Genesis - Six of The Best - 2/10/82
toneknob replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
Does the 1980 show exist in a cleaned-up official version? I've got a bootleg of it, not sure which version. It sounds ok but if there's a better one around I wouldn't mind hearing it. -
I've had electronic goods that just don't work after been sitting unused for ages. Can't explain it.
I know drummers like that.

Genesis - Six of The Best - 2/10/82
toneknob replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
I hear rumours that Peter Gabriel has a film of it, but then again Mike Rutherford's said both "I'm glad it wasn't filmed, it was a bit ropey" and "We should have filmed it in hindsight" (paraphrasing both). -
The trouble I have is that the velcro bond (hook to loop) is stronger than the glue bond between the velcro and board/pedal. So in some warm-ish weather recently the glue got a bit melty and so pedals came away from the board leaving a double-layer of velcro (ie hook later and loop layer) still attached on one side or the other. (The velcro is that which comes with a Pedaltrain case by the way). Anyone else get this?

Stop Nuisance Neighbours Closing Venues Petition
toneknob replied to ezbass's topic in General Discussion
The petition to save the Curzon cinema in Mayfair has had the desired effect and the mayor's putting legislation in to place to put the responsibility for soundproofing on the complaining party: http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/sadiq-khan-plans-tough-new-rules-for-developers-as-he-wades-into-curzon-cinema-row-a3352481.html -

It depends on how long your piece of string is, but probably less than a fiver depending on whether you want a signature, tracking, delivery this week or next week etc. Have a look at http://www.royalmail.com/price-finder - most likely a Small Parcel 101g to 500g.

Really enjoyed this on Later Live this week. It passed the litmus test to bother with recording the Friday show as well. Kala U-Bass, right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QDx0G1A9Z8

Don't suppose they're doing a Wayward->Bohemian medley kind of like Dream Theater did that time? Ffwd to 4m30s if you're not keen on the usual DT bluster. It avoids the trickier parts of Bohemian Rhapsody for starters. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhDPIgM1xQw

Shergold twin neck 4/8 string...
toneknob replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
He describes it as rare which I absolutely agree with. Having followed these since Mike Rutherford started using them I've never seen one in this configuration.
Serial number 8401 is roughly translated as "8-string neck, 4-string neck, 01st off the production line" (take with pinch of salt of course) -
Shergold twin neck 4/8 string...
toneknob replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
"Tatty case", how dare he. The case actually belonged to my other Shergold, the 12/4 Custom Double. When I bought the 4/8 originally from a bloke in Egham, it had no case so I had one built. The 12/4 got the new case, as it was still on regular gig duty, and the ahem "tatty" one was passed down to the 4/8. -
Shergold twin neck 4/8 string...
toneknob replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It was mine and it needed work when I bought it as the necks and bridges had been swapped around - the 8 string saddles had been reversed too. The 4 string bass side was lovely. It was very heavy and cumbersome - I bought it because I'm a bit of a Shergold fan and had to own one of these albeit briefly as this was pure GAS! I sold it to this guy last year and he's taking a bit of a hit on it - so it's a bargain if you need an excuse to employ a chiropractitioner!
It was mine as well. Agreed the 4-string side was fabulous, but could never do much with the 8-string side. I traded it in at Wunjo as p/x on my Takamine TB-10, nose around in the basschat vaults and you'll find that story. -
Excellent, Thanks toneknob. I was at the friends and family show, amazing!
Excellent - I think I'd have had a little episode at that Cirkus-Fracture-Lizard section of the first half had I been at that one.

And hot off the DGM press, "As promised, we are uploading a song from every night of the 2016 European tour - a slightly random selection from the setlist taken direct from the soundboard for those who are either following the tour at a distance, or seek a memento of the gig that just rattled their senses. And what better place to start than "Easy Money" from the family and friends show at Aylesbury." Start here: http://www.dgmlive.com/archive.htm?artist=35&show=2083

Here's last night's setlist: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/king-crimson/2016/waterside-theatre-aylesbury-england-3bfc6c24.html Click through for Sunday and Saturday. Also gear-wise TLev was using an Ampeg amp (not visible) and a Kemper Profiler, which he was tinkering with throughout, and is modern enough for me to not really understand.

I saw the second show (third if you count the "Friends & Family" secret show on Saturday) last night at the Waterside in Aylesbury. New to the set were Lizard, Cirkus, Fracture, Heroes, as well as the usual rotation of old and new hits. No Larks' Tongues for us last night though. Tony Levin on fine form as ever armed with 4- and 5-string Stingrays, NS Electric Upright and Chapman Stick (no fretless apart from the NS).

Any of you cover/pub bands run with two drummers ?
toneknob replied to Les's topic in General Discussion
I've seen the tribute band G2 use a 2nd drummer occasionally.
I once played with The Carpet Crawlers, who do a two-drum show. Their next "tour" is the 1986/7 Invisible Touch show. 30 years old already. -
+1 for Goldwave. I've got Reaper as well, just not got around to using it much yet.
-
Genesis - but this was before We Can't Dance and Invisible Touch (just about) so it's ok.

That Victor Wooten bloke, he's rubbish, he is. There, I said it!
toneknob replied to TrevorR's topic in General Discussion
Meanwhile if anyone's interested, Rubbish Vic and his mates the awful drummer Dennis Chambers and some sax bloke Bob Franceschini are playing in London at the Rah Rah Rooms on Piccadilly (this last bit is serious despite not sounding it) Tickets at https://www.ticketabc.com/events/victor-wooten-trio/ (and others), blurb at http://www.rahrahroom.com/rah-rah-live/ -
It's Enterprise that taught me the valuable rehearsal room lesson of "if you want to sing, always bring your own mic"
-
We rehearsed a few times there last year and we all struggled with the heat and smell in there. We couldn't tell if it was BO, urine, damp, or a mixture of all three.
Sigh, reminds me of happy times in Enterprise...

I wish I was as rubbish as Vic
