1.
Part 2... Tim Lefebvre comes across as such a nice bloke. https://www.youtube....h?v=jc37lAINTBw
Brilliant - thanks for the update.
2. He'll never get that under his chin.
3.
Peter Gabriel - The Book Of Love.
You beat me to it. "The book of love has music in it, in fact that's where music comes from" *gulp* You can barely see it in this clip, but when the "book" opens at this point in the backdrop video, there's Tony Levin, Ged Lynch and David Rhodes as stick men waving. Lovely. The Book Of Love was one of the readings at my wedding, which is why it's in my top 3 blubbers. The other reading was In My Life... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUDje4cTev0 And we had this sung by our mutual friend who played fairy godmother several years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YH9QBocSZAs No, there's just something in my eye
4. there's a moshing community?
5. "Sorry sir, this is a fish & chip restaurant"
6.
I was going to point out that the Bass player, Vibes, Xylo and Marimba players are all left handed... But someone in the comments has mentioned that the film is backwards.
They were all the rage back in the day. Called Soundies, they were played on a contraption called a Panoram, where they would appear "right way round" (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panoram and specifically https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reg_Kehoe_and_his_Marimba_Queens)
7. I've got a few things that might help - a Ditto X2 looper with it's half speed function engaged, a volume pedal, some synth pedals. What's really handy is the time and patience to sit with it all and grok until you get what you need. It's this last bit that usually eludes me.
8.
Similar things happen with some venues in London, if you`ve a gig booked In some venues one of their clauses is that you don't play any other London venues within one month.
Yeah, no one pays any attention to that though.
9.
What to do 23&24?
Sleep! No, don't. SF is a brilliant town.
10.
Ah, the Comedy. The only gig I did where not only were the originals bands not paid (which is fairly common) but were told (just before going on stage) that we had to pay £5 per amp if we wanted to use the back line we were told would be provided for us. How we laughed!
Take it out of my fee, yeah?
11. Probably not released yet, I'll update the thread when P&E show part 2.
12. Buena Vista Cafe near Clapham North station?
13. We researched it for a potential venue. Reports were (I didn't go there) it would've been a bit snug for us, a 6-piece jazz band. We play regularly at the Tooting Tram & Social - nice big stage. Lots of rooms at The Bedford in Balham as well.
14.
Anything by Oasis.
don't think i've heard that one
15. with Juan Alderete on pedalsandeffects.com http://www.pedalsandeffects.com/blog/2016/3/7/interview-tim-lefebvre-on-david-bowies-black-star
16. I was thinking cor this is a bit difficult, then realised I had four of the six parts of that concert open and playing at the same time. Have reduced this to just part 3, and have started again.
17. Band 4 only. Band 1 won't be gigging, so no thanks. Band 2 looks good but they don't know the difference between "enquiry" and "inquiry", so no thanks. Band 3 could be promising but don't know how to use hyphens, apostrophes or capital letters, so no thanks. ps. does "playing out" mean gigging? I've not heard it used in this context before, it usually means minimally-supervised communal kids street playtime here.
18. OMG. All of 801 Live. In case you're not familiar with Mr McCormick... https://www.youtube....h?v=UkGXUn0Kuuw Thanks!
19.
Immense pressure to do that gig
Not helped by "pressure" being the only word sung by the band in the otherwise instrumental intro
20. A million times better than Lady Gaga's effort. Dave has said previously of Lorde, "he told her that listening to her music "felt like listening to tomorrow"."
21.
Thanks! Keep your eyes on that link, I'll refresh it a week or so before the gig.
Done! Although the link is now... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/262929-jazz-fusion-evening-in-at-tooting-tram-social-sw17-thursday-march-3rd/
22. A bit of a different flavour to this month's On Broadway gig at the Tooting Tram & Social - as usual my band Velcro Pelmet will be appearing, but we'll be first on in support of prog band The Far Meadow, who will be doing a 90 minute headline set, starting at 9.30pm. VP will be on about 8.15pm, doors at 7pm. As usual it's free to get in, and the beer's good! The evening's facebook event is at https://www.facebook.com/events/1681630498776880/ Check out The Far Meadow at http://www.thefarmeadow.com and www.facebook.com/thefarmeadow And Velcro Pelmet at http://www.velcropelmet.com and https://www.facebook.com/VelcroPelmet
23. Like that Scandanavian fella with the hair who was popular last year, I can't listen to it but I wish I was that good.
