos or head/cab.

Just got in from my first gig on guitar in 15 years. Punk covers band The Dogmattics at The Oddfellows Arms in Hemel doing the regular punk stuff plus a few non-punk but punked up songs. Went well, I made a few minor mistakes but given I’ve only been in the band since January, we’ve only had three rehearsals and we’re doing about 40 songs I won’t beat myself up about it. Thoroughly enjoyed it, plenty of good comments from people who have seen the band before which was nice, and I’d almost forgotten what it was like to get paid for playing in a band, this gig being a nice reminder.

Yep, with some tweaking you can get very near the ABM sound with the RM amps.

Ive found that the main thing that happens when I double up on a cab whose sound I like is that it makes me smile loads.

My first gig with my new band, classic punk covers with a few curveballs thrown in including the biggest one of all, I’m playing lead guitar. But to maintain some normality it is a black/black/maple guitar.

I’ve just got myself the Studio 10 for home and possible popping round band mates places for a jam use, has a great sound to it.

If you want to keep the core tone you currently have the TC Spark Booster is a nice little pedal. If ok with a little tone flavour then the Ampeg Scrambler is good when used sparingly, think natural break-up/growl rather than distortion/drive.

Well I need to get down to lifting/carrying less so I may well keep my RM500 and end up with a Barefaced cab. I love the Ashdown cab sound but my back appears to be worsening daily so having to look at practical solutions. Not gonna make any rash decisions tho.

Although I love my Ashdown ABM set up (with NEO cabs) I’m sadly thinking the same and looking at the Fender Rumble. I’ve heard them live and they really are great sounding amps.

As above, sadly as age marches forwards I`m considering making life a tad easier. I don`t have any problems at the moment with my Precisions but am just thinking of options to start looking at. Obviously as a Fender man there`s the Mustangs to consider but I want to look further afield and the Sandbergs seem to tick a lot of boxes, so was wondering if anyone uses these and if so what the opinions are.

Same, and have had all sorts of them, high-end, budget, all worked fine, never any problems, aside from accepting that I’m no longer able to cart them about.

At last nights rehearsal (lead guitar in punk covers) I used an Orange Rocker 32 and was able to get some really nice controllable feedback. IMO it really adds to a song if done properly.

Makes a lot of sense. Especially to their chiropractor. But seriously, they obviously put a lot of thought into both sound and image, fair play to them.

They look great, I’ll bet they sound even better!

Is there a more pointless job in the world than being the man who installs them?

The Vintage Tony Butler Precision that I had was really not that far away in quality/playability/sound from my Fender US Precisions. If I weren’t such a “I have to play US Fenders” person a couple of the TBs would be more than sufficient for my gigging needs. But at the end of the day I just simply prefer my Fenders, I’ve found the specific range that just suits me perfectly, the 2013-16 US Standards. I get so much more enjoyment playing the maple fretboard versions of this range than any other basses.

Def need/want as @Paul S says. I want - and have - Fender US Precisions, but my needs would easily be fulfilled by Squier Classic Vibe Precisions. But the “it’s just a lump of wood”, well that could be considered a bit demeaning towards those that make the instruments.
