I started off (20 years or so ago) with the "classics": Dark Side, WYWH, THe Wall, Animals but these days I'm more a fan of Obscured By Clouds and Meddle, plus the Live At Pompeii film.
Anybody else see the gig at the Rah Rah Rooms, London last night? Throughly enjoyed it and the time flew by. Three very talented guys making great music. **Minor rant alert** There should be plenty of YouTube footage available soon. I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who watch a live gig through a mobile phone screen!!!!! One chap in front of me last night would take a dozen or so photos and then spend the next 3 to 4 minutes reviewing them. Dennis Chambers had at least two cameras pointing directly at him for the whole gig, from about 1 foot from his kick drum. Why? Put your phone in your pocket and enjoy the gig.
Agree about the phone use. It's not a great venue for music, it's usually a club/cabaret/dinner jazz type of place - where the low stage works with everyone sitting, for example. So once everyone puts their phone up, you really can't see much at all. Really enjoyed Vic's playing as ever, especially his looping solo, which I watched from afar in the bar area where it's slightly raised, the audio is piped through at comfortable volume and you can lean on the bar. Which brings me to my next point: £6.50 for a 330ml bottle of Sol, Heineken or Peroni, poured into a black plastic beaker. I'm quite used to London prices but this works out to £11.19 a pint. Play at Under The Bridge again next time Vic!
With us noone needs to get back. If you haven't crossed the date off on the bands Google calendar and something goes in, it's in, and your doing it or being replaced.
Only three of a six-piece band bothered filling in our Google Calendar. Make that one less these days.

Drummer. Never answers emails, text only. He's quite good though.
Thankyou that would be great cheers Bob
Give this a go: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/h1uapz97un7z6yd/AADK6LOrxT53cTM-AY0dDLMIa?dl=0 -
Shame the 12 Bar had to go though. I think it's the sax shop that'll be knocked through to make an alley direct from the tube station. As previously said Wunjo's are being shunted around to renovate the shops one at a time. Last time I asked when they'd be taking over the hairdressers.

Highway Star Deep Purple accurate tab anyone??
toneknob replied to thebigyin's topic in General Discussion
Highway Star was transcribed in the January 2012 issue of Bass Player magazine, I've got it here. I can scan it if it's of interest - I've already spotted a couple of differences to the transcription above. I've no idea which is more accurate mind you. -
Anyone play in an instrumental only band?
toneknob replied to James Nada's topic in General Discussion
Yep, my band does versions of jazz-rock classics from Metheny, Billy Cobham, Weather Report, Mike Stern, Jaco, Mahavishnu and that lot, plus some of our own stuff in a similar vein. Goes without saying we don't make any money from it! That's not the point really, it's a laugh to play and the punters like it. It can be fun and games getting gigs though. I try to get bandmates to not say "fusion" when describing us. -
Currently got a Trace Elliot SMX Dual and an Analogman Bi-Comprossor. On the shopping list is a Darkglass Super Symmetry, when I've sold something to make room on the pedal shelf for it.
I loved Mick's playing, truly a unique voice on the instrument. I was going to post a bunch of links to collaborations not mentioned above, like Dali's Car, Polytown (with David Torn and Terry Bozzio), Bill Nelson, Midge Ure etc. but instead here is a track from the live Jansen Barbieri Karn album called 'Playing In A Room With People' as that is the one I seem to return to a lot:
That JBK album is brilliant. Saday, Maday is originally from MK's solo record Bestial Cluster which I can't recommend enough.
Tracy Wormworth, always wondered who played on that tour. She does a lovely drop D bass line on If You Love Somebody etc which was a bonus live track with one of his singles. It was nice to hear him back on the bass for his second album after Daryll Jones did the first and their's some lovely bass on it.
Had a quick rummage for the If You Love Sombody live but can only find earlier (Bring On The Night era) clips. Got any links to the Tracy version? Wooden spoon bonus round: Temptation/Frustration etc. etc.
I believe what he meant was that he didnt want them just sitting about doing nowt with there lives cos they would just get all the old mans money. Also, he is a Geordie, he has a sense of humor.
As a comedian he should stick to bass-playing
Two pages of Sting-stuff, and nobody's mentioned his Tantric bonking yet! What's happened to Basschat??!!
I was going to mention that in another 8-10 pages or so.

Love The Police and a fair chunk of his solo output. I remember saying to a friend around the time of the Lute album "it's really hard staying a Sting fan sometimes". Didn't think much of his recent session on Jools either. I missed The Police first time round but caught them in 2007 in Vienna (brilliant - one of a few standing gigs they did) and Wembley Arena (so so). I saw him first at the Human Rights Now show at Wembley Stadium in 198something, round about the time of Nothing Like The Sun, and on the tour for the same album at Wembley Arena. Bassist then was Tracy Wormworth from The Waitresses! (that's her on Christmas Wrapping). I saw the Back To Bass show a couple of years ago as well, that was pretty good. Added props for some brilliant basslines in The Police, agree Ten Sumner's Tales is his best. Also love The Lazarus Heart from NLTS, Jeremiah Blues Pt 1, Dream Of The Blue Turtles (with Demolition Man on Bring On The Night - wow), Moon Over Bourbon St, live album All This TIme is surprisingly good. Bonus points for ongoing use of Moog Taurus synth pedals. Wooden spoon for the "greatest hits with orchestra" thing, trying to be too clever-clever, the Lute album, the musical, the beard, buddy-buddy tours with Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon, telling his kids they're not inheriting anything.

So there is. I'll dig it out later. -
Genesis - Six of The Best - 2/10/82
toneknob replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
Does the 1980 show exist in a cleaned-up official version? I've got a bootleg of it, not sure which version. It sounds ok but if there's a better one around I wouldn't mind hearing it. -
I've had electronic goods that just don't work after been sitting unused for ages. Can't explain it.
I know drummers like that.

Genesis - Six of The Best - 2/10/82
toneknob replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
I hear rumours that Peter Gabriel has a film of it, but then again Mike Rutherford's said both "I'm glad it wasn't filmed, it was a bit ropey" and "We should have filmed it in hindsight" (paraphrasing both). -
The trouble I have is that the velcro bond (hook to loop) is stronger than the glue bond between the velcro and board/pedal. So in some warm-ish weather recently the glue got a bit melty and so pedals came away from the board leaving a double-layer of velcro (ie hook later and loop layer) still attached on one side or the other. (The velcro is that which comes with a Pedaltrain case by the way). Anyone else get this?

Stop Nuisance Neighbours Closing Venues Petition
toneknob replied to ezbass's topic in General Discussion
The petition to save the Curzon cinema in Mayfair has had the desired effect and the mayor's putting legislation in to place to put the responsibility for soundproofing on the complaining party: http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/sadiq-khan-plans-tough-new-rules-for-developers-as-he-wades-into-curzon-cinema-row-a3352481.html -

It depends on how long your piece of string is, but probably less than a fiver depending on whether you want a signature, tracking, delivery this week or next week etc. Have a look at http://www.royalmail.com/price-finder - most likely a Small Parcel 101g to 500g.
