Three things: Hearing the bass in Seasons of The Sun by Terry Jacks, I just loved the sound, no idea what it was but from then on I listened out for it in other songs. Seeing the “live” bit in the Bohemian Rhapsody video by Queen, I knew at that point I wanted to play music when I got older (and I could also hear John Deacons bass, that sound again). Hearing Pretty Vacant by The Sex Pistols, I now knew what type of music I wanted to play.

Agree. Although I prefer Dolly Partons version as there’s a vulnerability to it that Whitney Houstons version doesn’t have, the latter is truly a vocal masterpiece.

It’s most probably an easy thing to deal with, I had something similar with mine and Ashdown sorted it for me (bizarrely made a similar noise when the mute button was pressed). But I bought it new, if it had been used and played up like yours has after 2 days I’d more than likely want the seller to take it back.

I’ve always thought of a Year I Started Playing bass, as in if I could have afforded anything when I started in 1980 at the age of 15 what would I have bought. Inevitably it would have been a Fender Precision but at 15 would I have gone white/rosewood or black/maple?

To quote "I`m down to one bass" Basschat response "Traitor!" But on a serious note once I stop playing live I`ll go down to just two and that`s only because I can`t bear to part with my all-time fave Precision due to the history we have together, even though I rarely play it anymore having switched to short-scale which suits me better (even when sitting down & playing at home), otherwise one would be plenty enough.

I had something similar on a cab and it was the tweeter that was causing it, not sure what the exact problem was as got it changed. Might be one of the cones.

If you`re all on leave over that period treat it as a night out for the band, arrange to be driven there if at all possible, have a social, a laugh and hope that as it`s over the festive period there are more people out than usually would be. Sometimes the benefits can be different than financial, when my old band started out we were doing multi-genre gigs (which the others hated doing, as did I) but I insisted we did them, we got used to working as a unit in front of an audience we didn`t want or need to impress but we perfected how we worked so that once we were gigging to the audiences we wanted we were much better. Playing wise we didn`t change that much but we got used to how each other set up/broke down equipment, what was needed in monitors, who needed prompts on set-lists etc, all things like that, we gained in experience as a unit.

Depends on the size of the stages you play, in regular pub sized venues there’s not much between them but get on a very big stage and the depth of sound from the ABM becomes apparent. That said due to back issues I sold my ABM and kept my RM and it doesn’t concern me at all playing big stages, it’s not that the RM isn’t up to it, it is, it’s just that the ABM is more up to it if that makes sense.

Yep, adds some drive, warmth and harmonics making the sound bigger but nothing like the OTB, having had both I’d put the gain/drive of the ABM600 on full to be less than the OTB at 10 o’clock.

My impressions of the ABM600 were the same, the extra couple of sliders make a real difference in the sharpness of the sound. I also found it to be quite a bit louder than the ABM500 that I had.

It’s wider than the stage!!

From the photo the E seems to be sitting in the nut ok, as such as they all sound ok if there isn’t any noticeable difference in feel then leave them on.

I think I`ll be first in to recommend the Fender Rumble combos - the 100 watt version is only 9.97 kg so I`d check these out, they`re not too expensive (£300ish), sound great and I`m sure your back will be forever thanking you.

I’ve been like this for years, anything other than a Precision such as a Jazz, Stingray, Thunderbird just sounded wrong to my ears when played by me. I now use Mustangs and they sound similar enough for me to not experience this, although it’s now a while since I played my Precisions.

I agree, I just couldn’t work out how to do it, this computer lark def not my forte - without the thingy over the e of course 🤣

£690 is excellent, only sad that I couldn`t make it there myself.
