I regret not taking it more seriously and not realising the direction I should have taken. Would have been dependent on other factors though.

Precision is probably the easiest to get a workable sound from.

In my band we tend to rather sarcastically refer to the singer as our leader and most important one. He gets it, he’s not a sensitive chap so fully understands we’re having a laugh.

I recall reading an interview with Glen Matlock (he of Sex Pistols fame) and he said that the integral piece of equipment for his sound wasn’t the bass or strings but his Fender amp. Now thinking about this I’d probably say a Tech21 pedal in one shape or another, be it BDDI, VTDI or Para Driver they all have the Tech21 sound and this has been pretty much a constant with me over the last 20 or so years. So, what’s the integral piece of equipment for your sound?

Deon Estus was pretty good on his Wham material, great bass lines and tone.

I really liked Bubbles of Booze & Glory when he was with them, great melodic bass lines & playing.

Yep I’ve a couple of shirts that are only worn when on band duty so as to fit in with the overall image, never wear shirts otherwise as I hate them (too many years in shirt & tie at work account for this intense & permanent hatred).

Will work fine, quite possibly the best of both worlds, older heavier (both in weight & sound) amp, newer lightweight cab with the power handling capabilities of todays gear. I did it for a while with an Ashdown ABM amp and a Barefaced Big Twin.

Same, I loved mine but was way too heavy, used to have to keep it in my car all the time as couldn’t get it up the stairs to my flat on my own. Did sound great though.

Fingers crossed it will be The Pretenders, dependent on ticket availability of course, they`re touring early next year. Edit - Ticket now bought.

I’m. happy with my gear, similarly JMJ Mustangs, but into a Sansamp BDDI v2 then into wherever is there. I have an Ashdown RM500 EVO2 and a Warwick Gnome iPro, plus two Ashdown ABM PRO NEO 210 cabs but have never needed to use my own amp set up since leaving my last band in 2019. I do wish I’d been able to use the JMJs through my old Ashdown ABM600 410 & 210 set up, think I would have really loved that as although I’ve been Precision nuts for years I seem to be able to get a sound I prefer from the JMJ.

It wasn’t an overkill stack for the the gigs I was doing at the time, though for many gigs the 410 was plenty enough so I left the 210 out. Tools for the job, don’t be a man with a fork in a world of soup.

Agree, I had a BF410 & 210 stack, replaced it with an Ashdown ABM410 & 210 stack as I preferred the sound. Would the BF stack have gone louder, well probably, but at band volume settings the sound was no bigger or fuller than the Ashdown.

Without looking through all of this have we had Buns & Roses?

Ended up buying the bass, well that indeed says a lot, decent review there and makes me think I may well check these out.

I have to stay within a 15 minute journey time to my workplace, SE Bash at least an hour away. Tried to swap but the rest of my colleagues apparently have lives (selfish swines one and all).

Agree @PaulWarning, in my last band I’d try new basses/amps/cabs pedals etc and they’d just say “it’s a bass, it goes boom in the background”.

I found that with the 10s I couldn’t get the sharp abrasive top end that I wanted, they were just a little too smooth sounding. But my sound was Lemmy/JJ Burnel/Duff McKagan so unless needing that sort of high end the 10s would be fine. Whereas as above the 12s are much cleaner and more hi-fi sounding.

Def the latter for me, I’ve been described as looking like I was staring people out whilst on stage when in fact I was just looking at the audience to see if they were enjoying the gig. I try to remember to smile as I’d prefer to look simple & happy than aggressive.

That’s a remark which I resemble.

This has to be one of the best opportunities out there, good luck to whoever gets it, would be great if it is a Basschatter.
