This Royal Mail strike is really something....
Lozz196 replied to lidl e's topic in General Discussion
Not sure about all working practices that are being looked at but I can understand why RM want to change some - maybe this has already been changed, maybe it was a practice that only happened in the depot he worked at but it`s what used to happen, my mate who was a postman told me about it: 2 postmen, Paul & Pete. Paul is running a bit short on funds so gets Pete to pull a days sickie. Pete gets paid for this day whilst at home and not sick at all. Pauls duty is 8am - 5pm. Always finishes his round by 11.30 so always home by midday. As Pete is off Paul covers Petes duty after doing his own, is back at the depot by 3pm, is home by 3.30pm. Paul is still at home an hour and a half earlier than his scheduled duty time. Paul receives a full days overtime (at overtime rates) for covering Petes duty. Now I can understand unions looking after their members and T&Cs, fair play, no-one wants to be run over rough-shod by their employer and rightly so unions look after their members, but the above, well I can see why any company would want such T&Cs changed. -

Yep, what the salary could afford in 2012 it would no way meet now, even without the situation of this year with heightened inflation & fuel. -
How has your taste in music changed over the years?
Lozz196 replied to TheGreek's topic in General Discussion
I still like all the music I liked from when I was younger, but like much more now including a lot of stuff I didn’t like back when I was younger. -

Yep, and then 6 months on they state they’re losing 700 million a year. As Andy Furey of the CWU said, that shows incredibly poor management to go from so good to so poor so quickly. Now some of that 700M will be attributable to the strike action no doubt, but nowhere near that sum. -

The postman who delivers to our workplace says that a good few contracts have been lost due to the strikes, with one specifically stating unreliability as the reason. -
My band is on Radio Caroline this afternoon!

Excellent, sadly I won’t get the chance to listen but this is great, you must be really chuffed Paul -

Let’s all remember that the strikes affecting the transmission of mail are due to Royal Mail employees striking, and nothing to do with any employee of Post Office Ltd. Although there is currently a dispute with Post Office Ltd with some members also striking this dispute is nothing to do with the transmission of mail as they don’t deal with this. -

Agree, the selling of the main post offices to my recall started in the late 80s/early 90s (my first experience of this was ‘91) and has continued since then at a steady flow even after Royal Mail - who until 2012 owned The Post Office - were sold. The Post Office since 2012 owned wholly by government and no longer any part of Royal Mail. -
What is the most you'd personally pay for a new bass?
Lozz196 replied to lidl e's topic in Bass Guitars
I think around the £1500 mark is the most, however in the main as I like Precisions and they’re not exactly rare in general I prefer to buy used. -
I had a Hartke HA4000, with XL 210 & 115 cabs, was an excellent but heavy rig. I used an HA3500 with a Transporter 410 cab. Was a dreadful but heavy rig.

My life in music summed up in one Meme

Yep I’ve made no serious money from music but the experiences I’ve had through learning how to play a musical instrument are invaluable, wouldn’t trade them at all. -
Low-ish tension roundwounds, similar feel to TI Flats?
Lozz196 replied to Paul S's topic in Accessories and Misc
The most comfortable steel rounds I’ve played were D’Addario Pro Steels, that may have been due to the tension. I chose 45-100s so would think that a lighter gauge would be even more comfy. Most comfortable nickels have been Ernie Ball Super Slinky, again 45-100. -

Agree, I love checking out a bands guitars/basses/pedals/amps, preferably before the performance but if not possible then afterwards. -
Yep, many years ago I sold a Marshall 1936 2x12 cab on the bay and two bidders went up against each other to my benefit as it bizarrely went for more than what they were sold for new.
-
If it went to the Deep South it would now be hay-eft.
-
Looks like you’re going for a refin instead then @Stub Mandrel 🤣 But seriously as per @Reggaebass as the mojo is mostly/all yours I’d keep it as it is.
-
Yep, get out the Flapometer
-
I`m sure we can manage a 2023 relay - I`m J8 on M1 (20 miles north of London) I could get it up to the start of the M6 as part of it.
-
Definitely. I`m quite willing to drive for a meet up am not posting items like basses or guitars. If it takes me longer to sell as a result, well as the French say, c`est la vie!

Sorry chaps, didn’t mean specifically re delivery, it could have been if people had messaged him asking what colour the teapot he was selling was when the ad stated red teapot and the 13 photos all showed the colour. But he’s def no keyboard warrior, having seen him deal with a good many people in 1-2-1 situations when attacked (never saw him go first) he ain’t no shrinking violet in that aspect.
-
A mate of mine used to tackle this by copying & pasting the text from the ad into the reply, then increasing the size of the font to massively large, and say I’ve attached the ad and made it easier for you to read. He then, when that didn’t seem to work either would just reply that he refused to sell to them as they were too stupid to read and understand what had been written. Harsh but fair maybe?

I think that’s the way to go, play what feels best. Over the past few years I’ve been obsessing with tone and this and that, and have come full circle to deciding to play what I enjoy playing the most, and that I’ll just get as near as I can to the sound I want.

Fender Precision 5s are quite wide, pretty sure it’s 19mm

Sounds like a good week ahead, ably supported by Ashdown

It might all have been the intensity of the performance.Seriously, this can happen. Many years ago I did a gig with a band I’d been in, got asked to stand in. After the gig a guy I knew asked what I was on as my performance was apparently quite good. Nothing, other than a few pints of lager, I was just chuffed to be doing a gig again and put my all into it. All that said tho, I reckon MK was like Tony Montana in Scarface, head in a pile of it.
