Teaching mainly and working hard when the work is available/bringing in money in the summer. Remote recording sessions, panto pit work and christmas functions. I also own a smallish PA (Yamaha Stage Pass) which is compact and self-contained. I rent it out for all the Christmas speeches, small church Christmas concerts and smaller weddings that my function band are too big/expensive for. Gives the punter the option to still have music playing and they get to choose. It pays as well as playing/DJing. Just turn up, plug in, leave for a few hours, come and pack up. Easy money I've actually set up the PA for an annual WI meeting before, gone to play a gig with the band across town and then picked the PA up on the way back. I also do workshops at my local music shop. The best is probably the 'Paint your own ukulele' before learning to play a few bits. Thats really popular and cheap idea to run and inexpensive for someone to buy as a fun Christmas gift

I recently bought an Ashdown little Giant 350 on here to use for lessons and home practice... I think it's alright for what I paid but ashdown are just a good budget amp and don't claim to be anything else. Does it sound close to my LMIII or TH500? Of course not. There's a considerable difference in quality but that's reflected in the cost and it serves a purpose at a good price which is enough for my need.
Geoff, you are the first person I have ever heard praising a EBO! The one I had was the biggest pile of cack I have ever played. I wish I knew you were looking for SS flats. I have a brand new set of Status ones you could have had.
Snap! Every EB0 I've ever played or heard has been dreadful... If you find a good one, its probably as rare as hens teeth and worth a fortune!

Can I just add that it's quite possible that these will be illegal copies that someone has scanned to pdf of the MTI scores which are available via licensed rent in hard copy form from MTI, who might not take too kindly to public sharing of their property. Be careful!
I'm one of the non-bass T-shirt-wearing minority, too... People buy me them, and they go straight to the back of the wardrobe. I should have a clear out, really.
I'm in that 'minority' too, although it seems that this thread has thrown up a few of us. Are we actually a minority?

Has anyone gone to the Leeds College of Music ?
skej21 replied to ML94's topic in General Discussion
I went to Leeds University but my bass tutor for the performance modules was a bass tutor from Leeds College of music so I got exactly what I wanted. The academic degree that would support my PGCE application but also got to network and study bass with the tutors and other bass students from LCM. Both worked out well and I had the luxury of playing with LCM students from pop and jazz courses on sessions etc and they were always nice gig experiences. Leeds is a great city to learn to be a musician. Lots of opportunities both in Leeds and to get into other (ie London) scenes through tutors and peers. Also quite central for travelling to Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, York, Newcastle and London, all of which I would head off to in the train for gigs quite regularly (and easily!). Go for it! It'll be fun -
Anyone know why DV seem to have stopped stocking Fender?
skej21 replied to Twigman's topic in General Discussion
So, it's been confirmed. As rumours suggested DV have gone into administration but have been bought out by 'a German retailer'... No prizes for guessing who that is then! -
Placed an order! 5 string single cut neck through swamp ash body, bubinga top mahagony back ebony fretboard with 26 frets 33 inch scale with 16.5 spacing matching pickup ramp cover OBP-3 preamp Gloss finish Cant wait for it!!!
I'll be keeping a close eye on this... Pretty much exactly what my next bass will be (with a few variations in woods!) From your spec, it sounds very nice

There's a latte difference between a little customs avoidance and Starbucks' grande, multimillion pound tax-dodging though... On that scale, it makes a mocha-ry out of the system. Sorry, I'll get my coat :s

Got hold of an Octamizer a couple of weeks ago on here and I love it. Tone is fantastic and once you get your head 'round the lower range tracking its a dream. Sounds great in the covers band in unison sections in 'Superstition' and 'Sir Duke'... Adds a bigger sound to the band and tone to my sound. Personally, I don't know what all the fuss is about with the OC2. I tried one and thought it was a perfect example of the mediocrity and middle-of-the-road quality of most Boss products. I'd take the Aggy any day... Those guys know how to make gear for bass!

Don't forget that Mr Mars also penned 'Forget You' by Cee-Lo Green which also has a killer bass line! The man know how to write a hit, that's for sure.

Yes, in the same way that a bus is a more than adequate form of transportation... But if the temptation for something more exciting is there, we'll always find justification for preferring it!

Basically, I'm seriously considering this bass but can't seem to find anyone who has one or has played one. I've had my hands on the SR1200 on a number of occasions and I really like it. The nordstrands are awesome and I generally like the aesthetics (although the gold hardware is just on the edge of acceptable for me but could always switch for black so I'm not worried about that). All in all, this looks like the perfect bass to add to my collection as a backup/reading bass. My main concerns are with the problems that might occur with the additional strings. Is the string spacing comfortable? I know it's quite close but is that manageable? Are the pickups as responsive across six strings and particularly the high C? If anyone has one or has played one, opinions would be more than helpful, positive or negative! Thanks in advance

Why buy an instrument you're not happy with and then try and shape it into something you do like? Just buy what you want in the first place!

Contacts for normal gigging and glasses for reading gigs. Can't read in contacts and low light as the small, fast eye movements make my contacts slip and/or go sticky. Really annoying and I find the same thing happens with gaming sometimes too.

Got a lovely tort 'plate from Bass Doc for my '75 RI Jazz and its stunning. As waterofthetyne mentioned, Howard uses some really nice material that he informed me is as close to the Pre-CBS tort material that you can get these days. Considering another one in black for the same bass so I can mix and match. Perfect fit and great quality/prices. Highly recommended!

5 and 6 strings make sight reading a lot easier. Less position shifts. Great for the lazy or as I call it 'economical' bass players
