Thanks for the AMT review - I've been keeping my eye on this thread as I've got a 105Q that's been sitting in its box for a while so last weekend I took it along to my monthly-ish "effects familiarisation" solo rehearsal session (ie where I can make as much noise as possible with my boxes without alarming the neighbours, other band members and local wildlife) No tone suck from mine, which was a relief. That was with a Jazz Geddy Lee sig and after TC Polytune, Analogman compressor, MXR chorus and OC-2; before Mammoth close overdrive and Mooer Lofi Machine. Next time I'll be taking along my Wahoo for comparison, assuming I've figured out how it works by then. Good luck with the knee!

[/quote] What's "figure out basslines" got to do with "make and read tabs"? The former is one of the most valuable listening skills things you can acquire - I hear something, can I play it? If you can then write it down (in standard notation in preference tabs), so much the better. I'm looking forward to your FFYL off the cuff video as well!

Gosh. Thanks for the heads-up, but sadly a bit too late notice for me to make it. Just seen a couple of clips on youtube, great stuff. (although the guitar playing sometimes distracts from the bassist)

I saw him last year at the Borderline, and that was a cracking gig (it came within a week or two of Ian Anderson's TAAB show at Hammersmith, for double Tull value) I missed it this time around due to triple booking that night (Polar Bear and Chrome Hoof being the other two contenders; Polar Bear won, Hoof were playing Saturday night as well so I saw them then). Do you have a setlist for the show?

Say someone can't or won't play all the parts they're supposed to, you employ someone who's carefully (or not it would appear in this case) hidden to cover the bits that the player is missing. That's the stunt musician.

[/quote] re the stunt drummer, this just in from pal at the Brum gig. "The stunt drummer was well concealed and there was a lot of gubbins on the stage behind Mick's massive golden kit. Maybe the stunt drummer had the night off in Manchester? Yes, there was a bit halfway through the gig where they went all 'harking back to the old days just us four jamming together'. They wheeled out a normal sized kit at the front of the stage for Mick (it looked like a child's toy with him sat there). Stevie and Lyndsey were hanging by Mick, all great friends. John McVie was still lurking in a dark bit on his own in the corner. The roadies did take Mick's little kit apart straight afterwards and you could see bits being chucked around backstage. I missed the next few songs because I was distracted by everyone around me pointing and going 'look, they're taking the kit apart' This wasn't the kit that the stunt drummer was playing. He was most definitely still there, beavering away throughout the show. Occasionally catching a carelessly flung sweaty towel or cap from Mick. I am very rarely wrong where stunt drummers are concerned."

A Genesis tribute band I played with took up enough space in a cramped Woolwich pub to get in the way of the entrance to the ladies loo. Also, the pub's floor around their was tiled (say no more). So my part in "Apocalypse in 9/8" also featured "lifting double-neck to allow access to and exit from the khazi" and "chasing bass pedals around the floor". And yes as the evening went on the tiles got wetter (with beer that is) and of course someone went arse over tit spilling their drink everywhere.

[/quote] We got a 5-piece band on stage at the 12 Bar, including keys. Someone took a picture looking down from the balcony, it looks like we're queueing for a bus. Same band played at the Water Rats another time. The gear storage room didn't have a ceiling at the time.

Lightweights the lot of them. I sold my Moog Taurus I bass pedals (you'll find the ad elsewhere on BC) to a chap in Switzerland. We spent a few emails to and fro over the course of a couple of days finding the best courier/insurance options, struck a deal and it all went according to plan. I had to make my own box (from 2x TV boxes from the local self-storage place) and the bubble wrap/packaging tape man did well out of it as well. Job done.

Didn't really get it on the first couple of listens. Much prefer In A Silent Way, which blew my mind when I first heard it.

I was in Hereford for a wedding on Saturday. I expect to be sober again next Tuesday fortnight (there's some very nice beer out that way. and wine. and fizz...)

Probably a bunch of Chapman Stick on there as well. It's recently been released on Blu-Ray and DVD after years of VHS-only status - much to the annoyance of purchasers of the recent So25 box set which included the DVD (no Blu-Ray) version of the show. On the other hand, there's a copy of the "Play" promo video collection included with the Blu-Ray version to sweeten the deal. I'm just glad this show's seeing light of day after all this time (my VHS copy is wearing out). Brilliant stuff.

[/quote] When I saw a (text only) copy of the DGM Live announcement, referring to 'Mr Bill', I immediately thought Bruford as well. Still, B. Rieflin is a great drummer - he played with the Toyah/Fripp 'Humans' project recently, and also the DGM band Ten Seconds a while back. Look for a track called 'The Last Three Minutes'

I'm hoping there'll be a 64 Spoons influence in the new Crim. This lineup us great news, looking forward to the new sounds - some time in late 2014 according to TLev's facebook feed.
