1. Check out David Gilmour's second solo album About Face, Pino is all over it. If you want an idea of how Momentary Lapse Of Reason was going to turn out, this is a good primer. Spotify link https://open.spotify.com/album/1tqAPIpiTx3XCtqS4Mn1zj
2. And (miming here but what a line) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDVITRDhqmM
3.
What is the big fuss over Pino. Who is he?
Any excuse... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFgFFNXahcg
4.
Another vote for New Gold Dream but I'd also put in a suggestion for Sons and Fascination - it was the album before New Gold Dream and is very bass driven. The CD re-release also includes the mini album Sister Feelings Call which features A Theme for Great Cities, one of Simple Minds' best tracks.
+1 for all of that. Look out for the "Themes" compilations as well, they're all on Spotify for example. Vol 1 has live versions of League Of Nations and In Trance As Mission that are fantastic.
5. Seems like a good time to wheel these out again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FX0eJkGmYUw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZs_l9hF8IY
6. Hello and welcome from a few stops up the line into Waterloo
7. I'll have a ex-McCartney Marlin Slammer on eBay soon, from his rare "right hand" period.
8. New Gold Dream for sure. Then the 5x5 live album, pick your favourites and work through the early stuff according to preference. Sparkle In The Rain as well of course plus Once Upon A Time is about 50/50.
9. Helpful info in from the SM web shop, I emailed asking what mix you get on the re-released vinyl: "the vinyl is the same as CD1 from the box set. It’s a re-master of the original album – re-mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Andrew Walters and overseen by Charlie Burchill". So no SW mix apart from Disc 5 of the multi-pack.
10. '61 stack knob Jazz with only light retouching! http://www.ebay.com/...O-/391434650065 Just shy of £16k. "Get it in time for Father’s Day!" says eBay, optimistically.
11.
I got it on a blu-ray disc (features new 5.1 mix, new stereo mix and original stereo mix) for about £15 but I think you also get the same mixes if you buy the deluxe CD / DVD boxset (retails around £35- £40) but I don't think it's available on it's own on CD. There's also a New Gold Dream box set and blu-ray audio disc with new 5.1 and stereo mixes by Steven Wilson due for release in July although, to be honest, there's not a lot wrong with the original mix of that album.
Yep, I've seen the promo bumpf for the NGD box, looks good. Hopefully it'll end up on Spotify like the Sparkle box (well, 4 out of 5 discs anyway).
12. Is the Steven Wilson remix available as a standard stereo release on CD or vinyl?
13.
Looks like you need to do some sat sun swappage
I'm hoping they will cos I can't Still I've booked to see Stanley Clarke at the Jazz Caff anyway, and I'll be seeing Giuliana later in the year. Just need Esperanza to do a warm up gig somewhere in London and I'm sorted. What're your feelings on how it's already being billed as a "jazz funk and soul" festival rather than the "jazz festival" it started out being?
14. Gah, just listened to Emily's D+Evolution, it's really good. Still can't go
15. Good job. I hope they get a new carpet as well, I've not been the same since sitting on it for that Juan Alderete demo
16. What's in the previous Wunjo bass shop now by the way?
17.
Vordeman and Riley? I don't think it's called that any more.
Two from the top, the rest from the bottom please.
18.
** three if you include V&R.
V&R isn't there any more, it's quite helpfully called "No Tom Vintage & Classic Guitars", seriously. https://notomguitars.com/
19. This takes the sting out of not being able to see Mark Giuliana at Love Supreme in July (a bit)
20. ...and I've just received the "stage splits and timings" email as well!
21. Fans of Blackstar and Tim Lefebvre might be interested to know that Donny McCaslin and band - the team on Blackstar - are playing at this years Jazz Festival in November. http://www.efglondonjazzfestival.org.uk/events/info/donny-mccaslin
22. Thanks! Didn't look hard enough. But dammit all I want to see is on Saturday - and all in a row in the Big Top. What a line-up - Esperanza, S/M/G, Stanley Clarke.
23. I've not seen the day splits yet - where are you looking? The main website doesn't say (yet)
24. Like previous years, all the good stuff is happening in the side tents. Add Scofield/Mehldau/Giuliana to your list btw! I can only go on the Sunday this time around so I'm hoping all the good stuff happens then.
25. I quite liked the Georgian entry, especially the middle bit with the electronica/effects pedals bit. I wanted to see what he was using so put the youtube on full-screen and used the quarter-speed setting to see what was going on. Turns out he's playing through cakes, or possibly plasticine. Ffwd to about 2m07s for the close-up zoom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rviE2-9eiTI
